Take That’s Gary Barlow will release an all-star charity single for the BBC’s Children in Need this November.

The single, a reworking of Massive Attack’s 1998 cult hit ‘Teardrop’, is being produced by Labrinth, who collaborated with Tinie Tempah on his massive UK hits ‘Pass Out’ and ‘Frisky’.

Joining Gary on the single will be an amazing line-up including: Ed Sheeran, Rizzle Kicks, Dappy, Fazer, Tulisa, Miss Dynamite, Wretch 32, Tinchy Stryder, Mz Bratt, Dot Rotten and fellow X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos.

The 10th annual A Night In Harlem event will take place at the Apollo Theater in New York on May 19 to benefit the Jazz Foundation of America. For over 22 years, the Jazz Foundation has been dedicated to saving the homes and lives of elder jazz and blues musicians in crisis. It now assists in over 5,000 cases a year, including hundreds of New Orleans musicians and their children still recovering from Katrina.

Hanson Leads Celebrity Charity Telethon For Japan

Hanson used their appearance at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas, last night to stage a 12-hour telethon for victims of Japan’s devastating tsunami.

Featuring R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe, The Parlotones and many others, the celebrity charity concert was streamed live online and raised money for the American Red Cross.

The telethon was drawn together in a short 24 hour period through tremendous efforts from all involved, with the aim of offering assistance and support to victims of the magnitude 8.9 earthquake on March 11th, 2011. The earthquake and resulting tsunami has left countless dead and homeless across Japan and the Pacific region.

Two huge charity concerts are currently being organized to raise money for victims of the unfolding disaster in Japan.

March 27 will see Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, Sonic Youth and a host of music acts including Mike Patton, Cibo Matto, Mephista, Marc Ribot, Uri Caine, Aleph Trio, John Zorn and many more play a Japan Benefit Concert at Miller Theatre at Columbia University in New York.

More than a dozen innovative artists at the intersection of indie rock, contemporary jazz, and avant-garde performance will come together at Miller Theatre to present a benefit concert to support recovery efforts in Japan.

Hip Hop mogul Russell Simmons is to host a very special event for Farm Sanctuary later this month as a compassionate benefit for turkeys – who get a tough time around Thanksgiving every year.

Celebration FOR The Turkeys will take place at Tavern on the Green in New York City on November 22, and will feature guest speaker Jonathon Safran Foer – author of “Eating Animals” – and special guests Lou Reed, Laurie Anderson, Peter Max and Ally Sheedy.

Bono And Friends Rock Carnegie Hall For Charity

U2’s Bono and The Edge led an assortment of stars – including Courtney Love, Lou Reed, Scarlett Johansson, Rufus Wainwright and Lady GaGa at the massive (RED)NIGHTS charity concert in New York on Sunday, October 4.

Held at Carnegie Hall, the concert will benefit Bono’s (RED) charity to eliminate AIDS in Africa, and follows the successful (RED)NIGHTS concerts that were held earlier this year, featuring Katy Perry, Fall Out Boy, The Veronicas and many others.

The musicians reportedly took part in some massive jam sessions during the concert, playing David Bowie’s Jean Genie and The Velvet Underground’s ‘Sweet Jane’.

World March For Peace Starts In New Zealand

The World March for Peace and Non-Violence kicked off in Wellington, New Zealand, today, beginning a trek that will visit 90 countries on 6 continents, ending in Argentina on January 2 of next year.

Marchers braved chilling winds in the country’s capital to start the march, which has been endorsed by world leaders and celebrities such as Penelope Cruz, Viggo Mortensen, Desmond Tutu, Martin Sheen, Jane Fonda, Jimmy Carter, Lou Reed, Yoko Ono, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, Bryan Adams and many more.

The 160,000-kilometre (99,419 mile) march has been organized by World Without Wars. A core group of 25 marchers will complete the entire journey, carrying with them a “nuclear abolition torch” taken from the Hiroshima Flame which was lit from embers following the 1945 nuclear explosion in Japan. Organizers of the World March for Peace and Nonviolence marked Hiroshima Day last week by launching roving celebrity billboards throughout midtown Manhattan.

The billboards featured the faces of many of the national presidents, Hollywood actors, musicians, Nobel Laureates and religious leaders who have endorsed the World March to demonstrate their deep concern about the unprecedented nuclear threat facing the world today. These included Penelope Cruz, Viggo Mortensen, Desmond Tutu, Jimmy Carter, Lou Reed, Yoko Ono, Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan, Bryan Adams and many more.

“It’s important to mark this day not only to remember what happened but to prevent a future nuclear catastrophe,” said World March spokesperson Chris Wells. “The situation is far more dangerous and unstable than people realize. There is a growing call for abolition, in the UN, with Obama and Medvedev, and civil initiatives like the World March for Peace and Nonviolence and Global Zero. Pre-sale tickets to this year’s Farm Aid concert are available today, July 17.

The concert will take place on October 4 at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Maryland Heights, Missouri. The annual event is set to include Farm Aid board members Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Dave Matthews and John Mellencamp, with more acts to be announced soon.

Rocker John Mellencamp has unveiled the main acts set to kick up a storm at Farm Aid 2008.

The concert – which will take place on September 20 – will be held for the first time in New England, and will see performances by Mellencamp, Neil Young, Dave Matthews, and Willie Nelson, all of which are on the board of directors for Farm Aid. More acts will be announced over the next few weeks.

“We are proud to bring our annual Farm Aid concert to a region that has such strong agricultural roots and to the many people who love to eat the good food grown in New England,” said Nelson, Farm Aid’s president. “I’m looking forward to bringing my friends together on the Farm Aid stage to celebrate and support family farmers.”

Gwyneth Paltrow might be about to outshine Coldplay-singing husband Chris Martin behind the microphone… but maybe not quite yet. The 35-year-old actress showed off her vocal talents at a charity karaoke show in London last Thursday, after a $90,000 bid prompted her to take to the stage.

The event, held at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, attracted a number of stars to get up on stage and sing their favorite tunes to benefit the Hoping Foundation. Hosted by veteran presenter Bruce Forsyth, the evening’s entertainment hoped to raise $1 million to help Palestinian children.

Paltrow is reported to have sung Roberta Flack’s “Killing Me Softly”, and gained a standing ovation for her effort. Other stars to hit the stage included Jeff Beck, Jarvis Cocker, Lou Reed, Nick Cave, Stella McCartney, and Lily Cole.
