24 Hour Plays To Return In June

The entire creative process, from writing to directing and performing will take place in just 24 hours.

Rob Lowe To Co-Chair Miles For Melanoma 5K Run/Walk

The Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF) and Pale Girl SPEAKS have announced that skin cancer survivor Sheryl Lowe and her husband, actor Rob Lowe, will co-chair the second annual Miles for Melanoma 5K Run/Walk at Universal Studios May 4th, 2013.

Pale Girl SPEAKS is a social networking movement dedicated to raising awareness and preventing melanoma which was founded by Hillary Fogelson. Fogelson and her husband, Universal Pictures Chairman Adam Fogelson, are co-sponsoring the 5K for the second year in a row, and Universal Pictures is a sponsor. All proceeds from the event go to the largest independent organization devoted to melanoma education and prevention, the MRF. The announcement was made last week by the MRF’s Executive Director Tim Turnham and Pale Girl SPEAKS’ Hillary Fogelson.

“Melanoma is the deadliest form of skin cancer, taking someone’s life every hour of every day and we know that the majority of melanomas are due to overexposure to harmful UV rays,” said Turnham. “The MRF is pleased to partner with the Lowe and Fogelson families to help raise awareness of this deadly disease and hopefully prevent future diagnoses.”

All-Star Cast For Alzheimer's Play

US against ALZHEIMER’S is announcing an all-star cast for the ensemble reading of the acclaimed play, “Surviving Grace”, written by Trish Vradenburg (“Designing Women”, “Family Ties” and “Kate & Allie”) on Wednesday, June 19th at a fundraising benefit at Warner Bros Studio.

The play, which was successfully performed at The Union Square Theatre in New York and The Kennedy Centre, Washington, DC is inspired by Vradenburg’s Mother’s battle with the disease, and the first act will be read on stage by a stellar cast, to be announced shortly, at the Los Angeles fundraiser to fight the battle against this deadly disease. Award winning director James Burrows will supervise the reading of this black comedy.

A number of stars have shown they care for the people of New York in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

Lady Gaga has announced a $1 million donation to the Red Cross with the following message: “Today I pledge 1 million dollars to New York & The American Red Cross for Hurricane Sandy Relief. If it wasn’t for NYC: the Lower Eastside, Harlem, the Bronx and Brooklyn, I would not be the woman or artist that I am today. New York is relentless ambition, a drive to succeed, a place where there is a natural pursuit of diversity through compassion. Molly Sims Shows Off Her New Nursery For Charity

Molly Sims has created a video that takes viewers behind the scenes for a first look as she decorates her new nursery for her first baby, due in June. The video is part of the Valspar Color Project, a three-part celebrity video series that also includes Lauren Conrad's design transformation of her Paper Crown offices and Padma Lakshmi's transformed kitchen, all to benefit Habitat For Humanity.

Molly’s video has debuted on Valspar Paint’s Facebook Page, and every time her video is viewed or shared, Valspar will donate $1 to Habitat, raising money for their work helping low income families in need of affordable housing. Each celebrity has set a personal goal of raising $100,000 for Habitat through views and shares of their Valspar Color Project video. This amount is in addition to the $3.2 million in cash and paint donations Valspar will make to Habitat for Humanity this year.

The Celebration of Babies event honored three individuals who exemplify the March of Dimes commitment to improving the health of babies by helping moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies. Actress Jeanne Tripplehorn presented Donna Langley, Co-Chairman of Universal Pictures, with the March of Dimes Grace Kelly Award, which is bestowed upon a woman who shares the March of Dimes commitment to healthy pregnancies and thriving babies. Dr. Jonathan E. Fielding, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and County Health Officer, received the Celebration of Babies Community Award, which honors an exceptional doctor who represents the values and beliefs of March of Dimes by reaching out to moms and families in the community in support of a day when all babies are born strong and healthy. Operation Smile, a worldwide children’s medical charity, honored Harrison Ford, John Stamos and Susan Casden at its 9th Annual Smile Gala on September 24, 2010, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Access Hollywood host Billy Bush served as Master of Ceremonies and Jenna Ushkowitz and Kevin McHale of GLEE performed.

Special guests attending the gala included Operation Smile Ambassadors John Salley, who served as guest auctioneer, Carmit Bachar, Deidre Hall, Donald Trump, Jr. and Vanessa Trump. A highlight of the evening included a performance by Philippine Smile Ambassador Chadleen Lacdo-o. More than $1.5 million was raised to benefit the organization.

Patrick Dempsey And Friends Attend Ferrari Charity Event

A host of stars came out last week to celebrate the first 2010 Ferrari 458 Italia in the US and help Haiti last week.

The event, held in Los Angeles, saw stars such as Patrick Dempsey, Michael Bay, Aaron Eckhart, Olivia Munn, Maria Menounos, Molly Sims and The Hurt Locker star Jeremy Renner turn out to watch as the Ferrari car went under the hammer for $530,000. Also auctioned were the opportunity to be a Ferrari team member at the Canadian Grand Prix in June, and Ferrari Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso’s original racing suit.

John Mayer was also on hand to perform at the event, which raised over $600,000 to help victims of Haiti’s earthquake through the Catholic Medical Mission Board. CMMB has been working in Haiti since 1912. It was also announced during the evening’s program that the Department of Orthopedics and Hand Surgery of the University of Modena, which has a longtime relationship with Ferrari, will make its knowledge and resources available to help CMMB in Haiti.

Celebrities Play Hollywood Dominoes for Peace and Justice

Molly Sims is to host the 2009 Friends of El Faro Fundraiser.

Friends of El Faro helps to improve the lives of the children of Casa Hogar Sion by providing food, shelter, education and a safe environment, with a long term goal to purchase land and build them a new home.

Since November of 2000, Adam Smith and his wife Leigh Kilton-Smith have been traveling with a circle of friends to Tijuana, Mexico every four to five weeks to spend the weekend with the more then 100 children of “Casa Hogar Sion” orphanage. It is here, where children, who have been abandoned or abused or neglected, have found a home, a place where they are safe and cared for, nourished and loved. The Friends of El Faro do what they can take care of the children, and Mama Carmen and Papa Jorge and the staff, remarkable people who have created a home for children who did not have one. Everything from cooking meals, to drying tears, wiping noses, lots of hugs, playing games, talking, listening, breaking up fights and mediating peace; building playgrounds, changing diapers, showing outdoor movies, popping popcorn, and most importantly, letting the children know that they are loved and cherished and important.

Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope, a goodwill program benefiting children and families, held its eighth annual celebrity gala last night at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City.

“Live with Regis and Kelly” host, Regis Philbin returned for his fifth Samsung gala and was joined by NBC Commentator Bob Costas, who returned for his third gala.

Samsung’s Four Seasons of Hope recognizes the charitable efforts of sports, entertainment, and political notables, including former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Wayne Gretzky, Arnold Palmer, Jimmie Johnson, Boomer Esiason and Dan Marino through fundraising programs tied to business partners major retailers such as Best Buy, Sears, and the recently added Lowe’s as well as some of its regional partners.
