Ted Danson – a board member of Oceana – has blogged about the charity’s current campaign to stop offshore drilling in the wake of the Gulf oil spill.

“While images of oiled wildlife and beaches hit us in the gut — and are part of the reason I got involved in ocean conservation decades ago — there’s another reason why it’s time to stop drilling for oil in our oceans,” wrote the actor/activist in the Huffington Post. "It might not have a face or feathers, but it’s just as important.

“The reason is this: The stubborn push to continue drilling not only fouls our oceans and contributes to climate change, it weakens our ability to join the emerging market for clean energy — specifically offshore wind.

Oceana has announced that it will hold its inaugural Hamptons “Splash” Party on July 10, 2010 at the Water Mill, N.Y. home of Lois Robbins and Andrew Zaro.

The mid-summer event marks Oceana’s debut into the Hamptons community for an annual celebration of ocean conservation.

“Seventy-one percent of the planet is covered by the ocean, and it’s at a tipping point right now,” said Oceana board member Ted Danson. “The good news is that we still have a chance to turn the tide, and that is the message we want to communicate to our guests in the Hamptons.”

Arianna Huffington is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, a nationally syndicated columnist, and author of 12 books. Dr. Deepak Chopra is the Founder of Chopra Center for Wellbeing in Carlsbad, California and Manhattan, New York. He is also the author of many best-selling books.

Law & Order’s Sam Waterston has penned an article for CNN.com on the issue of ocean conservation.

The actor is a member of the board of directors of Oceana, a nonprofit organization that seeks to protect the world’s oceans by opposing overfishing and pollution, and has been honored several times for his conservation work.

“For 800,000 years, the seas were a stable solution, a hospitable solution for all sorts of creatures to live in, and a generous solution to all sorts of human problems, from food supply to waste disposal,” wrote the veteran actor. "We must not make them inhospitable, for people or for the 80 percent of life on the planet that lives in them.

Bill Clinton, Sting, and Trudie Styler will be honored at the annual Oceana Partners Awards this weekend.

Chaired by Sam Waterston and Ted Danson and hosted by Pierce Brosnan, Ron Howard, and Robert Redford, the event honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions through their personal commitment to the cause of protecting and conserving the environment. Past honorees include Ted Turner, Don Henley, James Cameron, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, and Christopher Reeve. Past hosts have included Salma Hayek, Nicolas Cage, Nicole Kidman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ron Meyer and Jamie Lee Curtis.

Bill Clinton has been selected as this year’s recipient because his Clinton Climate Initiative – launched in 2006 – works with over 40 of the world’s largest cities to reduce greenhouse emissions. The actors generously donated their time and talent to record radio public service ads for the nonprofit National Parks Conservation Association. The ads, launched in late August, encourage the public to sign a petition to the next president and Congress, seeking their support for national parks.

In previous years, celebrities Morgan Freeman, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Jerry Seinfeld, Richard Dreyfuss, Walter Cronkite, and Cristina Saralegui have recorded public service announcements for the organization’s efforts to protect national parks.
