John Travolta Flies Supplies To Haiti

Many celebrities are asking fans to join them in giving support to earthquake devastated Haiti – actor John Travolta has also climbed on board, literally. Last week he flew his own jetliner with relief supplies into Port-au-Prince’s beleaguered airport.

According to Associated Press, Travolta’s jet carried six tons of ready-to-eat rations and medical supplies, as well as some doctors.

“We have the ability to actually help make a difference in the situation in Haiti,” Travolta told AP, “and I just can’t see not using this plane to help.”

John Travolta Makes Massive Donation

John Travolta and Kelly Preston made a special announcement when they attended a charity premiere of the new animated film Bolt in their hometown of Ocala, Florida, on Friday night.

The charity premiere raised $55,000 for the local Boys & Girls Club of Marion County, a figure that got cheers from the crowds that turned out to catch a glimpse of their favorite stars. However, Travolta had a bigger surprise in store.

“And just because I’m in a good mood, I’m gonna add another $10,000 to that.”

A Chance To Meet Forest Whitaker

Fans of Forest Whitaker take note: here is your chance to join the award winning actor on the set of his new movie and maybe even sit down to a bite to eat with the man himself and his daughter.

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is being auctioned by Farm Sanctuary, an organization that works to end cruelty to farm animals and promotes compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy. Founded in 1986 to combat the abuses of factory farming and to encourage a new awareness and understanding about farm animals, Farm Sanctuary now runs several sanctuaries in the US to house rescued animals.

Whitaker and his young daughter, True, are known for their ongoing support of Farm Sanctuary, and True Whitaker was Farm Sanctuary’s first Child Chair at the 2007 Gala in Beverly Hills – sharing the spotlight with other supporters such as Ellen DeGeneres and David Duchovny. Forest and True also recorded a PSA for PETA together.

An auction of three cars from Oprah Winfrey’s personal collection will benefit the annual Arts and Culture Workshop at the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls – South Africa.

Talk show host, media mogul, and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey will auction the three cars – a 1954 Mercedes 300 SL Gullwing formerly owned by the DuPont family, a 1988 Rolls Royce Corniche II Convertible given to her by John Travolta, and a 1997 Aston Martin DB7 Volante – at Pebble Beach, California, from August 16-17, 2008. Renowned auctioneers Gooding and Company will facilitate the event. Catalogues are available for $100, including auction viewing and admission for two, and general admission is $40 per person. The vehicles will be on display August 13-17.

The three automobiles are expected to fetch a combined total of $700,000-$1 million, with 100% of the proceeds going to the annual Arts and Culture Workshop held at Winfrey’s academy. Winfrey has already donated $40 million towards the establishment of the school, which was founded in January 2007 and is located in a suburb outside Johannesburg.

The contestants must criss-cross the country, and find ways to impact the fates and fortunes of unsuspecting people who are in for the surprise of their lives.

The series will begin in Los Angeles, where Oprah will hand the contestants sealed envelopes with only a picture and the name of a complete stranger. The contestants must use their creativity and resources to generate the most powerful and sensational ways to make a real difference to their “charges’” lives.

It may be cold, and snow may be falling outside your window, but a new charity auction might have just the thing to keep you warm and cosy this winter. A host of celebrities have got together to fight the winter blues by designing a range of sheepskin-lined Ugg boots, with all proceeds going to fight childhood diseases.

Sharon Stone, Penelope Cruz, and John Travolta are just some of the 22 stars trying to keep your toes toasty this holiday season, with a variety of designs on offer in the auction to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, America’s third largest healthcare charity.

St. Jude’s is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in finding cures and saving children with cancer and other catastrophic diseases, and offers free treatment to all of its patients.
