Celebrities from around the world took time out this weekend to reflect on the tenth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks, using Twitter and other media outlets to commemorate the event.

“There’s so many stories that people don’t know,” Lady Gaga told MTV during her special documentary Inside the Outside. “I watched the towers fall from the roof of my school, holding all my best friends. I don’t know … just, my affinity and my love and the relationship I have with New York City — it’s like the husband I never married.”

The terror attacks have been on the minds of people not only in the US but around the world this weekend as we remembered those who lost their lives and loved ones in the attacks, and the struggles of those left behind.

Neil Young’s philanthropic work is as renowned as his musical legacy. Singers Sheryl Crow and Sting performed last Thursday in Toronto at the One Night Live benefit to support a new health program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Sunnybrook is a world leader in perinatal and gynaecological research and care, particularly in high risk pregnancies, and houses a multiple birth clinic that specializes in caring for women carrying more than one baby at a time. Their state-of-the-art, 150,000-square-foot centre for the High Risk Mothers & Babies Program is still being expanded in order to accommodate hundreds more babies each year.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Sting explained why he decided to perform in the fundraiser: “I did it because Sheryl was doing it.” Crow added, “And I did it because Sting was doing it.”

Habitat For Humanity of Greater Los Angeles has launched an online auction at Clothes Off Our Back featuring hardhats signed by celebrity volunteers and supporters of Hollywood for Habitat for Humanity.

The hardhats are signed and decorated by music, television and film stars including: Green Day, Ricky Martin, Linkin Park, U2, Justin Timberlake, The Jonas Brothers, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder and many more. The auction will run through March 6 with 100% of the proceeds helping to build more affordable homes in Greater Los Angeles.

Neil Diamond will be honored as MusiCares Person Of The Year later tonight – Friday, February 6 – in a concert celebrating his music and humanitarian spirit.

Heading up the list of performers set to join the music legend on stage at the Los Angeles Convention Centre are Kid Rock and British band Coldplay. Also on the agenda are the Foo Fighters, Jennifer Hudson, Jonas Brothers, Josh Groban and Faith Hill.

“It’s a double-whammy,” Diamond joked to the Associated Press. “I get a chance to help raise a lot of money and a little plaque that says, ‘Hey, you’re OK.’”

Neil Diamond Donates Money To Hurricane Ike Victims

Neil Diamond has donated the profits from merchandising sales on his recent tour to the victims of Hurricane Ike.

The singer – who is to be honored as MusiCares Person of the Year in February – initially agreed to donate his merchandising sales from his shows last October to victims of the disaster, but has now turned over proceeds from every show he has played since then.

“Hurricane Ike hit southern Texas so fiercely and has been forgotten about by the rest of the country – but these people are still in desperate straits, and are in dire need of our help,” he told CNN. “I saw what was going on. The mayor of Houston took me around, and he told me about it and introduced me to some people. The next day, I drove down to some of the hardest-hit areas, and I just felt that I had to do something, and I felt that maybe my audience would help me out with it.”
