Phil Keoghan Helps Raise Christchurch Charity Cash In Washington

New Zealand-born Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan was among the guests at a special Christchurch earthquake fundraising event in Washington DC on Thursday, April 14.

Over $200,000 was raised at the event, held at the New Zealand Embassy, to help victims of the February 22 earthquake, which killed over 180 people and left many thousands without jobs and facing massive bills to repair their homes.

Keoghan, who was born near Christchurch, said it was important for people to know that Christchurch was “open for business”, and he thanked Americans for their continued support in helping to rebuild Christchurch.

Phil Keoghan Raises Earthquake Awareness

Phil Keoghan – host of The Amazing Race – is currently in New Zealand in an effort to raise worldwide awareness of the country’s recent devastating earthquake.

The death toll from last week’s 6.3 earthquake is expected to reach 240, and Keoghan is in Christchurch – where he grew up – to accurately convey the disaster to Americans.

“What we have to be very careful of is that overseas doesn’t think that all of New Zealand has fallen down,” he said. "The message that I’ve been trying to communicate is that the doors for tourism in New Zealand are open. If you’ve got trips planned to New Zealand, don’t cancel them, make sure you take that trip because that’s the best way you can support us.

The Stars On Climate Change - What Do They Think?

October 15 marks the third annual Blog Action Day, when bloggers around the world focus on one prominent issue through individual ideas, actions, and thoughts.

This year’s topic is climate change, and Look To The Stars has delved into our archives to find 13 quotes relating to the thoughts of some of the most noteworthy celebrities who are devoted to finding solutions to global poverty.

Hugh Jackman: "You can’t separate the issues of climate change and poverty. They are inextricably linked. Having been to Ethiopia and seen these farmers, seen the battle they face from what is a problem that the developed countries have brought on many of these developing countries, there is a justice, there is a gap we need to fill.

Interview: Phil Keoghan Talks To Look To The Stars

At the age of 19, Phil Keoghan nearly drowned during a dive to a shipwreck. The near miss inspired him to reevaluate his life, and he is now one of the best known reality TV presenters in the world.

Although millions of people know Keoghan as the host of the Emmy Award-winning hit The Amazing Race and CBC’s No Opportunity Wasted, millions more have been inspired by his philosophy of living life to the full. After surviving his diving accident, Keoghan set himself a “wish list” of all the things he wanted to do before he died – he checked off the first item straight away by returning to the shipwreck on the very same day of the mishap. From renewing his marriage vows underwater to changing a lightbulb on top of New York’s 700-foot Verrazanno Bridge to setting world records for group bungee jumping, Phil Keoghan is well on his way to checking off every item on his list.

But the 41-year-old also uses his experiences to inspire others to lead the lives they want to lead, to achieve the things they have always hankered for but “never had time for”. He uses his No Opportunity Wasted (NOW) philosophy to cut through the excuses and get people motivated. He urges that everyone should write their own “wish list” and forget about the excuses – we only have one life, and we should live it NOW. “The more I live, the more I want to live, and the more I want to help others live their once-in-a-lifetime dreams,” he told Oprah in 2001.
