Eva Longoria and Lea Michele will be among the honorees of Variety’s annual Power of Women Awards Luncheon in Beverly Hills later this month.

The third annual event will celebrate the Power of Women and their impact on philanthropic and charitable causes. Every year, Variety honors a select group of women in entertainment who, through their efforts, have made a significant difference to their chosen causes. 400 invite-only guests made up of Hollywood insiders and A-list talent come to celebrate, support and pay tribute to the philanthropic efforts of these amazing women. Warren Beatty and Annette Bening will be among the honorees at the 10th anniversary Eagle & Badge Gala in LA on Tuesday, August 30.

The Eagle and Badge Foundation is a philanthropic organization created by the members and supporters of the Los Angeles Police Protective League that funds community and special projects throughout Los Angeles. Since the Eagle and Badge Foundation was founded in 2001, the members of the Foundation’s Board of Directors have provided assistance to current, retired and fallen in the Line of Duty LAPD employees and their families.

Also being honored at the event are the new coach of the Los Angeles Lakers Mike Brown and Laker owner Jerry Buss. Magic Johnson is expected to attend.

Conan O’Brien will host this year’s An Unforgettable Evening benefiting the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund.

The event – to be held on Thursday, Feb 10 – will mark the 15th anniversary of the Women’s Cancer Research Fund which continues to raise support for innovative cancer research, such as the Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project and recognize remarkable individuals for their commitment to the cause. The Breast Cancer Biomarker Discovery Project is working to identify and verify biomarkers that will lead to the development of a blood test for the detection of breast cancer at its earliest and most curable stages. The Women’s Cancer Research Fund is also funding research being conducted at prestigious, National Cancer Institute (NCI)-accredited medical institutes, UCLA Johnson Comprehensive Cancer Center and USC/Norris Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Martin Short will accept the 2011 Courage Award on behalf of his wife Nancy Short, who lost her battle with cancer in 2010. The Nat King Cole Award will be presented to Academy-Award nominee Annette Bening for her charitable works and contributions. The event will also feature a special musical performance by Grammy-winning artist Rihanna, who is nominated for four awards at the 2011 Grammys.

SAG Foundation Launches Online Celebrity Charity Auction

The Screen Actors Guild Awards kicks off the first of its three online auctions to benefit the SAG Foundation at www.sagawards.org/auction with a Holiday Auction on Friday, Dec. 10, 2010.

Coming up in January, the Red Carpet Bleacher Seat auction from Jan. 3-10, 2011 will offer fans the opportunity to cheer the 17th Annual SAG Awards’ nominees and presenters as they make their way down the red carpet. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association celebrated their annual Installation Luncheon last week at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills. The star-studded luncheon presented a record $1,541,000 in financial grants to 41 film schools and non-profit organizations. The event also celebrated the election of the HFPA’s 2010-2011 officers.

An awe-inspiring array of stars paid tribute to Paul Newman at a benefit gala for one of the actor’s summer camps for sick children in California last night.

Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, Danny Glover, Danny DeVito, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening and Billy Crystal were just some of the stars who performed a reading of The World of Nick Adams, an adaptation of a number of Ernest Hemingway’s autobiographical stories at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco.

“We expected Paul to be with us and so this kind of turned into kind of a tribute,” said Danny Glover. “This is the first time we are doing this without Paul — there is a void there, without a doubt.”

Annette Bening is to star in a charity reading of an Academy Award winning screenplay.

All About Eve scooped six Oscars when it was released in 1950, and on November 10 Bening will join several other performers in an evening honoring that achievement. The reading will benefit the Actors Fund of America, an organization committed to professionals in performing arts and entertainment and providing programs and services for those who are in need, crisis or transition.

Bening will read the part of Margo Channing, originally played by Bette Davis, and will be joined on stage by Tony Award winner Brian Bedford as Addison DeWitt, Tony nominee Peter Gallagher as Bill, Angela Lansbury as Birdie, Cynthia Nixon as Karen and John Slattery as Lloyd.

An awe-inspiring array of stars will pay tribute to Paul Newman at a benefit gala for one of the actor’s summer camps for sick children in California next month.

Julia Roberts, Tom Hanks, Sean Penn, Jack Nicholson, Bruce Willis, Danny Glover, Danny DeVito, Warren Beatty, Annette Bening and Billy Crystal will perform a stage reading of The World of Nick Adams, an adaptation of a number of Ernest Hemingway’s autobiographical stories, written by Newman’s longtime friend A.E. Hotchner at Davies Symphony Hall in San Francisco on October 27. Proceeds from the evening will go to the The Painted Turtle, one of Newman’s Hole in the Wall Gang camps for ill children.

Founded by Newman and Herb Alpert in 1999, The Painted Turtle provides the 17,000 chronically ill children in California who would otherwise be unable to attend summer camps with an empowering, renewing experience completely free of charge.
