Nashville Stars Donate Clothes To Animal Charity

Nashville has a new star by the name of Lori Elam, a remarkable woman inspired by the loss of her pets to open a new consignment shop that sells clothing donated by country music artists and celebrities in efforts to raise money for animal rescue efforts.

“When I lost those two [pets], I met this world of people who are out there saving animals. They educated me on how animals were being treated and being euthanized, and it was a whole other culture that I was not aware of,” Elam told the Tennessean.

Elam’s celebrity consignment shop Estrella will open in May on 12South Avenue.

The 21st annual American Century Championship golf tournament took place over the weekend in Nevada, in honor of Lance Armstrong.

For an incredible athlete who was diagnosed with testicular cancer, with a tumor that had metastasized to his lungs, this charity golf tournament benefited the Lance Armstrong Cancer Foundation and several local and national cancer institutes.

Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Jerry Rice, Taylor Hicks, Troy Aikmen, Don Cheadle and Mario Lemieux were among the 80 sports and entertainment celebrities and hall of famers who competed this weekend.

Rascal Flatts and The Jason Foundation are working together on a new program to prevent youth suicide.

In addition to their roles as Celebrity Ambassadors and participation in public services announcements, public awareness programs, and fundraising, Rascal Flatts will promote the newly created B1 Project. The purpose of the B1 Project is to educate youth and students on recognizing the warning signs of youth suicide and how to help a friend.

The Jason Foundation, Inc. (JFI) is an educational organization dedicated to the awareness and prevention of youth suicide. Celebrity Country Music Auction Raises Charity Cash

A host of country music’s hottest stars joined Martina McBride for her annual YWCA charity auction in Nashville last weekend.

The event, part of the CMA Music Festival – raised $102,000 to help eliminate domestic violence, and featured a range of items donated by stars such as Keith Urban (whose signed DVD and meet-and-greet package raised $3,800), Brad Paisley, Dolly Parton, Rascal Flatts and many more. Martina’s framed lyrics for her song She’s A Butterfly raised $22,000.

“It is Martina’s genuine support and the devotion of her fans that help make the auction so successful each year,” said Pat Shea, CEO of the YWCA. “It is so amazing to me that Martina has helped us raise over $100,000 in a few hours. Those dollars will help the YWCA help women and children who need counseling, medical care, support and emergency shelter as they flee violent homes. We are very grateful to Martina.”

The Academy of Country Music has announced a $1 million endowment to ACM Lifting Lives, made on behalf of the artists who participated in the taping of ACM Presents: Brooks & Dunn – The Last Rodeo in Las Vegas in May.

Ticket proceeds from the taping went to ACM Lifting Lives, which in turn quickly earmarked funding for those affected by the recent floods in Middle Tennessee. The gift successfully completes a three-year funding commitment and fundraising campaign the Academy initiated in 2008.

Honorees Brooks & Dunn along with Jason Aldean, Kenny Chesney, Faith Hill, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Antebellum, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Darius Rucker, George Strait, Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban all participated in the taping, with more than 10 million viewers tuning in to the special on CBS on May 23.

A huge number of stars and famous faces will hit the golf course in next month as part of the BMW Charity Pro-Am tournament.

The 2010 BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation will be played Thursday, May 13 through Sunday, May 16 at South Carolina’s Bright’s Creek Golf Club, The Carolina Country Club and Thornblade Club. Among the 28 celebrities confirmed to tee off are former Eagles guitarist Don Felder, Catherine Bell, Samuel L. Jackson, Dr. Phil McGraw, Dennis Quaid, Rascal Flatts guitarist Joe Don Rooney, Kurt Russell, Kevin Sorbo, Luke Wilson and many others.

The BMW Charity Pro-Am is the only tournament on the Nationwide Tour where amateurs and celebrities are grouped with Nationwide Tour professionals in a four-day better-ball competition over three courses. Amateurs, celebrities and pros rotate between three courses on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the 14 lowest scoring pro-amateur/pro-celebrity teams advancing to play Sunday’s final round at Thornblade Club. Country Stars Set To Rock Charity Rodeo

A range of bands and performers will be performing at this year’s Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo to raise money for charity.
