Red Cross Announces New Stars For National Celebrity Cabinet

Five celebrities join the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, a group of celebrity supporters who promote Red Cross services by donating their time, helping neighbors prepare for emergencies, responding to disasters and lending a helping hand to those in need – down the street, across the country and around the world.

New members include talk show host and designer Nate Berkus, Emmy and Tony award winning performer Kristin Chenoweth, Latin star and multiple award winner Rogelio Martinez, award-winning country artist Darius Rucker, and Christian/Pop recording artist, Michael W. Smith.

With the addition of the five new members, the Red Cross now has 40 members on its National Celebrity Cabinet. This group of newcomers joins the National Celebrity Cabinet that also includes Josh Duhamel, Alyssa Milano, Greg Biffle, Pierce Brosnan, Jim Cantore, Jackie Chan, Chayanne, Jamie Lee Curtis, Miley Cyrus, Sara Evans, George Foreman, Leeza Gibbons, Amy Grant, Pat Green, Marcia Gay Harden, Patricia Heaton, Julianne Hough, Dwayne Johnson, Heidi Klum, Patti LaBelle, Demi Lovato, Eli and Peyton Manning, Marlee Matlin, Dr. Phil McGraw, Nancy O’Dell, Masi Oka, Rascal Flatts, Amanda Peet, Sally Pressman, Elisabeth Rohm, Anika Noni Rose, Jane Seymour, Jimmy Smits, Raven Symone and Daddy Yankee.

Former Everybody Loves Raymond star Patricia Heaton will donate $1 to charity for every person that follows Reece’s Rainbow on Twitter, up to $10,000.

“I know there can be big pitfalls to social media, but I will be forever grateful to the tweeter who alerted me to the work of Reece’s Rainbow,” said the star, currently seen in sitcom The Middle. “I clicked on a link to see the faces of those little neglected angels who have passed on, and immediately started weeping. It was so heartbreaking. Sometimes we feel helpless in the face of such horror, but because of the example of Andrea Roberts, we see that, with a lot of hard work and perseverance, there is something we can do.”

Reece’s Rainbow was established in 2004 by Andrea Roberts, a mother of a young boy with Down Syndrome, as an outreach program serving new families with babies with Down syndrome at Northside Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Everybody Loves Raymond For Charity

Patricia Heaton and Ray Romano, both of “Everybody Loves Raymond” fame, lent their comic talents to support the 9th Annual Comedy for a Cure fundraiser yesterday.

The event took place on Sunday, April 11th in Hollywood at Boulevard3. Patricia Heaton hosted the fundraiser, and Ray Romano headlined an ensemble of comedians including stand-up comics Jeff Allen and Mike Polk. Other celebrities included Larry Miller, Buzz Aldrin, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Vincent Gallo, Melina Kanakaredes, Tim Daly, Leeza Gibbons and many others. In addition to the comedy performances, there were receptions, a silent auction and a live auction.

Comedy for a Cure raises funds to benefit the Tuberous Sclerosis Alliance and families affected by tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC), and has raised over $2.5 million for research, programs and services. TSC is a genetic disorder that causes potentially fatal tumors to form on a child’s vital organs. TSC affects one in 6,000 children and is the leading genetic cause of epilepsy and autism.

The American Red Cross has announced eight new members to its National Celebrity Cabinet, a group of celebrity supporters who promote Red Cross services by donating their time, helping neighbors prepare for emergencies, responding to disasters and lending a helping hand to those in need – down the street, across the country and around the world.

New members include actor Penn Badgley, who is best known as Dan Humphrey on the television series Gossip Girl, Giselle Blondet, a Puerto Rican who has long established herself as one of Spanish-language television’s most distinguished and popular on-air personalities, actor Josh Duhamel, who appeared in the hit movie Transformers, country music superstar Wynonna Judd, actor and hip hop music icon, LL Cool J, award winning actress and country music superstar Reba McEntire, actress and humanitarian Alyssa Milano, and actor, comedian and television personality David Spade. With the addition of the eight new members, the Red Cross now has more than 40 members on its National Celebrity Cabinet.

Celebrity Gift Lounge Aims To Feed LA

As Hollywood gets ready for the 22nd Annual Kids’ Choice Award this week, Melanie Segal’s Celebrity Lounge is where celebrities are celebrating before the show.

Located in the world famous Magic Castle in Hollywood and the brain child of Platinum Publicity’s Melanie Segal, the lounge invites celebrities to enter a lounge where they will receive the latest in gifting while helping out a great cause. For every celebrity guest that attends the lounge, Stouffer’s is donating 1,000 meals to LA’s needy. They are planning to “Feed LA for the Day” by donating funds to pay for approximately 70,000 meals. Feeding America and the LA Food Bank will be on hand at the event. Celebrities will also be asked to autograph an arcade-game from Dream Arcades, which will be auctioned off for charity.

“This is a great time for people to escape from the worries of the economic climate and enjoy themselves!” says owner of Platinum Publicity, Melanie Segal. “We’ve been hearing so much negativity in the news lately — it’s nice to just forget about all of that, be a kid again, receive some fun gifts, and give back to society at the same time! Ben Affleck Shows Gratitude For The Troops

Ben Affleck and Patricia Heaton were on hand at the California National Guard Armory on Sunday, December 14, as part of Operation Gratitude.

The pair joined thousands of volunteers as they helped put together over 100,000 care packages for troops stationed overseas.

Operation Gratitude started out as a small operation but has now become one of the largest military support organizations in the world, with over 400,000 care packages delivered to troops deployed in combat zones. Each package costs $10 to prepare and ship, and contains food, toiletries, entertainment items and personal letters of appreciation.

Comedy Celebration To Raise Money For Myeloma Research

Ray Romano is set to host the International Myeloma Foundation’s second annual Comedy Celebration tomorrow night, November 15.

The event will kick off at 6pm at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre and Club on South Lucerne Boulevard with a cocktail reception and silent auction, with the comedy show starting at 8pm. The evening promises to deliver hilarious performances from Patricia Heaton, Jeff Garlin, Kevin James, Robert Klein, Doris Roberts, and Fred Willard, and will also feature the original one-and-only Blues Brothers – AKA Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi.

Proceeds from the evening will go to the Peter Boyle Memorial Fund at the International Myeloma Foundation, dedicated to fighting the deadly cancer of the bone marrow for which there is currently no known cure.

The American Red Cross unveiled their 7th annual National Celebrity Cabinet yesterday, February 28, with 15 new members from movies, sports, and television.

Skateboard legend Tony Hawk will join former Beverly Hills 90210 and Dancing With The Stars alum Jennie Garth, Heroes’ Masi Oka, Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley, House M.D.’s Lisa Edelstein and Kal Penn, Ugly Betty’s Ana Ortiz, Grey’s Anatomy’s Sara Ramirez, Scrubs’ Judy Reyes, Everyone Loves Raymond’s Patricia Heaton, Hairspray’s Brittany Snow, two-time NASCAR champion Greg Biffle, New York Yankee Robinson Cano, NFL star Matt Leinart, and Life Coach Iyanla Vanzant in the 2008 Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, part of a mobilizing force to urge people to perform extraordinary life-saving acts in dire circumstances through the assistance of the Red Cross.
