On Thursday, 25 March, people in hundreds of cities around the world will come together to rally around the important cause of Education by hosting local events to have fun and create awareness as part of the annual Twestival (or Twitter Festival). And to help with the initiative, a host of stars have donated unique items to a charity auction.

The list of lots going under the hammer is long and exciting, and includes a phone call from Justin Bieber, the chance to meet Stephen Fry, a bag of goodies from Paris Hilton, as well as signed memorabilia from The Veronicas, Alyssa Milano, Jamie Oliver, Counting Crows, Andy Murray, Linkin Park and Chris Cornell, and much more.

Proceeds from the auction will go to Concern Worldwide, an international humanitarian organization transforming the lives of the world’s poorest, most marginalized children through access to education.

Metallica And Ozzy Donate To Charity

Heavy metal legends Metallica will kick off their latest tour with two charity shows.

The Rock Gods will play a gig at O2 World in Berlin on September 12, to be followed by a concert at the O2 Arena in London three days later, with proceeds going to local charities which will be revealed in the next few weeks. Tickets are only available to the band’s fan club members and subscribers to www.MissionMetallica.com – the band’s website dedicated to their new album, Death Magnetic. The ticket price will be as low as £5 (US$10).

The band – who have performed at a variety of benefit concerts in the past, including Live Earth, the Bridge School concerts, and the Silverlake Conservancy – are no strangers to giving their concert proceeds to charity. Following their performance at Live Earth, the band’s drummer Lars Ulrich announced that fans could download the performance, with all money raised benefiting climate charities hand-selected by the band – including the Sierra Club, Apollo Alliance, WWF, and the Rainforest Action Network.

Counting Crows' Instruments Fly Out The Door For GreyBirds

The members of rock band Counting Crows have auctioned off tickets, albums, memorabilia and instruments, raising nearly $20,000 for charity.

The proceeds will benefit the GreyBird Foundation, which grew out of the outreach program the band established in 1998 to encourage and support people to become more helpful in their own neighborhoods. Through GreyBird, the band provides a platform for other outreach groups at Counting Crows concerts. They also ask audience members to bring canned food to the concerts for donation, and encourage people to vote.

“The most patriotic act you can ever do in your life is to vote,” says Duritz.
