Stars To Perform At Boston Strong: An Evening Of Support And Celebration

TD Garden and Live Nation are proud to announce ‘Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration’ to be held at the TD Garden on Thursday, May 30, 2013.

Net ticket proceeds of this historic concert will benefit The One Fund Boston, set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Thomas Menino to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred in Boston on April 15.

‘Boston Strong: An Evening of Support and Celebration’ will feature (in alphabetical order) Aerosmith, Jason Aldean, Boston, Jimmy Buffett, Dane Cook, Extreme, Godsmack, The J. Geils Band, Carole King, New Kids On The Block, James Taylor, and Steven Wright. Additional artists will be announced.

“My mother suffers from Alzheimer’s disease,” he writes on his Crowdrise fundraising page. "She loved to walk everywhere. Never had a driver’s license – so I’ll run for her instead in the Boston Marathon.

Grey's Anatomy Stars Run Half Marathon For Charity

In true Southern California fashion, there was a Hollywood feel on Sunday morning at the inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Pasadena Half Marathon benefiting CureMito!. In support of the Pasadena-based charity, Grey’s Anatomy actress Chandra Wilson joined co-stars Kim Raver and Justin Chambers to raise awareness and funds for the research and treatment of mitochondrial disease at the 13.1-mile event.

“CureMito! was my biggest inspiration, which definitely is what got me out here, supporting Chandra and her daughter Sarina. I think when you have something that you are running for, it really keeps you going and you want to make a difference for those kids,” said Raver, who plays Dr. Teddy Altman on Grey’s Anatomy and finished her first half-marathon in 2:02:35. “CureMito! is an amazing organization and I am so happy to be here in support of Chandra, she is such a team player on the set of Grey’s. It was really emotional crossing the finish line and the music on the course was awesome.”

Holiday music filled the halls at Children’s Hospital Boston prior to Christmas as Keith Lockhart and members of the Boston Pops were joined by Joey McIntyre, the youngest member of New Kids On The Block, to perform an exclusive holiday concert for Children’s Hospital patients.

The stars spread holiday cheer among patients and their families with Yuletide tunes such as Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, The Twelve Days of Christmas, and Sleigh Ride, as well as a seasonal sing-along. McIntyre also followed the Pops back to Symphony Hall to appear as a guest narrator on A Visit from St. Nicholas (“’Twas the Night Before Christmas”), and a vocalist on Winter Wonderland and O Holy Night during the matinee Boston Pops performance.

The singer is the latest famous face to lend his support to Hear The World, a global initiative launched by hearing instrument manufacturer Phonak to raise awareness about the importance of hearing and the consequences of hearing loss. McIntyre also appears in the Hear the World public service announcement around the importance of pediatric hearing testing and early diagnosis.

After his son Rhys was born with severe hearing loss, McIntyre made it his mission to educate the public about the importance of early diagnosis, as well as solutions available to treat hearing loss in children.

British Bands To Play Charity Concerts

British bands are celebrating the approaching spring and summer by playing charity concerts in the UK.

To benefit cancer charity No Surrender, Maximo Park will play a gig at the Newcastle College Performance Academy tonight, March 24, and the band will also sign 250 vinyl copies of new song ‘Wraithlike’ for fans who donate a minimum of £3 to the charity.

No Surrender is a web-based forum for young adult cancer sufferers that provides a place where they can find people of their own generation who understand exactly what they are going through. The Trust was set up by Jason Boas – a friend of Maximo Park – in 2007, who at only 33 was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has since raised an overwhelming £150,000. Classic rock legends The Eagles are about to set off on their 2009 Long Road Out Of Eden tour, and to celebrate they are auctioning a signed guitar for charity.

The fantastic Takamine G-Series acoustic guitar has been signed by band members Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Scmidt, and proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association.

80’s boyband New Kids On The Block are back and once again exciting their fans with a new album and tour. And as if that’s not enough to whet the appetites of excitable young girls, then maybe this is: the band are auctioning a one-off self-portrait to raise money for charity.

The group have teamed up with the cancer charity No Surrender to auction the picture on eBay. The drawing – sketched backstage at their gig at the O2 Arena in London on January 24 – was created by band member Donnie Wahlberg, and is already attracting bids of over £1000. The pen the singer used to draw the portrait is also up for sale.
