Supermodel Bar Refaeli and tennis legend Boris Becker chose the heart of London on the eve of the Laureus World Sports Awards to unveil a new polo shirt designed by fashion house Shanghai Tang in support for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation’s mission to use sport as a tool for social change and to help improve the lives of children around the world.

The elegant polo shirt, in dark blue or orange, carrying the Laureus name and the bold number ‘1’, was worn by members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a unique collection of 47 of the greatest sportsmen and women in the world. Chinese characters on the back of the shirt spell ‘Laureus’ in Chinese.

Laureus World Sport Awards To Benefit Charity

London will be the focus of the sporting world when it stages the 2012 Laureus World Sports Awards Ceremony on Monday, February 6.

The Laureus World Sports Awards, which recognize sporting achievement, are the premier honors on the international sporting calendar. The winners, as voted by the Laureus World Sports Academy, the ultimate sports jury, made up of 47 of the greatest sportsmen and sportswomen of all time, will be unveiled at a globally televised Awards Ceremony staged at Central Hall, Westminster, in London.

Proceeds from the Laureus World Sports Awards directly benefit and underpin the work of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, which supports 91 community sports projects around the world. Since its inception, Laureus has raised €40 million for projects which have improved the lives of more than one-and-a-half million young people.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association has announced that plans for its 2010 Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon are almost complete, and the 21 1/2-hour live show is going to be spectacular.

From live remotes to amazing dance and production numbers, to sensational music performances (e.g., David Archuleta, Enrique Iglesias, Lynyrd Skynryd, WAR, John Ondrasik, OneRepublic, Barry Manilow and many more), to side-splitting comedy and dramatic appeals by some of America’s most popular entertainers, the two-day television event is certain to delight viewers Labor Day weekend.

Celebrities Support Botox Expressions Of Kindness For Charity

To celebrate acts of kindness around the country, Allergan, Inc., the maker of BOTOX Cosmetic, has announced the “BOTOX Cosmetic My Expressions of Kindness” charitable campaign.

Allergan is asking everyone who is treated with BOTOX Cosmetic, or is considering talking to their physician about treatment, to post acts of kindness online to help raise up to a quarter of a million dollars for three deserving charities: Make It Right, Dress for Success and Children’s Action Network. The online fundraising campaign is being spearheaded by television personality, long-time volunteer and BOTOX Cosmetic advocate Didiayer Snyder, who is joined by fellow celebrities Vanessa Williams, best-selling author Vicki Iovine, Oscar-nominated actress Virginia Madsen and five-time gold medalist Nadia Comaneci as campaign ambassadors.

People are asked to get involved and show their support by visiting the campaign Web site at ExpressKindnessCampaign.com to complete a “My Expressions of Kindness” profile. Upon completion, a $25 donation will be automatically generated and each person will have the opportunity to choose whether it will benefit Make It Right, Dress for Success or Children’s Action Network. The “My Expressions of Kindness” profiles completed by each of the campaign ambassadors who have pledged their support to one of the charity partners is also posted on the Web site. Other social media fundraising activities include Facebook and Twitter.

Klitschko Gives At-Risk Children A Fighting Chance

Boxing champion Wladimir Klitschko is donating at least half a million dollars to Laureus Sport for Good Foundation programs for at-risk children in New York’s Bronx.

The Laureus Foundation offers a range of activities for local, disadvantaged children. Before learning to box, the children learn life skills and values, and participate in academic enrichment programs. They are also provided with a positive place to escape from the harsh realities of a depressed home and street life where absentee parents, substance abuse, and domestic violence are common.

Klitschko’s gift to Laureus comes from two sources. The first $350,000 comes from his fan base, who responded to his offer to embellish the robe he would wear for his championship heavyweight fight with the names of all who donated to Laureus in his name. A further $150,000 has already been offered for the robe, under auction until next month, and is expected to rise.
