Michael Bolton To Share Stage With Soldiers For Charity

Crooner Michael Bolton will dedicate two of his upcoming London concerts to members of the British armed forces.

The singer will be joined onstage by a band of British solders whose album, Coming Home, has become a hit on the British charts. The group – who call themselves The Soldiers – is made up of Trooper Ryan Idzi, Sergeant Major Gary Chilton and Sergeant Richie Maddocks, and has pledged all proceeds from the album to servicemen’s charities.They will join Bolton onstage at the Royal Albert Hall on November 2 and 3.

“I have great pleasure in welcoming The Soldiers to the shows at the Royal Albert Hall because I have always expressed 100 per cent support for the military at home and abroad,” said Bolton. "It is because of these people, the bravest of us all, that we have the lives and liberty that we cherish.
 
“From visiting military hospitals in the USA, it only emphasizes that these people should get all the respect and support they deserve from all walks of life including those in the entertainment industry.

 "I for one, cannot wait to see them take to the stage next week and wish them all the best in their future careers, both as servicemen and as future singing stars."

Leeza Gibbons was honored at a special charity gala last weekend that raised over US$1.1 million.

An Evening of Innovation and Inspiration is an annual celebrity gala held on behalf of the Alfred E. Mann Foundation, a medical research foundation dedicated to bringing advanced medical technologies to the public to provide significant improvements to the health, security, and quality of life for people suffering from debilitating medical conditions. Its goal; raise funding for research dedicated to the advancement of medical technologies that offer hope to people suffering from debilitating medical conditions. Driven by a team of leading engineers, doctors, and scientists, AMF’s innovations have been successful in improving the health and quality of life of thousands of patients. Hosted by Alfred E. Mann and held at the Santa Monica Airport, the evening also featured a musical performance by Michael Bolton and an auction.

Samuel L. Jackson To Host Charity Golf Bash In London

Samuel L. Jackson, star of films such as The Spirit, Snakes on a Plane and Pulp Fiction, will be hosting a star-studded benefit in London on June 11, 2009.

The benefit – which is called “Shooting Stars in Desert Nights” – will take place at two locations. The benefit will start off at London Golf Club, where charity supporters will be able to play golf with Samuel L. Jackson and many of his celebrity friends. Then the evening will bring a luxury Black and White Ball Benefit, held at London’s Hurlingham Club, and a feast of wonders with a menu designed by famed Michelin Star chefs.

Shooting Stars in Desert Nights will raise money for the Rainbow Trust and the Samuel L. Jackson Foundation. Rainbow Trust is a charity that provides practical and emotional support for families with a child suffering from a life threatening or terminal illness. The Samuel L. Jackson Foundation supports numerous charities including AIDS institutes, orphanages, the Dreams Can Be Foundation, the Breast Cancer Campaign, Red Cross, Save the Children and many others.

Many stars will be coming out to join Jackson on the golf course and also at the decadent black and white ball. Some will be team captains for the golf competition preceding the ball. Team captains will include Jackson, Alice Cooper, Jesse Metcalfe, Damian Lewis, Michael Bolton, Luke Wilson, JJ Field and Flex Alexander. Michael Campell and Colin Montgomerie are the pro golfers who will be attending the event.

Bob Hope Classic Attracts Celebrity Players

Thirteen-time Pro Bowler and all-time leading NFL scorer Jerry Rice, legendary guitarist and Rock And Roll Hall of Fame member Stephen Stills, and actors Don Johnson (Miami Vice, Nash Bridges), Kyle Maclachlan (Twin Peaks, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives), William Devane (24, The West Wing) and Bruce McGill (Animal House, The Legend of Bagger Vance) have joined the list of athletes and celebrities committed to playing in the 50th Bob Hope Classic Hosted by Arnold Palmer, Jan. 19-25, 2009.

Other celebrity participants for the Classic, a desert tradition since 1960, include former Major League Baseball and National Football League standout Bo Jackson, Tampa Bay Rays third baseman and 2008 American League Rookie of the Year Evan Longoria, famed musicians Huey Lewis, Michael Bolton, Alice Cooper, Don Felder (formerly of the Eagles), Josh Kelley and country singer Clay Walker, actors Kurt Russell, Chris O’Donnell, Thomas Gibson, Oliver Hudson and Jeffrey Donovan; actor/comedian Kevin Nealon, actor/game show host John O’Hurley, timeless New York Yankees baseball legend Yogi Berra, comedian Tom Dreesen, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback and sportscaster Dan Fouts, Hall of Fame sportscaster Keith Jackson, television financial host Joe Kernen, Cleveland Browns quarterback Derek Anderson, former Green Bay Packers wide receiver and NFL analyst Sterling Sharpe, and former Vice President Dan Quayle. PGA TOUR professional D.J. Trahan will return to defend his 2008 Bob Hope Classic title, which he won by three strokes after firing a final-round, 7-under-par 65 to finish at 26-under 334 over 90 holes. All five days of The Classic will be televised on Golf Channel. At stake is a purse of $5.1 million, $918,000 to the winner.

Palmer, a sporting and Coachella Valley icon, played in the tournament 42 of its 50 years and is the only five-time champion, winning the inaugural tournament in 1960 and again in 1962, ’68, ’71 and ’73. He won a total of 62 PGA TOUR titles. The five-day Classic features 128 top PGA TOUR professionals and 384 amateur contestants, including a stellar list of 30 celebrities.

As it celebrates its 50th anniversary tournament, the Bob Hope Classic’s host course will be the Palmer Private at PGA West. Other courses in the 2009 rotation include Bermuda Dunes Country Club, an original tournament course, La Quinta’s SilverRock Resort, which debuted in 2008, and the Nicklaus Private Course at PGA West, in the rotation for the first time.

In 49 years, the tournament has donated more than $45 million to charities throughout the Coachella Valley, including the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs of America, Habitat For Humanity and many more. Michael Bolton To Honor Kevin Bacon For Charity Work

Crooner Michael Bolton will show what a little time, love, and tenderness can do when he hosts the 16th annual Michael Bolton Charities Benefit Concert and Celebrity Golf Classic later this month.

Former host of ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” Joan Lunden will return for her 16th year as Mistress of Ceremonies for the event, which kicks off with a concert on September 21 at the Rich Forum in Stamford. Joining Bolton at the show will be recording legends Dave Mason and Ben E. King, as well as Bolton’s New Haven Choir from NBC’s “Clash of the Choirs.” The following day, Bolton will host the celebrity golf tournament at Stamford’s Rickrimmon Country Club.

The singer will also honor actor Kevin Bacon and Warren Buffett’s wife Doris with Michael Bolton Charities Lifetime Achievement awards for philanthropy.
