Look To The Stars’ Richard Barker – nominated as Britain’s Most Inspiring Fundraiser and organizer of the Chefs for Heroes event – caught up with a group of celebrities with a cause last week and filed this special interview.

On Friday night I was fortunate enough to spend some time with the four beautiful women who make up the dazzling electric string quartet, Bond. I had asked them to donate a performance to “Chefs for Heroes”, a fundraiser for the British charity Help for Heroes. They graciously accepted my invitation and helped us to raise over one hundred thousand pounds. I cannot begin to thank them enough for making it an unforgettable event.

Bond has been described as the best selling string quartet of all time and consists of Tania Davis (violin), Eos Chater (violin), Elspeth Hanson (5-string violin/viola) and Gay-Yee Westerhoff (cello). They have sold over 4 million records. Their debut album Born was removed from the UK classical chart because it was criticized for sounding too much like pop music. Born would later rise the number one position on 21 different charts around the world. Shine, their second album, went gold in six countries. They have released a third CD, Classified, and are currently in the recording studio recording their new album.

I managed to interview the girls prior to their performance:

What made you decide to help us with Chefs for Heroes?

Gay-Yee: It is fantastic thing to be involved with. My father is in the RAF. He was really impressed when I told him about Chefs for Heroes.

Why is Help for Heroes important?

Gay-Yee: The money is going towards a terrific cause. We should never forget that we can always do more for these brave young men, returning home injured, some of them horrifically. We are honoured to be helping make people aware of this incredibly important charity.

Eos: I have been following our heroes on television. I’m really pleased that we can help. Those soldiers returning injured should never be forgotten. We are so happy to be contributing to the vital rehabilitation work – both physical and emotional – being undertaken at Headley Court [a hospital for injured soldiers].

Do you have any final comments?

Bond: We hope that everyone tonight enjoys our music – we are not only happy, but honoured, to be supporting Help for Heroes. Thank you for inviting us guys!

The girls’ performance was magnificent! At the end of night I became quite emotional. The girls took the time to meet some of the patients from Headley Court. The event was a tribute to these heroes. I’m really pleased that they enjoyed the performance and I’m delighted that we were able to give them a night to remember. This was definitely a highlight of my fundraising career.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank them for their support. I’d also like to thank their manager Terri Robson for helping me to make this possible.

Bob Barker Donates $3 Million To Fallen Heroes Fund

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF) announced today that with the help of American TV icon Bob Barker, it has reached its goal of $60 million to complete its current project, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), an advanced facility dedicated to research, diagnosis and treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI) suffered by U.S. military personnel.

The announcement comes after Mr. Barker, the long-time host of TV’s “The Price is Right” and a Naval aviator who served during World War II, pledged to personally contribute the final $3 million needed for the construction aspect of the project. Additional funds will be raised for research and other related items.

“I am very happy to do whatever I can to support the brave men and women who have given so much in service to our nation,” said Barker. “They have given so much for us; all Americans owe them a debt of gratitude for their tremendous service and sacrifice.”

The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund has been fundraising for this project since late 2007, and in recent months, the Fund has pulled to within $3 million of the goal. While it has reached the $60 million goal, the Fund is still working to raise additional funds for research and other related efforts for wounded troops.

“This amazing gift puts us over the top,” said Bill White, President of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. “Thousands of Americans have given to this important effort, and Bob Barker has today stepped up to the task. We are immensely grateful for his wonderful generosity and his support for our nation’s servicemen and women.”

“We have much more work to do to help our brave young men and women in uniform,” said Richard T. Santulli, Chairman of the Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund. “But reaching our goal for NICoE is a great step forward in our mission.”

NICoE, located in Bethesda, Maryland, adjacent to the new Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, will be the Department of Defense’s premiere facility for the study of TBI, which according to some estimates afflicts more than 300,000 veterans of the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Set to open next year, NICoE will be a 72,000 square foot, two-story facility. The Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund is building the Center and equipping it with the most advanced medical equipment for TBI research, diagnosis and treatment. Once complete, the Center will be turned over to the Department of Defense for operation.

I was recently honoured to be asked to attend a ‘Chefs for Heroes’ champagne and canapé reception. I felt inspired and enormously proud to be part of the project.

Paul Gayler read us a truly moving speech about his son. He felt compelled to help the British Armed Forces after his son Lee was shot in the leg whilst serving with the Territorial Army in Afghanistan. Having cooked for Royalty and pop icons such as Madonna, Mariah Carey and the late Michael Jackson, Paul’s team of the finest chefs will be serving up the most sumptuous menu (using only the finest and freshest ingredients) to London’s glitterati in a bid to raise £250,000 for Help for Heroes.

The funds raised will be channeled through "Help for Heroes, an independent charity that raises vitally needed funds to help support our wounded troops. Over the next year, the Charity’s aim is to provide seven “Hero Recovery Centres” at garrison towns across the UK. These Recovery Centres will provide a home for the wounded and a much needed breathing space while they re-skill and prepare for the next phase of their lives, be that in the military or on and out into a civilian future.

Celebrity Chef Gary Rhodes commented: “I think that the great thing about being a chef is living in one big family. Chefs for Heroes provides us with an opportunity to help members of that family. We are always happy to help men like Paul in their hour of need.”

John Mayer Trio To Play Gigs For Military Non-Profits

John Mayer fans take note! The Grammy Award winning musician is planning a concert fundraiser with his group the John Mayer Trio.

When it comes to the JM3, John isn’t the only big name. The other two members are bass player Pino Palladino – who has been a member of The Who and played for Paul Simon – and drummer and music producer Steve Jordan, who has played with such greats as Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen.

The event will happen in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve at the Hard Rock Cafe. The tickets will be sold online on the Consider It Dan website. The event has four ticket packages which range from a VIP meet and greet with John Mayer to early VIP entrance to the show. Tickets will be offered first to fans on John Mayer’s fan mailing list on Monday, September 21st at 10am, PDT, local Las Vegas time. You need a password for access! Tickets will be available to the general public on Saturday, September 26th at noon, PDT, local Las Vegas time.

If you’re not able to attend the New Years Eve event, John Mayer will have another concert in San Diego on December 29th at the Copley Symphony Hall. These two concert events will benefit two veteran’s charities: Military Outreach Ministry Camp Pendleton (MOM) and NCIRE – the Veterans Health Research Institute. These two non-profits seek to help members of the military, their families and veterans. The MOM is a nonprofit organization that exists to support young military families of all faiths. NCIRE is a self-funded private nonprofit research institute, established in 1988 to administer health research at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. They are the largest of the 85 nonprofit research institutes associated with the Department of Veterans Affairs nationwide.

Trace Adkins To Play Charity Gig For Wounded Warriors

On September 25 and 26, Wounded Warrior Project’s (WWP) Soldier Ride will visit Nashville, Tennessee. Soldier Ride, which debuted in 2004, is Wounded Warrior Project’s rehabilitative cycling program for wounded warriors.

The segmented rides raise public awareness for those that have been injured while fighting overseas. All participants are provided with the adaptive equipment they need to cycle regardless of their disabilities.

The festivities kick off on Friday, Sept. 25 at 7 p.m. with a “Southern Shindig” music event at the Loveless Barn (www.lovelessbarn.com). Country music superstar Trace Adkins will perform a special acoustic set. Mr. Adkins has previously donated proceeds from the downloads of his song “Til The Last Shot’s Fired” as part of a performance at this year’s Academy of Country Music Awards. Radio personality Bob Kingsley will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Tickets are available at www.southernshindig.org.

Other highlights include a performance by wounded warrior Sal Gonzalez, who was injured in Iraq in 2004 resulting in the amputation of his left leg. Tickets are on sale now and include dinner, beer and wine and entertainment. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

On Sat., Sept. 26, the ride will begin with an opening ceremony at Edwin Warner Park. Local residents can register online for this special bicycle ride through Nashville. Soldier Ride Nashville is being held in honor of Army Master Sergeant James “Tre” Ponder of Franklin, who was killed in action in Afghanistan on June 28, 2005.

Wounded warrior Heath Calhoun, who participated in the first ever Soldier Ride, then a coast to coast event, currently lives in Clarksville and is available for interviews.

“Soldier Ride was a life-changing experience for me,” said Calhoun, who lost both of his legs while fighting in Iraq. “The healing power involved with pushing your broken body to the limit is not easily put into words.”

Wounded Warrior Project also offers services and programs like careers and benefits counseling, advocacy initiatives and post-traumatic stress seminars to ensure that this is the most successful and well-adjusted generation of veterans in our nation’s history.

Actor Jon Huertas, who stars as Detective Javier Esposito on ABC’s “Castle”, recently spoke to Look To The Stars’ Linda St.Cyr about his support of the Wounded Warrior Project and Puppies Behind Bars, two charities he is passionate about.

Last month, Huertas attended a graduation ceremony at the Berthoud Community Center in Colorado for veterans who have completed an intensive two week training course with new service dogs.

Hi Jon, it’s great to hear from you. How was your trip to Colorado?

Hi Linda. It was great, thanks for asking. Getting to meet the vets who graduated with their puppies was an amazing experience.

I read that you were in the Air Force. How long did you serve?

I served 8 years in the Air Force and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I believe it is a rite of passage to becoming a man. In the military you are responsible for another person’s life and lots of very expensive equipment. The responsibility you are given makes you grow from a boy into a man.

Is your experience in the Air Force what led you to getting involved with the Wounded Warrior Project?

Yes and No. A friend of mine, Rudy Reyez from “Generation Kill”, got me involved with the Wounded Warrior Project. It is important for those suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome (PTSD) to know that there is help out there. The Wounded Warrior Project is dedicated to educating and providing programs and services for severely injured veterans between active duty and the transition to civilian life.

By being involved with both the Wounded Warrior Project and Puppies Behind Bars, I feel I am still connected to the military which helped shaped me into the man I am. It is my way of giving back.

Are there any other charities or causes that you support?

I’m pretty busy with shooting the next season of “Castle” so the only charities I really support are WWP and PBB but I did donate to some friends who are in a Triathlon on Sunday for the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

That counts! What would you like the public to know about WWP and PBB?

I really want to raise awareness for regular civilians to get involved and give back to the people who have served them in the military. These men and women have given their lives to protecting the freedom’s we have and this is a way for civilians to give back.

You have been on a lot of television shows including “Castle”, “Generation Kill”, “NCIS”, “CSI”, and “Without a Trace”. Is there one project that has been your favorite?

My favorite project to work on has been “Generation Kill”. The story is so important and it is based on real marine’s who led an assault on Baghdad in 2003.

“Generation Kill” has been nominated for some Emmy Award’s. How many?

It has been nominated for 11 Emmy Awards. It has been truly amazing working on the show. Credit goes to the writers of the show. Acting is easy when the story telling is good.

Since you are involved with Puppies Behind Bars, it leads me to believe, you love dogs. Do you have any pets?

I do. I have two Basenji dogs.

Are there any other projects you are working on?

“Castle” is keeping me busy but when the shoot is over I am planning on taking a three week course to get my pilot’s license.

Lisa Snowdon Completes Charity Parachute Jump

Model and TV and radio presenter Lisa Snowdon has completed her first parachute jump for charity – with the support of former boyfriend George Clooney.

Snowdon jumped from 13,000 feet to raise money for the Help A London Child scheme and the Shooting Star Hospice earlier this week. Last week, Look To The Stars revealed that George Clooney had donated $19,000 to the initiative.

“What a feeling,” said Snowdon. "When I got to the skydiving centre I was really nervous, it looked so high up. I don’t think I realized how high it was. My nerves were building when we went up in the plane and I felt really sick – it seemed to take forever to get up there. When we got up to 13,000ft the red light went on, then the yellow light which means it’s time to go and I freaked out.

“I had my legs dangling out of the plane and it felt so unnatural then suddenly we were out. We did this crazy back double somersault and I could see the bottom of the plane, it was the most surreal thing I’ve ever done. It happened so quickly I didn’t worry about the parachute. The freefalling was wild, it was just brilliant.”

Snowdon also took part in last week’s BGC Charity Day, which raised money for charities such as Barnardo’s, Breast Cancer Care, Help for Heroes and The Variety Club.

Celebrity Chefs Cook For an Army

An Army marches on its stomach they say, so it’s entirely appropriate that on the 2nd October, London’s top chefs will be cooking up a five-course feast to raise money for troops wounded in Afghanistan and Iraq.

The Chefs for Heroes gala dinner is being spearheaded by The Lanesborough’s chef de cuisine, Paul Gayler, and dished up by an ‘army’ of chefs from the City of London’s top restaurants including Andrew Bennett (Sheraton Park Lane), Gary Klaner (Landmark Hotel), Martyn Nail (Claridges), Paul Bates (Intercontinental, Hyde Park Corner), Simon Young (The Jumeirah Carlton Tower, Knightsbridge) and Matthew Marshall (Chamberlains Events).

They will be joined on the night by many of TV’s favourite chefs who will host a limited number of tables. Imagine exchanging recipes and pleasantries over dinner with Gordon Ramsay, Raymond Blanc or Heston Blumenthal – all of whom are on the guest list! Other celebrity guests include Graham Wellesley, Jeremy Clarkson and Andy McNab.

Radiohead Release Charity Song For Royal British Legion

British band Radiohead has released a song in tribute to a World War 1 soldier who died last week, with proceeds to go to charity.

Harry Patch (In Memory Of) was released yesterday, August 5, for download from the band’s online store. Harry Patch – who passed away on July 25 at age 111 – was the last known British World War I veteran.

The 5 and a half minute song costs £1 (US$1.70) to download, and proceeds will be donated to The Royal British Legion, which promotes the welfare of former military personnel and their dependants.

“The way he talked about war had a profound effect on me,” said Radiohead singer Thom Yorke. “It became the inspiration for a song that we happened to record a few weeks before his death. It was done live in an abbey. The strings were arranged by Jonny [Greenwood].”

Prince Charles Wears The Badge Of Heroes

Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, were out and about in Norfolk for charity earlier this week.

The pair attended the Sandringham Flower Show and were given wristbands and badges by Help for Heroes to wear. The badge is a new initiative created to be worn by police in England and Wales who were barred from wearing the wristband because of a strict dress policy.

Norfolk Chief Constable Ian McPherson said Charles was the first person in the country to receive the badge, which features the colors of the three armed forces and is designed for the use of police officers.

“The badges were developed by Norfolk Constabulary so that officers would have a smarter alternative to wearing the Help for Heroes wrist band,” he said. “The Prince said he was a huge supporter of Help for Heroes and was delighted we’d taken the initiative.”

Help For Heroes is a charity aimed at helping injured British service personnel returning from Iraq and Afghanistan.

Stars Sign Mini For British Forces Morale

A car signed by some of Britain’s favorite stars will go up for auction at Bonhams Auction House tonight, July 3, to raise money for the British Forces Foundation’s Lap of Honour charity, which aims to boost morale in Britiain’s Armed Forces.

For the last year, the Mini cooper – adorned with a Union Jack on the roof – has been traveling around Britain, gathering autographs from well-known faces such as Michael Caine, Richard Branson, Sienna Miller, Simon Cowell, Terry Wogan, Joan Collins, Roger Moore, Michael Parkinson, Cliff Richard, Ranulph Fiennes, Tom Jones, Hugh Grant, Judi Dench, James Blunt, Katherine Jenkins, Jackie Stewart, Rod Stewart, Lewis Hamilton, Kate Moss, Joe Calzaghe, Elton John, David Beckham, Magaret Thatcher, Eric Clapton, Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, Joanna Lumley, Helen Mirren, Gordon Brown, Paul McCartney and many more.

“This fantastic car has been on an amazing journey during our tenth anniversary year,” said Mark Cann, director of the BFF. “It will be a unique addition to any car collection and we’re delighted that Bonhams offered so generously to help us achieve the best bid and raise as much money as we can. Obituary: Ed McMahon's Charity Work

Comedian, game show host, announcer, and television personality Ed McMahon passed away last week, after a long illness.

Known for his work as Johnny Carson’s announcer on The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992, McMahon was also host of the talent show Star Search from 1983 to 1995 and co-host with Dick Clark of TV’s Bloopers and Practical Jokes from 1982 to 1986. He was also well-known for hosting Jerry Lewis’ annual Labor Day Telethon for Muscular Dystrophy.

Although he suffered from ill health in his later years, McMahon still found time to carry out charity work. He was honored by the Kayne Eras Center for his work with children and education, and also attended the The California Disabled Veteran Business Alliance’s Annual Salute to Veterans Day Breakfast last year. McMahon also hosted charity golf tournaments over the years.

Stephen Colbert Broadcasts From Iraq

Stephen Colbert is broadcasting “The Colbert Report” from Iraq this week to support an initiative with DonorsChoose.org, the online charity that connects individual donors nationwide to classrooms in need.

Colbert is taping four episodes of “The Colbert Report” in Baghdad. According to the New York Times, “It’s the first time in the history of the [”U.S.O.“:http://www.looktothestars.org/charity/227-united-service-organization] that a full-length non-news show has been filmed, edited and broadcast from a combat zone.”

Colbert is a long-time supporter of DonorsChoose.org and the USO. Last month he donated his birthday to address the scarcity and inequitable distribution of learning materials and experiences in public schools, and all iTunes downloads of the Iraq shows will go to the USO.

The “Support Our Troops by Supporting Their Children” campaign calls on everyday citizens to donate to classroom projects, which include anything from basic school supplies to field trips, submitted by teachers at high-need, military-serving public schools. “Support Our Troops” fuels a fun competition between the five branches of the Armed Forces – Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy and Coast Guard – to see which branch’s supporters can have the biggest impact on classrooms. Celebrity-Led Fundraising Campaign Supports Charities In Their Hour Of Need

Toby Keith To Visit Troops In Afghanistan

Country singer Toby Keith has pulled out of a new movie so he can visit U.S. troops posted in Afghanistan.

Keith is a long-time supporter of the USO, and also helped set up Ally’s House, a nonprofit organization that helps families dealing with childhood cancer. Every year he holds a golf tournament that raises hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity.

His dedication to charities such as the USO has earned him the honor of being awarded the Distinguished Service Award from the Military Officers Association of America. He picked up the honor on 21 April in Washington, D.C. The award recognizes civilians who give back to military personnel. He will also take part in a 17-show USO/Armed Forces Entertainment tour at the end of April, meaning he has had to pull out of the upcoming film, Provinces of Night.

“There aren’t enough words to describe just how grateful I am to our nation’s troops,” he said. “I’ve participated in several USO tours over the years, and I’ve seen firsthand their sacrifice. And I will not stop doing all I can to show my support and lift their spirits.”

Renee Zellweger Attends USO Awards Gala

Actress Renee Zellweger was on hand at the annual USO of Metropolitan Washington’s award dinner on Wednesday, March 25, to honor Al Franken for 10 years of service entertaining troops overseas.

The 27th annual awards dinner was held at the Ritz Carlton Hotel, with 34 of the 98 living Medal of Honor recipients in attendance.

“I love this event,” said Zellweger. “It is so special to have been invited here tonight to dine in honor of our military and in celebrating the work that the USO of Metropolitan Washington does. I’ve met a lot of true heroes through the USO. The hardest road the soldiers walk is the one he or she faces after the battle is over. It’s inspiring, but it’s extraordinarily moving. I have to say, it’s tremendously humbling.”

Franken also gave thanks to the troops and recalled some of the experiences that he has had during his time with the USO.

“Some of the troops knew I’d been a critic of the way we’d gotten into the war, and the way we were doing the war,” he said. “But in a way, they didn’t care. It just told them that everybody in the States supported them. It didn’t matter what your politics were. What you learn, of course, is that they cheer you up, and that you leave with more than what you came with.”

Also in attendance at the event were professional wrestler Mick Foley, actress and model Leann Tweeden, Miss American 2009 Katie Stam and several National Football League former players.

Look To The Stars’ Delinda Lombado recently got the chance to talk to the CEO of Hollywood Knights International, whose celebrity basketball team is a leader in charity fundraising.

Back in 1973, David Mirisch was way ahead of the curve. As founder of Hollywood Knights International, he is credited with being the first (or at least most important) person to pair celebrities with fundraising, producing some of the first consecutive tennis and golf charity tournaments in Hollywood.

Now headed by David’s son Michael (who took the reins as CEO in 1992), Hollywood Knights International are still going strong and its Celebrity Basketball Team has become a symbol for fundraising world-wide.

Hollywood Knights International’s CEO, Michael Mirisch, along with HKI’s Director of Marketing/PR, Vicky Mirisch, were kind enough to speak to us about their USO Tour and what drives them to produce some remarkable events.

First of all, tell us more about the USO Tour?

“Our second USO tour takes place in Hawaii and consists of basketball games of celebrity players versus our US troops and will be held on Army, Air Force, and Marines bases. The games are high energy, fun antics, lots of fan interaction on the court, and of course some healthy competition between the players. There will also be autograph signings during halftime and lots of pictures taken with fans and celebrities,” explained Vicky.

I know most of your events are open to the public, is this also the case with the USO Tour?

“Unfortunately, the games are not open to the public; only military personnel and their families.”

What is the most rewarding aspect of being part of this organization?

“That’s an easy question. Raising money to help people all over the world through events that incorporate celebrities, fun, and giving back to the community. There is a feeling of incredible satisfaction after every event we produce because we know at the end of the day countless lives are going to change for the better. There is that quote from Emerson that states: “to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived, that is to have succeeded.” This quote hangs in our office and we read it every single day. It really sums it all up for us."

Have you seen an increase in awareness about ‘charity’ from the celebrities involved?

“The majority of the celebrities with whom we work are charitable people in general, and want to give back to the community. It’s not something you can fake,” said Michael. “Most of our events are not paid personal appearances where the stars receive a fee, so when you see a celebrity at a Hollywood Knights event, they are lending their name to the cause itself. We are so grateful to the countless celebrities that have year after year taken the time out of their busy schedules to support our events and the charities that are involved.”

Is there any celebrity in particular that has gone above-and-beyond to lend their name and time to the Hollywood Knights International?

“The truth is, it’s impossible to just name one celebrity,” Vicky told us. "But there are several people who, over the years, have contributed so much to our programs: Josh Henderson and Wesley Jonathan, The Miz, Adrian R’Mante, Brutha, Bryan Datillo, Thad Luckingbill.

Michael: What was it like to take over as CEO? Growing up with such an incredible role model (David of course) must have been an amazing experience?

“My father is an icon and pioneer in the celebrity fundraising business. He pretty much invented this genre and at 73, he’s still producing events. He is an incredible role model and it’s been a blessing and my good fortune to have him as a father first and foremost, and also a business mentor. He continues to inspire me every single day. I became CEO when I officially took the basketball team under my wing and infused it with young talent that packed the gyms out with screaming fans.”

What was the public reaction like when HKI first started producing events? Was it embraced by Hollywood?

“It was a new concept, but it was definitely embraced. The fact that we’re still here and thriving is a testament to that!”

What was the driving force behind David establishing HKI? It seems that no one else was doing this in the 70’s, so what ignited the spark?

“Back in the early 1970’s, David was a very successful publicist with clients such as Merv Griffin, Omar Sharif, Johnny Mathis, [”Pat Boone":http://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/548-pat-boone], Lindsay Wagner, Raquel Welch, The Supremes and Perry Como. He was representing Tony Trabert, the tennis champion and also representing Murietta Hot Springs in Palm Springs. He decided to put the two together and create a celebrity tennis tournament. A few other events were added and the outcome was a successful event that he really enjoyed producing – and the public enjoyed attending. He realized that this was a niche business that he could launch and he’s been doing it ever since!"

If HKI could eradicate one ‘thing’ (hunger, poverty, cancer, homelessness) from the face of the Earth, what would it be?

“Delinda, great question but tough to answer! But HKI seems to gravitate towards causes that help children in need. So many kids are suffering in the world. We also find that celebrities gravitate and involve themselves more when they can lend their names to children’s causes as well. "

In your opinion, do celebrities make better golfers, ballers or soccer players?

“There are so many amazing celebrity golfers, then basketball players, then poker players. The other sports are more for show and fun than skill!”

Who is the best Hollywood Knight Int. celebrity basketball player? Soccer player?

“Basketball player is a tie between Cylk Cozart and Nana Gbewonyo. Golfer is hands down Jack Wagner.”

Craziest stunt one of your ‘celebrities’ has pulled in efforts to raise awareness?

“Wolf from American Gladiators actually climbed up the basketball backboards and caught the balls as they were going in the baskets and slammed dunked them in! At first we were all worried if the backboards would collapse; Wolf is a built like a body builder. But the fans went crazy and it was just the funniest thing to watch. "

Any thoughts, ideas or quotes regarding what we all can do in terms of making this world a better place?

“Try to live your life without being selfish. Focus on the positive, because there’s no benefit to focusing on the negative. Smile at people and show kindness, even if you have to fake it, over time it will feel natural. Most importantly, learn to love yourself first, faults and all, so that you can honestly and sincerely show love to everyone that matters to you.”

Trace Adkins To Perform For Wounded Warriors

Country singer Trace Adkins is planning a special performance in honor of wounded U.S. troops at the upcoming Academy of Country Music Awards show in April.

The singer will perform “Til the Last Shot’s Fired” with the West Point Glee Club in support of the Wounded Warrior Project on April 5 in recognition of the Academy’s re-branded charitable fund, ACM Lifting Lives.

“It’s a privilege to perform this song with such a distinguished choir for the great servicemen and women in whose honor it was written,” said Adkins. “We should always let our military know how much we appreciate them putting their lives on the line for us every day.”

The song also appears on Adkins’ newest album, X, and profits from digital downloads of the song on iTunes will benefit the WWP.

“The WWP provides an incredible service to those wounded in combat, so it’s an honor to donate proceeds of the performance downloads to support this important and worthy charity,” he said.

The ACMs will be held in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 5 at 8 p.m. and broadcast live eastern/delayed Pacific on CBS.

“The Academy of Country Music has changed the name of its charity to encompass all existing charitable giving and not just the charitable fund, which is our grant-giving program,” said Dennis Lord, chairman of the board for Lifting Lives. “We also wanted a name that explains our focus, namely, lifting people up through the power of music. Lifting Lives is a powerful, alliterative way of communicating our mission, and it speaks of our audacious plans for the future.”

James Reynolds Leads Veterans Program

Daytime actor and Emmy nominee James Reynolds is chairman of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) 2009 National Salute to Hospitalized Veterans.

Reynolds, best known for his long- running performance as police officer Abe Carver on the popular “Day’s of Our Lives”, led VA’s annual patient recognition program that invited the public to visit and honor hospitalized veterans during National Salute Week, Feb. 8-14. He serves as the national spokesperson for more than 131,000 volunteers serving veterans at VA facilities across the nation.

Reynolds was born and raised in the small farming community of Oskaloosa, Kan. During high school, he performed in many school plays and played football, basketball and track.

Following graduation, he joined the Marines and was assigned to an information service office in Hawaii as a reporter. He was sent to Vietnam and served for almost a year with a variety of units in and around Chu Lai, adding battlefield reporting to his combat duties. A wound ended his military service.

Reynolds enrolled in Topeka’s Washburn University, majoring in pre-law and journalism. Advised that the best place on campus to meet girls was the theatre department, he began auditioning and performing in plays – discovering a passion for acting. He used his journalism background to land jobs with newspapers such as the Topeka Daily Capitol and the Colorado Springs Sun where he wrote about theatre, film and music. That allowed him to report on his passion while pursuing acting as a career.

In 1974, he landed his first television commercial and a featured role in “Mr. Majestyk,” with Charles Bronson. He moved to Los Angeles, amassed an impressive list of prime-time television and motion picture credits, and became one of the foundation blocks of “Days of our Lives.” He has logged more hours on television than any other African- American actor in the U.S. – averaging over a 100 hours of airtime each year for 25 consecutive years.

Reynolds received an Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Carver, as well as NAACP Image Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series. He was also nominated for an NAACP Theatre Award for his work in the theatrical production “Buffalo Soldier.”

Reynolds is deeply committed to charitable works such as the Ronald McDonald House Charities and touring with the USO. He has been to Cuba, the Mediterranean, Kuwait and Afghanistan to meet and show support for troops overseas. In 2007, Reynolds was honored by the Beverly Hills/ Hollywood NAACP Veteran Affairs and Armed Services Committee for his contributions to the Unites States Armed Forces.

Daniel Craig Donates Bond Items To Charity Auction

James Bond star Daniel Craig has donated signed Bond memorabilia to a charity auction designed to raise funds for servicemen and women injured in action.

The auction will take place on February 7 at St John Fisher Catholic School in Harrogate, England, with all proceeds going to Help for Heroes to aid forgotten soldiers injured on active service.

As well as Craig’s items, the auction will also feature unique lots such as a VIP race day at the York Races as well as a three course meal and champagne from Skybet, and a part from a Formula 1 Williams racing car signed by F1 drivers Nico Roseberg and Kazuki Nakajima. There are also concert tickets to see Lemar at Sheffield City Hall, a £200 Azendi jewelry voucher, a print from Yorkshire artist Neil Simone and a stay in Harrogate’s White Hart Hotel.

Tom Arnold Joins Love Our Children USA

Tom Arnold is certainly no stranger to charity work, and he now adds another organization to the many non-profits he supports.

Arnold recently joined the Board of Governors for Love Our Children USA, the leading national charity that honors and respects children.

Established over 10 years ago, the goals of the organization are prevention, keeping children safe and strengthening families. Its message is positive and filled with hope. Love Our Children USA has become the go-to prevention organization for all forms of violence and neglect against children in the U.S.

Among the other charities Arnold supports are the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis, Operation Homefront, After School All Stars, and Comic Relief. He also provides two full scholarships every year to students attending Indian Hills Community College and established the First Chance Scholarship Program with the University of Phoenix.

Kellie Pickler Blogs About USO Tour

Country music star Kellie Pickler has just returned from a tour with the United Service Organization and has blogged about the experience – which she describes as "the most incredible thing I have ever done in my life – on her MySpace page.

“I don’t think I have ever flown this much in my life,” she wrote. “Monday we flew to Washington where we joined Admiral Mike Mullen (chairman of the joint chief of staff) to board our flight on a C-32 to Germany. That is where we kicked off our first show. I still can’t believe that in a matter of 6 days we flew to Germany, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kosovo, and England. The shows did not start until we landed on Tuesday and if I remember correctly we did 9 shows in 5 days!!!! I guess I am still on auto pilot, not sure why I am even up right now as I just got in from England late last night. lol. I don’t think this trip has really sunk in yet so it might take me a while to absorb everything.”

The singer first became involved with the USO in late 2007 when she participated in performances for troops stationed in Iraq.

“THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU to the men and women serving our country. I will never take what you do for granted. God Bless You and God Bless the USA!”
