Make It Right has announced that Ellen DeGeneres will join Brad Pitt as host of “A Night to Make It Right”, a charity gala to raise vital funds to complete Make It Right’s goal to build 150 environmentally friendly homes in New Orleans’ Lower 9th Ward.

The gala will be held at Hyatt Regency New Orleans on Saturday, March 10, 2012 and also celebrates the hotel’s grand re-opening. Performers will include Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Seal and The Neville Brothers, and the host committee includes Sean Penn, Kevin Spacey, Spike Lee, Blake Lively, Djimon Hounsou, Josh Brolin, Bennett Miller and Chris Paul.

Alec Baldwin will deliver The Americans for the Arts 25th Annual Nancy Hanks Lecture on Arts and Public Policy on April 16 at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.

The lecture is presented by Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education, in partnership with Ovation, the only television network dedicated to all forms of artistic expression.

ICAP, the world’s leading interdealer broker, raised a record $20 million (£12.75 million) worldwide on its 19th annual Charity Day, this week. This brings the total amount raised through the ICAP Charity Day, which started in 1993, to $139 million (£89.35 million).

In New York, Oprah Winfrey, Derek Jeter and Jessica Alba were just a few of the stars to visit ICAP’s offices to trade with customers in support of their charities – see some great photos of the trio here. A new cookbook inspired by the Meat Free Monday campaign – and featuring a foreword by Paul, Stella and Mary McCartney – has hit the shelves of bookstores in the UK

Following the huge success of the McCartney family’s Meat Free Monday campaign, the new cookbook launched yesterday and was inspired by the simple idea that going without meat for just one day of the week can make a huge difference to the planet, our health and even our pocket.

The campaign, which was launched in 2009, came about after the United Nations issued a report which stated that the livestock industry as a whole was responsible for more greenhouse gas emissions than the whole of the transport sector put together. Meat is in fact responsible for a staggering 18 per cent of the planet’s greenhouse gas emissions.

According to its website, Grayling is the second-largest independent public relations, public affairs, and investor relations consultancy in the world. The company opened an office in Minsk at the end of 2009 and is currently the only international public relations company to have done so. Grayling states on its website that “Belarus is a market that is often misrepresented in global media”.

As media reported about the family wreckages across the United States following the economic crash of 2008, including foreclosures, job loss and financial ruin, most fingers pointed blame towards banks and bankers. The new independent film Margin Call, which played at Sundance Film Festival last month and is showing now at Berlin’s film festival, takes a closer look at the role bankers played in the lead up to the crash.

“There was a period of time where you couldn’t pick up a newspaper and not read that every banker was the most horrible and greedy person that walked the face of the earth,” says Kevin Spacey, who stars in the film.

Mindful that consumers also played a role in “the system”, Spacey says, “The truth is, and I think what we’ve tried to illuminate in the film, is that in a lot of cases, [bankers] are just regular people, who have regular jobs, who aren’t making gazillions of dollars and who have to follow orders.”

Will Smith To Host Nobel Peace Concert

Will Smith – along with his wife Jada Pinkett Smith – is to host this year’s Nobel Peace Concert in Norway.

The concert will take place on December 11 and feature performances from Wyclef Jean, Donna Summer and Toby Keith. The Nobel Concert is an annual event televised in over 100 countries, and has in the past been hosted by Kevin Spacey, Uma Thurman, Sharon Stone, Salma Hayek and many others. Last year’s concert was hosted by Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson.

The winner of this year’s Nobel Peace Prize will be announced on October 6 and will be bestowed the day before the concert, December 10 – the anniversary of founder Alfred Nobel’s death.
