Humane Society Announces Genesis Award Nominees

DreamWorks’ Academy Award-nominated War Horse, Twentieth Century Fox’s Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Rio, and Alcon Entertainment’s Dolphin Tale lead the diverse field of 58 nominees for The Humane Society of the United States’ 26th Genesis Awards.

Honoring the news and entertainment media for their outstanding reporting and creative portrayals of animal protection issues in 19 categories, The HSUS’s 26th Genesis Awards, hosted by Dancing with the Stars’ Carrie Ann Inaba, will be presented at a gala ceremony on Saturday, March 24, 2012, at The Beverly Hilton, Beverly Hills, Calif. The event will air as a one-hour special on Animal Planet in May.

Celebrity presenters will include Bill Maher, Kristin Bauer and Pauley Perrette.

The San Marino Gallery will host an opening night gala for the premiere of LA Art Experience, a three-day exhibition of the gallery’s contemporary works at the historic Majestic Halls in Downtown Los Angeles (650 South Spring Street) on Friday, October 14th.

Teri Hatcher will host a very special celebrity charity red carpet yard sale to benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and RockSTAR Music Education this weekend.

The purpose of this event is to raise much needed funds to help support children suffering from childhood cancer and other life threatening diseases. Celebrity guests will include Carrie Ann Inaba, Kourtney Kardashian, Goldie Hawn, Louise Roe, Mariel Hemingway, Jayma Mays and Estella Warren.

A host of stars will come to the rescue of animals in need at the Lesher Center for the Arts in Walnut Creek, California, tonight, January 7.

The Animal Rescue Foundation’s 20th annual Stars To The Rescue concert will feature a plethora of music legends, including the Eagles’ bassist Timothy B. Schmidt, the Doobie Brothers’ Tom Johnston, trumpeter Chris Botti, singer Charlie Williams, and comedians Lewis Black and Kathleen Madigan.

The charity was created in 1991 by Tony and Elaine La Russa to address the needs of companion animals. ARF saves dogs and cats who have run out of time at public shelters and brings people and animals together to enrich each others lives. ARF strives to create a world where every loving dog and cat has a home, where every lonely person has a companion animal, and where children learn to care.

The annual Carousel of Hope Gala will take place this month to raise money for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.

Presented by Jay Leno, the gala will take place at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, October 23, and will honor Maria Shriver and Quincy Jones for their charity work.

This year celebrates 31 years of helping children with diabetes through the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes. Held every two years, this is the 19th Carousel of Hope. From its inception in 1978, the Ball has raised over $70 million.

Reality Cares Hosts The Stars For Charity During Emmy Weekend

It may have been a busy weekend for the stars as they celebrated the Emmys, but it was a huge weekend for Reality Cares, which hosted three massive celebrity charity events.

On Friday and Saturday, the foundation hosted a Giving Lounge, where celebrities were asked to give back to charity in order to receive hot products. Some of the stars who turned out for the event included Boo Boo Stewart, Alan Thicke, Bob Guiney, Patrick Gallagher and Chelsea Staub.

Friday night saw Reality Cares hold a Cancer Benefit event to raise money for The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles, a charity that provides free education and support for people living with cancer. Hayden Panettiere Leads Celebrity PSA To Stop Dolphin Slaughter

Some of film and television’s biggest stars have joined the makers of Oscar-winning conservation documentary The Cove to create a PSA encouraging fans to help stop the senseless slaughter of dolphins in Japan.

The My Friend Is… PSA features stars such as Hayden Panettiere, Woody Harrelson, Ben Stiller and Naomi Watts as they describe the slaughter of over 25,000 dolphins in Taiji every year.

The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) has announced that Revlon Brand Ambassadors Halle Berry, Jessica Alba and Jessica Biel – along with America’s favorite doctor, Dr. Oz, and Jesse L. Martin – will host the 2010 EIF Revlon Run/Walk For Women in New York with a performance by Trey Songz taking place on Saturday, May 1, 2010.

Animal activists were out in force at the Beverly Hilton on Saturday, March 20, for The Humane Society of the United States’ 24th annual Genesis Awards.

The Dizzy Feet Foundation will hold its first ever fundraising event on Sunday, November 29. The inaugural Celebration of Dance will be presented by Nigel Lythgoe, Katie Holmes, Carrie Ann Inaba and Adam Shankman, and will feature Christina Applegate, Channing Tatum and many others.

The charity was recently established by Holmes, Nigel Lythgoe, Carrie Ann Inaba and director/choreographer Adam Shankman, and aims to support, improve and increase access to dance education. Katie Holmes performed on So You Think You Can Dance earlier this year to launch the charity. Supporters of the charity include Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez and Miley Cyrus.

“We see so many rough diamonds that you would love to be able to take under your wing and polish and say, ‘Wow, they look like they can become fabulous dancers,’ " Lythgoe told CNN. “But we can’t take people that just show promise. So in order to try and do something with that, we thought of the idea.”

ABC’s Dancing with the Stars judge and iParticipate celebrity ambassador Carrie Ann Inaba donated her time – along with 50-plus volunteers – for a day of service at the Three Square Food Bank in Las Vegas on Wednesday, October 21.

The event was part of the iParticipate initiative that Look To The Stars reported on earlier this week, in which celebrities such as Michelle Obama, Blythe Danner, Morgan Freeman, Faith Hill, Matthew McConaughey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Simon Baker (CBS’ The Mentalist), Emily Deschanel (FOX’s Bones), Eva Longoria Parker (ABC’s Desperate Housewives), Julia Louis Dreyfus (CBS’ The New Adventures of Old Christine), Masi Oka (NBC’s Heroes), Michael Strahan (FOX’s Brothers), Kate Walsh (ABC’s Private Practice) and Rainn Wilson (NBC’s The Office) have joined with the Entertainment Industry Foundation to encourage people to volunteer for good causes.   

Inaba joined her fellow volunteers in sorting and packaging food for distribution to needy residents of Southern Nevada. Three Square is the only food bank in Las Vegas and prepares more than 8 million meals annually for underprivileged families.

The actress performed a song-and-dance homage to Judy Garland to raise awareness of the Dizzy Feet Foundation, a new charity established by Holmes, Nigel Lythgoe, Carrie Ann Inaba and director/choreographer Adam Shankman. The foundation aims to support, improve and increase access to dance education. Supporters of the charity include Paula Abdul, Jennifer Lopez and Miley Cyrus.

“I like to sing and dance, so this has been really fun,” said Holmes. “I think it’s important to let kids experience music and dancing and singing and the arts and also sports. The Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF) has announced that Revlon spokeswomen Jennifer Connelly and Jessica Alba, along with NBC late night host Jimmy Fallon, will host the 2009 EIF Revlon Run/Walk for Women in New York taking place on Saturday, May 2, 2009.

The organization has also announced that Emmy-nominated star of ABC’s “Samantha Who” Christina Applegate will join with Miley Cyrus, her mother Tish Cyrus, Revlon spokeswoman Beau Garrett and “Dancing with the Stars” Carrie Ann Inaba at the Los Angeles event the following week on Saturday, May 9 during Mother’s Day weekend.

Look to the Stars is very proud of our own Crystal A. Johnson , who took part in the weekend’s Revlon Run/Walk.

The 15th EIF Annual Revlon Run/Walk in Los Angeles took place Saturday Morning, kicked off by Halle Berry, Tom Selleck and Dancing With the Stars’ Carrie Ann Inaba strapping on their shoes for a great cause. The charity raises money to help in the fight against breast cancer.

However, I was not prepared for how touching it would be to see an ocean of walkers sporting tags or shirts dedicated to the memory of a loved one. Immediately, one is stricken with the gravity of the mission. Coverage of this event was double duty for me because I participated as a walker for the first time. My grandmother, Josephine Wilson had a mastectomy in the 60’s and was a proud survivor until a ripe old age.
