On January 16th, MLK Day of Service 2012, millions will come together to honor Dr. King’s legacy through service. Miley Cyrus and her friends at Youth Service America have 10 ways to Get Ur Good On for MLK Day, and throughout January. Get started!

Create a service-focused New Year’s resolution to honor Dr. King’s commitment to serving others. Volunteer at least once a month, sponsor a kid in a developing nation, host a coat drive, or tutor at an after school program. Write the resolution on a piece of paper and post it somewhere visible to see everyday.

DoSomething.org Announces Top 20 Celebs Gone Good 2011

DoSomething.org, one of the largest U.S. organizations that helps teens take action on causes they care about, released today its fourth annual ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ list.

Lady Gaga continues her reign as the star who uses her celebrity to do the most good. Known for her support of gay rights, AIDS, and poverty, she focused primarily this year on bullying, even taking her thoughts to the White House in December. She also announced the creation of her own charity, the Born This Way Foundation, which aims to empower youth and lead them to a brave new society where each individual is accepted and loved as the person they were born to be.

Making a meteoric rise to number two this year is Justin Bieber, up from number 10 last year. His fast rise is due to his prolific work with Pencils of Promise, an organization that builds schools in Laos and Guatemala. Justin is also a consistent supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, raised funds for charity with his fragrance and holiday album, and recently distributed $100,000 to Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas.

Kim Kardashian has blogged about a very special charity event taking place in March 2012.

“This year I was diagnosed with psoriasis, a hereditary, genetic, autoimmune disease that effects over 125 million people around the world and currently has no cure,” she wrote on her official blog. "On March 4 2012 it will be the sixth annual Walk To Cure Psoriasis and I hope you guys will join me in helping raise funds and awareness for the event. Over the last five years they have raised almost 1.5 million dollars to help research for a cure and there are now 22 walks across the country! They also started the first ever DNA BioBank, which is used by researchers across the country and the money from the walk goes directly to this.

Two iconic forces that have impacted the past 50 years – the life-saving human rights activism of Nobel Peace Prize-winning Amnesty International and the incomparable artistry of Bob Dylan – are being saluted by 80 musicians who contributed new or previously unreleased recordings to Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan Honoring 50 Years of Amnesty International.

The collection is scheduled for physical (4 discs) and digital release in North America on January 24, 2012 through Fontana Distribution. It will be distributed internationally through Fontana International, a Universal Music company, on January 30.

GetUrGoodOn.org, the offspring of non-profit organization Youth Service America, is a virtual social network where young people are connected to volunteer opportunities in their communities. Get Ur Good On embraces all kinds of causes and gives grants for young people to take action and get involved in any way that they prefer.

“The mission of the foundation… is [for] kids to encourage other kids not to spend time putting each other down, but to come together and meet through this, and for it not to be about anything else but love and the passion of doing good,” Miley says in the new video. "The biggest way to do that is through the internet. So I wanted people to be on the internet, talking about what needs to be done and what they should be doing to encourage other kids. You can do anything [on the site] that inspires you, it’s what you want to change and what you want to do. It’s kids making their opinions matter and getting out there and changing the world.

Cyrus greeted the wish kids and their families at the studio where she prepared for her upcoming Gypsy Heart concert tour, which opens on World Wish Day, April 29, in Quito, Ecuador. The wish kids’ experience included a makeover, a chance to visit with Cyrus, plus being treated to an exclusive performance by the platinum-selling artist during a dress rehearsal for the tour.
