The courage of British children who have faced cancer is to be recognized with a unique award backed by celebrities including Rihanna, Leona Lewis, the Jonas Brothers and footballers Ryan Giggs and Cesc Fabregas.

Cancer Research UK has launched its annual Little Star Awards, in partnership with labels-for-less retailer, TK Maxx. Relatives and friends of young cancer patients or survivors from across the UK are being urged to nominate them now for special recognition in the run up to Christmas. All Little Stars receive a special trophy, £50 TK Maxx gift card and certificate signed by their favourite celebrities.

“The children that the Little Star awards celebrate really are special,” said Rihanna. “They’ve been through so much at such a young age and the way they cope with it is a real inspiration to me. It may have been a busy weekend for the stars as they celebrated the Emmys, but it was a huge weekend for Reality Cares, which hosted three massive celebrity charity events.

On Friday and Saturday, the foundation hosted a Giving Lounge, where celebrities were asked to give back to charity in order to receive hot products. Some of the stars who turned out for the event included Boo Boo Stewart, Alan Thicke, Bob Guiney, Patrick Gallagher and Chelsea Staub.

Friday night saw Reality Cares hold a Cancer Benefit event to raise money for The Wellness Community-West Los Angeles, a charity that provides free education and support for people living with cancer. Stars Shine For Charity At Do Something Awards

On July 19, the Hollywood Palladium was filled with more stars in one place than a usual Monday evening should for the 2010 Do Something Awards hosted by VH1 on the blue – not red, but blue – carpet.

Before the event kicked off, Melanie Stevenson from DoSomething.org streamed live and greeted celebrities, creating a Twitter craze. Tweets tagged as #DSawards were displayed across the stage on the electronic banner and questions for host Jane Lynch to answer were welcomed.

Host Jane Lynch, aka Sue Sylvester, delivered as many witty one-liners as her Glee character loves to partake in. The hilarious opening, which can be viewed on VH1 here, shows Lynch with her long list of good things to do, ending with a bang as Sue Sylvester look-alikes flooded the Palladium. Joe Jonas Returns From Charity Trip To Southern Africa

The recent spotlight on South Africa has had everyone’s support and attention, including musician Joe Jonas, who returned from his trek to Maun in Botswana enlightened.

Bono Leads Celebrity PSA For (RED) Charity

(RED) has announced the launch of The Lazarus Effect Campaign, a multi-platform campaign across TV, online and print, including an HBO documentary airing on May 24, that will help raise awareness of the transformative effect of antiretroviral medicine for those living with HIV in Africa.

Launching April 29 on HBO, the awareness campaign will roll out across various TV and online networks in the coming weeks. The campaign equates the relative value of 40 cents by comparing trivial items worth 40 cents e.g. a stick of gum, a smear of lipstick — to the value of one day’s worth of life transforming antiretroviral medication.

Kevin Jonas To Appear On Game Show For Charity

The oldest sibling in the Jonas Brothers – Kevin Jonas – will appear on NBC game show Minute To Win It on May 23 to raise money for the group’s charity, Change for the Children Foundation.

The show sees contestants take on a series of games – each lasting a minute – to win $1 million.

“We can’t wait for Kevin to come on the show and take on some of our most nerve-wracking challenges,” executive producer Craig Plestis said in a statement to Access Hollywood. “We’re anxious to see if he can win it in a minute and raise some big money for his charity.”

Actresses Kristen Bell and Heather Graham are pairing up with TOMS Shoes to launch a campaign raising awareness for children in poverty-stricken areas who cannot afford shoes.

The stars have pledged to go without shoes on April 8th and encourage their fans to participate in the campaign. Heather Graham admits she is intimidated by the prospect of spending a whole day without her shoes on stating, “I’m pretty nervous about it because I live in New York City and it’s really, really gross here.” Kristen Bell urges people to “Join me on April 8th, take off your shoes, and spread the word.”

Joe Jonas And Demi Lovato Make A Wave For Charity

Disney stars Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato have recorded a single called “Make a Wave” that is now being played on Radio Disney, in an effort to raise awareness for Disney’s “Friends for Change: Project Green.”

“Friends for Change” is a campaign to encourage youth to be more environmentally conscious.

The “Make a Wave” music video will air on the Disney Channel March 14, and the song will be available on iTunes the following day. 100% of the proceeds will support several environmental charities through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF).
