Positive Lives Achieved Through Education and Sports (P.L.A.T.E.S.) is hosting its 1st annual celebrity charity golf classic to raise funds for the revitalization and building of parks, sports complexes and community centers for the betterment of our youth.

Entertainers from sports, music, film and television have answered the call and are ready to hit a hole in one to solve the problem. Industry Hills Golf Club at Pacific Palms will provide a pristine backdrop for the golf classic taking place August 12, 2011. In addition to 18 lavish holes of golf, the all-day event will have multiple contests including a hole in one contest, a putting contest, and more. The day will also include a cocktail networking hour and VIP awards dinner honoring event participants and honorary recipients.

With problems like obesity besieging the youth at an alarming rate, it’s important to have safe environments for young people to be active and participate in sports, while learning the discipline and confidence gained by being athletic. The P.L.A.T.E.S. Foundation is dedicated to that sole purpose. They promote healthy, athletic activities and help to provide positive learning environments that will enhance the intellectual, cultural and educational needs of our youth and communities.

The Gentle Barn tees off for its Second Annual Golf Tournament on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Robinson Ranch Golf Course, the beautiful Valley Course in Santa Clarita.

The event kicks off with a photo op with special guests, Holy and Madonna, the rescued cows named and adopted by Ellen and Portia DeGeneres, followed by a shotgun start at 12:00 noon. A gourmet dinner and awards ceremony will follow with lots of amazing raffle prizes and auction items, allowing players to mingle with celebrities at this star studded event. America Ferrera To Speak Out Against Dropout Epidemic

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), in partnership with America’s Promise Alliance, and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, announced today it has added three new speakers who will help launch a significant new initiative to combat the dropout epidemic in the United States on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at 10:15 a.m. ET live on Facebook.

The speakers – Emmy-award winning actress America Ferrera of Ugly Betty, actor from the hit drama series CSI:NY Hill Harper, and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller – will discuss the role communities play in boosting graduation rates. Aimee Garcia will also take part.

The program will build on public broadcasting’s long-standing commitment to education by convening conversations and strengthening partnerships between public radio and television stations and local schools, businesses, and community organizations – all with the goal of helping students stay on course to graduate from high school.

A bunch of celebrities will join 15,000 cancer charity supporters in pulling on their running shoes and joining the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Race For The Cure event at Dodger Stadium, LA, next week.

Celebrities Support AIDS Fight At Oscar Night Event

Elton John’s bash was not the only one to raise money for AIDS on Oscar Night. The Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science held a function at the historic union station in downtown Los Angeles. Community leaders, actors, filmmakers and members of the fashion community traditionally show their support by attending the annual Oscar night fundraiser.
