Sean Connery Joins Sea Shepherd Advisory Board

Academy Award-winning actor and producer Sean Connery, best known as the original James Bond, has joined the International Advisory Board of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, the world’s leading marine wildlife conservation nonprofit organization.

Connery joins the SSCS advisory board alongside two valued new additions: four-time Women’s World Surfing Champion Stephanie Gilmore and Emmy Award-winning Writer, Producer and Director/Co-Creator of The Simpsons, Sam Simon.

In announcing her husband’s alliance with the leading global marine conservation non-profit, Micheline Roquebrune, Connery’s wife of 36 years, said, “It’s natural that Sean and I bring our support to the mandatory mission of Sea Shepherd.”

Stars To Attend Sea Shepherd Charity Event

The Sea Shepherd Conservation Society will host a star-studded celebrity red carpet benefit on Saturday, October 23, to defend, conserve and protect the seas.

Captain Paul Watson, President of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and star of “Whale Wars” on Discovery Networks’ Animal Planet will commence their most daring campaign, Operation No Compromise, as well as introduce their new, fast interceptor vessel that will join their fleet this winter to Antarctica. Last year, they saved the lives of 528 whales; this year’s mission will be the boldest crusade to send the whalers home empty handed.

Featuring Avatar’s Michelle Rodriguez as guest DJ, who’ll be joining the mission to be featured on Season 4 of “Whale Wars”, and set against the spectacular backdrop of an eco-friendly estate in the Hollywood Hills overlooking Los Angeles, this private fully ethical event will allow guests to learn about “Operation No Comprise”, as well as bring awareness and raise funds to benefit their campaign.

Have Lunch With MacGyver For Charity

Rumors of a MacGyver movie may be floating around at the moment, but one thing that has been confirmed is that the original star of the show, Richard Dean Anderson, is to star in a big screen version of Stargate SG-1 towards the end of this year. And now you have the chance to join him on the set for lunch.

The charity auction is raising money for the Waterkeeper Alliance, a coalition of more than 160 local organizations that take personal responsibility for the health of the waterways and communities they represent. Waterkeepers serve as investigator, scientist, educator and lawyer, enforcing environmental laws and solving environmental problems. Waterkeepers are Riverkeeper, Baykeeper, Coastkeeper, and other citizen advocates who patrol and protect their local waterbody, standing up to polluters and guaranteeing everyone’s right to clean water.

The lunch will take place in Vancouver in November or December, and is valid for two people. Bids are already over $18,000, and the auction runs until April 30. To check it out, click here.

MacGyver Makes Appearance At Charity Event

Fans of MacGyver and Stargate were out in force in Long Beach last month to witness Richard Dean Anderson make a special appearance at the 2nd Annual Quench the Fire 5K Run & Walk at the El Dorado Regional Park.

It was the second time the 58-year-old star has been part of the event – he emceed the 1st annual event in 2007. This year he made a return appearance, signaling the start of the race and announcing the winners as the race concluded. He also signed autographs and posed for pictures.

Proceeds from the event benefited the USC Pain Center at the Keck School of Medicine at USC in its goal to raise awareness of neuropathic and other chronic pain conditions such as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy. Anderson’s own doctor is associated with the facility, and funds will be used for clinical research and trials, patient education, and community outreach events.

Tomorrow, April 22, will see one of the largest global events uniting the planet against climate change to be held this year. Millions of evironmentally-minded people around the planet will hold events to celebrate the 38th annual Earth Day, a massive campaign focussing on global warming and raising awareness for a cleaner environment.

First held in 1970, and established by US Senator Gaylord Nelson, the event marks the anniversary of the modern environmental movement. All over the world, the day will see concerned citizens of the planet out in force, calling for action against global warming and a healthy, sustainable environment. Breakfasts, Scuba diving contests, celebrations, parties, wine and food festivals, marathons, and concerts are just some of the thousands of events that have been planned around the globe by the Earth Day Network, the driving-force behind the event.

One of the major campaigns being promoted in the US as part of Earth Day 2008 is the Call For Climate initiative, which encourages people to ring Congress and demand climate change action to be taken.
