Jimmy Kimmel To Emcee Diabetes Charity Event

Escape the everyday at the 7th annual Stand Up For A Cure, to be held on Sunday, October 25th at the Millennium Biltmore Hotel Los Angeles.

Featuring two funny guys known for their testosterone-driven humor, the event will be emceed by late-night host Jimmy Kimmel and headlined by “According to Jim” star Jim Belushi, who will wear a different hat as front man to the Sacred Hearts band.

For the fifth consecutive year, the evening is presented by Turner Construction Company. Proceeds benefit the cure-focused work of the Diabetes Research Institute (DRI).

“This event is more important this year than ever before,” stated Kiara Walbridge, who is once again co-chairing the event along with Mary Farrell.

“Kiara and I visited the Diabetes Research Institute this summer. We were honored to speak with the scientists who are physically doing the work we’ve read so much about. These are the people who are going to cure our children and everyone with diabetes. They’re true heroes,” said Farrell.

Walbridge added, “The funds raised at this event go directly to DRI scientists. And what’s more is it’s a great escape from the stresses of life. It’s going to be an amazing night!”

This year, the event will honor Paula Wilson, a longtime diabetes advocate who has served as chairman of the DRI Foundation’s regional board and as a past co-chair for Stand Up for a Cure.

As has been so popular in the past, attendees will be treated to silent and live auctions with items running the gamut, from trips to fine wines and even a walk-on role for the hit television program CSI. Beyond the auctions, guests will have a chance to win fabulous prizes, be treated to a festive cocktail reception and sumptuous dinner and, of course, enjoy plenty of laughs from Kimmel and an exciting musical performance by Jim Belushi & the Sacred Hearts.

Jay Leno To Host Charity Auction

Fresh from finishing his reign as host of The Tonight Show at the end of May, Jay Leno will preside over a live and silent charity auction on June 13 to support charities operating in Southern California.

The Vintage Hollywood Foundation’s annual food and wine tasting event will be held at the home of Holly Brooks in Los Angeles and will benefit the Children’s Action Network. Items going under the hammer will include vacation packages, private dinners hosted by top chefs, tickets to the 2010 American Idol final, tickets to Gordon Ramsay’s Hell’s Kitchen and shows hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and Conan O’Brien and much more.

The Vintage Hollywood Foundation was formed to raise funds to support charitable organizations, both large and small, that work to promote the health and well-being of Southern California’s diverse community. Since 2002, the Vintage Hollywood event has raised more than $1,000,000 to benefit organizations including United Friends of Children and Save the Children.

Celebrities Donate Ties To A Good Cause

Looking for the perfect father’s day gift that benefits a good cause? Jack Nicholson, Patrick Dempsey and Jimmy Kimmel are just a few of the stars who have taken off their ties for a good cause.

In honor of its tenth anniversary, Career Gear, a nonprofit that assists disadvantaged men find and retain employment, will auction off the ties of some of the biggest style icons from the worlds of film, television, music and sports to raise money for sustaining its career counseling workshops and retention services that lead to quality-of-life improvements.

You can own the tie of Josh Brolin, who doffed the tie he wore to the W. premiere, Kevin Spacey, who signed his silver Armani, or John Waters, whose expressive tie reflects his creative sensibilities. Eric Bana, Matt Dillon, James Marsden, Christopher Meloni, Neil Patrick Harris and Tony Shalhoub have also loosened their collars in honor of Career Gear’s decade of helping men in need. Additionally, a full suit donated by professional hockey player and fashion enthusiast Sean Avery will be up for bid, as well as a selection of ties from André “3000” Benjamin’s clothing line, Benjamin Bixby.

The ten-day auction launches on June 5, with 100 percent of funds raised going directly to Career Gear.

Elephants Never Forget Celebrity Auctions

They say an elephant never forgets… and this new celebrity charity auction will give you something to remember forever.

A host of celebrities have donated signed photos and memorabilia to the Alzheimer’s Association’s Elephant Project Auction. Stars such as Pink, Julie Andrews, Jennifer Garner, Adam Sandler, Idina Menzel, Kristin Chenoweth, Sarah Silverman, Shirley MacLaine, John Lithgow, Melinda Doolittle, William H. Macy, Jason Biggs, Jimmy Kimmel and many more have put their signatures on special photo cards for the auction, and all proceeds go to this great cause.

Created in 2006 by 18-year old David Niederhoffer after his grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s disease, the Elephant Project aims to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, and to get teenagers more active in community service.

“There is a phrase that says ‘Elephants never forget’,” said Niederhoffer. “Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia… As I live relatively close to New York City, I wait outside of Broadway theaters and other events to meet each celebrity. After explaining to them what I am doing, I ask each celebrity to sign a business card that was custom made for this project. I also ask the celebrities to pose with either Trumpet the Elephant beanie baby or Peanut the Elephant beanie baby. All the pictures are printed out and auctioned off with the signed card. After I obtain a significant amount of signed cards/pictures, they are auctioned off on eBay. Each auction package also comes with an elephant beanie baby!”

Clay Aiken Is A Champion Of Change

Singer Clay Aiken performed at a special benefit for his own charity on Saturday night.

The 29-year-old sang at the 2008 “Champions of Change” event held in Raleigh on October 18 that honored companies and individuals who help promote the Bubel/Aiken Foundation’s mission give children with disabilities the opportunity to experience life with their peers.

Held at the Raleigh Marriott City Center, the event featured an auction that included a Tiffany bracelet, tickets to “Spamalot,” dinner with Aiken, clothing belonging to the American Idol runner-up, and a bust of his own head signed by Jimmy Kimmel!

The Foundation aims to bridge the gap that exists between young people with special needs and the world around them and provides services and financial assistance for the disabled community, creating awareness and recognizing ‘Champions of Change’.

Star Goodies Up For Grabs In Charity Auctions

The Television Academy Foundation is offering an array of exclusive items and experiences to bidders through a special online charity auction hosted by eBay Giving Works.

All proceeds from the auction – which can be accessed through the eBay Giving Works website – will benefit the educational outreach programs of the Television Academy Foundation, as well as the preservation efforts of the Archive of American Television, whose aim is to create an interactive encyclopedia of television history.

A wide range of items are available, including bikes signed by Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox, VIP tickets to The Daily Show and signed memorabilia from Jon Stewart, a set visit to CSI: New York, VIP tickets and meet and greets to Jimmy Kimmel Live, and signed memorabilia from the casts of Saving Grace, Two and a Half Men, Rules of Engagement, Rescue Me, Law and Order, King of the Hill, Smallville, and Battlestar Galactica.

The auction runs until September 4.

Also running at the moment is the Celebrity Bric-A-Brac charity auction raising funds for AMREF UK – the leading health development organisation in Africa, saving and transforming the lives of some of the poorest and most marginalised people in Africa.

Items up for offer include Ian McKellen’s slippers, Mischa Barton’s handbag, Lily Allen’s dress, and memorbilia signed by Noel Gallagher, Will Young, and Jodie Kidd.

David Cook Raises Cancer Funds

American Idol winner David Cook is to perform at a California charity event to raise money for cancer research.

The 13th annual Taste For A Cure event will be held on June 21 at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel in Beverly Hills, to raise money for the Jonsson Cancer Center Foundation at UCLA, a non-profit organization dedicated to raising private funds for highest priority cancer research.

The event – a wine and food tasting reception followed by a seated dinner with creations by award-winning chefs – will be hosted by comedian Jimmy Kimmel and will honor Fox Broadcasting Company President of Entertainment Kevin Reilly with the Gil Nickel Humanitarian Award.

Fans of David Cook should also head over to eBay for a special charity auction benefiting the American Cancer Society in support of the singer’s brother, who is fighting brain cancer.

A signed guitar and three T-shirts are up for offer in the auction, which ends on June 17.

The Fender Telecaster guitar has a starting bid of $300, and was given to Cook’s last band, the Midwest Kings, and was signed in 2008 during the American Idol’s homecoming visit to Blue Springs, Missouri. The T-shirts feature a graphic with David Cook singing on American Idol. All three shirts are size large, and bids are already over $41.
