Elijah Wood To Be Honored At Charity Gala

On January 14th, the night before the Golden Globes, The Art of Elysium will celebrate its fifth annual HEAVEN Gala, honoring Lord Of The Rings star Elijah Wood.

This fall The Art of Elysium celebrated 14 years of providing creative arts programming for hospitalized youth in Los Angeles and New York. This year’s Visionary and creative force behind HEAVEN is Cameron Silver, founder and co-owner of Decades. The organization is thrilled to unveil his idea of heaven on earth, or “elysium”, on January 14th. The charity will also recognize Elijah Wood as their 2012 Spirit of Elysium Recipient for his years of volunteerism and tireless fundraising efforts on their behalf.

On Sunday, December 4, 2011, The Trevor Project honored Lady Gaga with the Trevor Hero Award and Google Inc. with the Trevor 2020 Award during “Trevor Live” presented by Audi of America and ING and directed by Adam Shankman.

This high-profile event to benefit the life-saving work of The Trevor Project featured moving performances from Hollywood’s most talented and entertaining performers, including Mary J. The annual show benefits the life-saving work of The Trevor Project, a recent honoree of the White House as a Champion of Change for leadership and innovation in suicide prevention.

Country Stars To Help Out At Music Camp

The 2nd Annual ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp – a week-long residential program open to campers nationwide with developmental disabilities, talented in music – will start start on Monday, June 27, with a number of stars lining up to help.

Superstars volunteering time to participate include Gary Allan, Little Big Town, Darius Rucker, Carrie Underwood and Wynonna, along with hit songwriters Odie Blackmon and Brett James, and renowned producer Mark Bright.

The Camp has a dual purpose of studying Williams syndrome and other developmental disabilities and providing music enrichment through performance and education. ACM Lifting Lives funds the costs of the Camp, enabling the Vanderbilt Kennedy Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities to advance its mission of improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities and their families through research, training and service.

Five celebrities join the American Red Cross National Celebrity Cabinet, a group of celebrity supporters who promote Red Cross services by donating their time, helping neighbors prepare for emergencies, responding to disasters and lending a helping hand to those in need – down the street, across the country and around the world.

Stars To Get A Taste For A Cure At Charity Event

A host of stars are expected to attend UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center’s 16th annual Taste for a Cure event this week.

The event will be held at the Beverly Wilshire on Friday, April 15, with a guest list that includes Michael C. Hall, Laura Linney, Matthew Morrision, Julianne Hough, Modern Family’s Eric Stonestreet and honoree David Nevins (Showtime Networks President of Entertainment).

Nevins is a founding parent of the Larchmont Charter School, a socioeconomically diverse K-8 school based in Hollywood. He also serves on the board of the Hollywood Radio & Television Society (HRTS), and has been engaged in numerous grassroots organizations in and around Los Angeles, including the Summer Night Lights gang reduction program and the Greater West Hollywood Food Coalition, which distributes surplus food from businesses to individuals in need across the city.

Actress, author and filmmaker Alana Stewart, President of the Farrah Fawcett Foundation, will be presented with the “True Grit” Humanitarian Award and philanthropist Ruth Weil will be honored with “The Duke” Award at the 26th annual Odyssey Ball, the yearly fundraising event that benefits the John Wayne Cancer Institute (JWCI) at Saint John’s Health Center, Saturday, April 9 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

This year’s gala features a performance by singer, actress and dancer Julianne Hough, star of the upcoming feature film, Footloose. KTLA’s Sam Rubin will emcee.

The Odyssey Ball is organized by the John Wayne Cancer Institute Auxiliary, established in 1982 by two breast cancer survivors, Noreen Nelson and Sandy Cohen. This year’s gala chairs are Wendy Feldman, Teddi Gilderman and Marisol Zarco. Since its inception, the event has raised over $17 million to support the John Wayne Cancer Institute’s life-saving cancer research and treatment programs.

Darius Rucker To Perform With Young Disabled Songwriters

A group of 25 disabled young adults will join former Hootie and the Blowfish singer Darius Rucker on stage at the ACM Country Music Awards this Sunday to perform a song that they wrote.

The song – Music From The Heart – was written last summer by the 25 youngsters and ACM Lifting Lives Music Camp songwriters Brett James and Chris Young. The special moment will be performed during the 46th ACM Awards, to be broadcast live from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Sunday, April 3rd, 2011 on the CBS Television Network.

James has created a new arrangement of the song, customized for this never-before-seen performance. Young, along with Music Camp friend, country singer and star of the upcoming remake of the classical movie musical Footloose, Julianne Hough, will introduce Rucker and the 2011 Lifting Lives Music Camp moment to viewers.

Some of Hollywood’s most beautiful stars will hit the catwalk for this year’s Heart Truth Red Dress Fashion Show in New York tonight.

This spectacular event reminds women of the need to protect their heart health and inspires them to take action. Slipping into red dresses for the event will be Dita Von Teese, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Alison Sweeney, Julianne Hough and Eva Amurri. Designers will include Donna Karan, Zac Posen, Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka and Oscar de la Renta.

The Heart Truth is an awareness campaign created by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health. It is designed to warn women about their number one health risk, heart disease, and the need to take action against its risk factors.

New members include actor Penn Badgley, who is best known as Dan Humphrey on the television series Gossip Girl, Giselle Blondet, a Puerto Rican who has long established herself as one of Spanish-language television’s most distinguished and popular on-air personalities, actor Josh Duhamel, who appeared in the hit movie Transformers, country music superstar Wynonna Judd, actor and hip hop music icon, LL Cool J, award winning actress and country music superstar Reba McEntire, actress and humanitarian Alyssa Milano, and actor, comedian and television personality David Spade. With the addition of the eight new members, the Red Cross now has more than 40 members on its National Celebrity Cabinet.

Celebrity couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw were honored at the Entertainment Industry Foundation’s Women’s Cancer Research Fund An Unforgettable Evening event at the Beverly Wilshire on Wednesday, January 27.

The pair were awarded the Courage Award for their work in setting up the Tug McGraw Foundation – after Tim’s father, who died of cancer – and their work raising funds for cancer research.

“Cancer took the life of my father-in-law,” said Faith Hill. “He was a brave man during his fight towards the end. His wish was to create an organisation that provided a better way of life for cancer patients and money towards research.”

A new charity auction is giving you the chance to bid on once-in-a-lifetime opportunities and items to raise money for a state-of-the-art museum in New York City designed to highlight the achievements of songwriting greats and acknowledge their rightful place in culture.

Julianne Hough Issues $100,000 Challenge To Map Play Places

Two-time “Dancing with the Stars” champion and Mercury Nashville recording artist Julianne Hough has partnered up with KaBOOM!, a national non-profit, to map and rate playspaces everywhere online. Once it has this comprehensive user-generated playground audit, KaBOOM! will know which areas of the country have a great place for kids to play every day and which areas fall short. Toward this end, Julianne will donate $1 to select charities every time someone uploads a new place to play (up to $100,000).

The challenge runs 100 days, from March 23 – June 30, or until Julianne gives away $100,000 to national non-profits that have teamed up with KaBOOM! for this project: YMCA of the USA, National Wildlife Federation, Shaping America’s Health, Jumpstart, America’s Promise Alliance and First Book.

To participate, users go online to the KaBOOM! Playspace Finder (kaboom.org/playspacefinder) pick a great charity to earn money for, then post a picture they took of a place to play, and rate it. Julianne will then give the non-profit they selected $1 each time they load a new playspace to the map. In addition to benefiting charity, every playspace loaded counts as an entry in a sweepstakes to meet Julianne or win autographed merchandise. Chuck Wicks Goes Home For Charity
