New Kids On The Block Step Up For Charity

New Kids On The Block's Joey McIntyre is encouraging fans to donate books to needy children through his new charity, the Let’s Get This Foundation.

For every $2 donation made at a New Kids on the Block tour this summer, First Book will provide a new book to a child in need. In return for making the donation, McIntyre will give you a voucher for a free download of his latest song, Five Brothers and Million Sisters.

“For me, like a lot of others, I want to “give back”, but I either don’t know how or I don’t think it will make a difference," says McIntyre. "Part of Let’s Get This Foundation is learning how to get involved by learning from each other. As we are giving back with different endeavors or “steps”, we can learn from each other and create a forum for all kinds of “good works”- Wherever the passion lies. Passion is the key.

“Step 1 for the Let’s Get This Foundation is the summer book drive, taking place on the New Kids on the Block Full Service Summer Tour! We have been/ are picking volunteers (from thousands of e-mails) to help collect new books before each show on the tour. The fans are really pumped up to get involved. It’s inspiring to hear how much they have already done for their communities and the world.

“The statistics for lack of age appropriate reading material in low-income families is alarming. In one study, they found that in middle-income neighborhoods, there are 13 books to every child. In low-income neighborhoods, it’s 1 book to every 300 kids! We can help solve that problem!

“Like I said, I believe Let’s Get This Foundation can be a home for whatever we want to do that has a theme of giving back – big or small.”

Singer Deborah Gibson hosted an Evening Of Electric Youth last week at Café La Boheme in West Hollywood for a benefit event for the Gibson Girl Foundation, and Look To The Stars was there.

The evening included dinner & live performances from Pop/Broadway star Deborah Gibson; Ryan Black’s 88’s Cabaret, stars from television, stage & film and special performances from the kids from “Deborah Gibson’s Electric Youth.” The was also an auction of rare items from The Fray, the Jonas Brothers, New Kids On The Block, Pierce Brosnan, Donny and Marie Osmond, Paris Hilton and others, as well as amazing travel packages, tickets and backstage passes to top Vegas shows, an intimate musical evening with Deborah Gibson, and more.

The Gibson Girl Foundation awards scholarships to young performers. In 2008 alone, Gibson Girl Foundation provided more than $75,000 in scholarships to kids in need allowing them to attend the Los Angeles Summer Camp of “Deborah Gibson’s Electric Youth” as well as songwriting intensives, recording boot camps, and the New York City Winter Camp of “Deborah Gibson’s Electric Youth.”

Joining Gibson at the event were Jeremy Piven, Shannon Elizabeth, Lorenzo Lamas, Jonathan Knight, Vivica Fox, Michael Rosenbaum, Nolan Funk, Samantha Droke, John Lloyd Young, Dick Van Patten, Jimmy Van Patten, Greg Fellows, Gabrielle Union, Hayley Hasselhoff, Nathalia Ramos and many more.

British Bands To Play Charity Concerts

British bands are celebrating the approaching spring and summer by playing charity concerts in the UK.

To benefit cancer charity No Surrender, Maximo Park will play a gig at the Newcastle College Performance Academy tonight, March 24, and the band will also sign 250 vinyl copies of new song ‘Wraithlike’ for fans who donate a minimum of £3 to the charity.

No Surrender is a web-based forum for young adult cancer sufferers that provides a place where they can find people of their own generation who understand exactly what they are going through. The Trust was set up by Jason Boas – a friend of Maximo Park – in 2007, who at only 33 was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and has since raised an overwhelming £150,000. He recently passed away, following organizing a charity auction that featured New Kids On The Block. More information about No Surrender can be found here.

Also planning charity concerts are bands such as Hot Chip, The Bluetones and Bombay Bicycle Club, who will play a series of ‘hidden gigs’ in London in support of homeless charity Crisis. A total of nine gigs will be held in May and June, in unusual venues throughout the capital.

“Whether they would like to admit it or not, most people have an image in their head of a ‘homeless person’, the old-fashioned and unhelpful figure of the down-and-out, who in fact is entirely unrepresentative of the majority of homeless people in the UK,” said Hot Chip’s Al Doyle. “These are the hidden homeless, who for a variety of often very complex reasons have no regular accommodation. We hope our gig for Crisis will raise awareness of their plight, and are very happy to help the cause.”

Details of the gigs will be withheld until the last minute to draw similarities to the situation faced by many homeless people on a daily basis regarding accommodation.

Take It To The Limit With A Signed Eagles Guitar

Classic rock legends The Eagles are about to set off on their 2009 Long Road Out Of Eden tour, and to celebrate they are auctioning a signed guitar for charity.

The fantastic Takamine G-Series acoustic guitar has been signed by band members Don Henley, Glenn Frey, Joe Walsh and Timothy B. Scmidt, and proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association.

Also going under the hammer this week for the charity are guitars signed by Miley Cyrus and Brooks and Dunn, as well as signed memorabilia from the Grateful Dead, Jewel, Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsay Buckingham, Scarlett Johansson, Maroon 5, New Kids On The Block and many more.

New Kids On The Block Auction Self-Portrait For Charity

80’s boyband New Kids On The Block are back and once again exciting their fans with a new album and tour. And as if that’s not enough to whet the appetites of excitable young girls, then maybe this is: the band are auctioning a one-off self-portrait to raise money for charity.

The group have teamed up with the cancer charity No Surrender to auction the picture on eBay. The drawing – sketched backstage at their gig at the O2 Arena in London on January 24 – was created by band member Donnie Wahlberg, and is already attracting bids of over £1000. The pen the singer used to draw the portrait is also up for sale.

Tickets To Sold-Out Zootopia Concert Available

Z100’s super-fabulous Zootopia 2008 concert is set to be one of the biggest happenings of the year, and features artists such as Miley Ray Cyrus, Jordin Sparks, Gavin DeGraw, OneRepublic, and a newly reformed New Kids On The Block. Sadly, the May 17 show is sold-out… however, a limited number of seats for the New York event have just come available, with proceeds going to a great cause.
