Eva La Rue To Honor Fran Drescher At Charity Ball

CSI: Miami’s Eva La Rue will honor Fran Drescher at a special charity event this weekend.

The Diamond and Pearl Ball 2011 – An Evening at the Moulin Rouge – will take place at the Balboa Bay Club and Resort at Newport Beach in California on October 22, and will benefit the Beckstrand Cancer Foundation.

Since 2006, Eva La Rue has dedicated her off-screen time to playing an instrumental role in raising awareness for the needs of cancer patients by collaborating with various nonprofit organizations nationwide, including the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (NOCC). Having lost her grandmother and her great-grandmother to cancer, the cause remains close to her heart and was a catalyst for her involvement in Beckstrand Cancer Foundation. As the Foundation’s National Spokesperson, Eva works to extend Beckstrand’s mission of improving quality of life for cancer patients and their families by providing patient advocacy, financial assistance, counseling, art therapy and education. While research is imperative to finding a cure for this devastating disease, Eva’s objective is to shed light on an equally important part of the fight: The critical day-to-day survival needs of patients as they undergo treatment. Beckstrand Cancer Foundation completes the circle of care for patients by providing help and offering hope to meet these needs.

Stars To Celebrate World Peace Day At Bullets4Peace Event

A number of celebrities will come together on Wednesday for a very special World Peace Day celebration in Hollywood with Bullets4Peace.

The third annual Reloading Life event will feature a very special live performance by peace activist and international vocal sensation Liel Kolet, with a guest list that includes host Chris Noth, Bullets 4 Peace founder Rafi Anteby, LOVA Tea co-founders Stephanie Cence and Tara Wilson, Akon, America Ferrera, Bill Maher, Bobby Brown, Boris Kodjoe, Brandon T. Jackson, Brandy, Brian McKnight, Cedric the Entertainer, Chris Pine, Cynthia Nixon, Dennis Haysbert, Donald Faison, Eric Dane, Esai Morales, Eva Marcille, Forest Whitaker, George Lopez, Hill Harper, Idris Elba, Jill Hennessy, John Corbett, John Slattery, Jordin Sparks, Julie Benz, Kathy Griffin, Kiefer Sutherland, Keke Palmer, Kristin Davis, Kyle Maclachlan, Lance Gross, Lenny Kravitz, Paul Johansson, Regina King, Sarah Jessica Parker, Sean Penn, Shannon Elizabeth, Taraji P. Henson, Tatyana Ali, Travis Barker, Vivica Fox, Zoe Kravitz, Wayne Brady and many others.

Bullets4Peace is a jewelry line made of recycled bullet casings taken from reload centers, streets, and war zones. When a bullet is fired the tip flies towards the target and the casing falls to the ground. Manufacturers reload these casings with live ammunition. Bullets4Peace intercepts this vicious cycle by transforming the casings into unique and stylish pendants insuring that these bullets will never find their way back to war zones, thus promoting harmony and peace. Bullets4Peace transforms war bullets into beautiful and unique jewelry as a way of spreading consciousness of peace.

Regina King Empowers Women Through Twitter

Actress Regina King has launched a social networking organization aimed at motivating and empowering women.

The actress, who has been empowering her fans via uplifting messages on the popular networking site Twitter.com, has expanded her inspirational ‘tweets’ to begin her own organization and spread the positive messages.

She tells Hip-Hop Weekly, “I have a social networking organization I have started called B2B and it means Back to Business…It actually started on Twitter and I ended up with so many followers that I decided to spread the message to help empower and bridge that gap between women. We have all gone through something and we have all failed before. There needs to be motivation in the community.”

Regina King Makes It Real For Breast Cancer

TV viewers may have caught Regina King in a new TV movie this month, but most people are unaware of her inspiration: the actress signed up to appear in the film to pay tribute to the five women in her life who have won and lost breast cancer battles.

Living Proof – which went to air on Lifetime on Saturday, October 18 – told the true story of doctor Dennis Slamon, who developed ground-breaking breast cancer drug Herperin. Also appearing were Harry Connick Jr. and Trudie Styler.

“I knew pretty much about breast cancer and the statistics,” King told BlackVoices.com. “I have five women that have been in my life that have been affected by breast cancer, so I would say that it’s close to home. Three of them are survivors and two of them weren’t. I would say that it’s close to home for everyone, unfortunately… The reality and the seriousness of that didn’t make it hard for my heart to think of the women I know who battled with the disease and the children who were left behind by those women who died. All of that was right in my heart. It’s just really tapping into that.”
