Christie Brinkley Donates Divorce Boat To Charity

Ex-couple Christie Brinkley and Peter Cook have come to an agreement over a boat caught up in their divorce proceedings – by donating it to a children’s charity.

 The supermodel and the businessman ended their relationship in 2008, and last week the former couple announced their boat Sweet Freedom will be donated to AMI Kids, a Florida-based organization that helps troubled youths. Established in 1969, the charity has helped more than 95,000 misguided kids develop into accountable, responsible and productive citizens. 

“We are disposing of the boat and giving it to charity,” said Cook. “Hopefully before the end of next week.”

Artists & Writers To Swing For Charity Again

Phoenix House is delighted to announce that once again they will benefit from the Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game.

The 61st annual Hamptons rite of summer will feature a lineup that includes: Alec Baldwin, Christie Brinkley, Carl Bernstein, Mort Zuckerman, Lori Singer, B. Smith, Dan Gasby, Greg Bello, Ken Auletta, James Lipton, Jeffrey Lyons, Juliet Papa, Edward Nahem, Kim Stolz, Bonnie Bernstein, Mark Ciardi, Rod Gilbert, Mike Lupica, Bert Sugar, Richard Reeves, and many more to come.

The event, which last year drew a crowd of over 2,000 spectators, will take place on August 15, 2009 in East Hampton’s Herrick Park. Celebrity batting practice will begin at 1 pm, and the Home Run Derby, sponsored by U.S. Sports Film Festival, will begin at 2 pm. The players will take the field at 3 pm. A donation of $10 is suggested for spectators. Students from the Phoenix Academy of Long Island will be selling hot dogs and other concession items.

“I was proud to serve as umpire for this event more summers ago than I care to admit,” said former President Bill Clinton, in a letter to the organizers. “I know firsthand how much fun it is, and how dedicated the players, spectators, and organizers are to being good neighbors and contributors to their community. Though the rivalry runs deep and winning is serious business, this (mostly) friendly competition truly represents America at its best, reinforcing our fundamental values of community, responsibility, and compassion.”

The Artists & Writers Charity Softball Game first started at a picnic in the summer of 1948, in Wilfrid Zogbaum’s front yard. The event has grown to include notable politicians, actors, musicians, publishers, editors, and television personalities, and is a beloved event of every East Hampton summer.

Over the years, spectators have watched as Bill Clinton, Rudy Giuliani, Chevy Chase, Jackson Pollock, and many others have battled on the ball field. The casual setting, dedicated fans, and a decidedly competitive match make for some great summer entertainment.

Phoenix House is one of the nation’s leading drug and alcohol treatment centers. In East Hampton, Phoenix House operates an outpatient center that offers group, individual, and family therapy; and in Wainscott, the organization runs the Phoenix Academy of Long Island, providing residential treatment to teens along with educational and vocational services.

Bid On A Vespa Signed By The Stars For Charity

Stand Up To Cancer recently teamed up with Island Def Jam records to launch an exciting new star-studded charity auction.

Celebrity guests at the record label’s VIP lounge at the Sundance Film Festival had the chance to sign a Vespa S50, and now the charity is selling the bike to the highest bidder.

Stars who have signed their name on the item include Alan Cumming, Andie MacDowell, Anne Heche, Christie Brinkley, Dominic Cooper, Hoobastank, Robin Thicke, Terrell Owens, Wesley Snipes, Christina Milian, Kevin Sorbo, Razorlight, Jon Mclaughlin and many more.

Stand Up To Cancer is a non-profit organization that aims to raise money for cancer researchers and scientists to come together and reach their common goal: the cure for cancer. Last September they held a huge star-studded telethon to raise money and awareness for their cause. Simulcast live on NBC, ABC, and CBS, the telethon featured celebrities such as Jennifer Garner, Halle Berry, Forest Whitaker and Casey Affleck reading accounts of people battling cancer, as well as musical items, comedy sketches, and the opportunity for people to ring up and pledge donations – with stars such as Ellen DeGeneres, America Ferrera and Kirsten Dunst answering the phones.

Stars Go Downhill For Charity

Alec Baldwin was one of a host of stars spotted on the ski slopes at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Sports Invitational in support of Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s Waterkeeper Alliance during the weekend.

The annual event raises funds to protect North American and Canadian waterways, and regularly raises over $1 million. The event was first held in 1986, and has gone on to become one of the most popular celebrity skiing events, attracting stars such as Pierce Brosnan, Christie Brinkley and Tim Robbins.

This year’s event is believed to have been attended by Glenn Close, Beau Bridges, Tom Cochrane, Peter Fonda, John McEnroe and Chad Lowe. Also spotted making their way down the slopes were ER star Juliana Margulies, former Beverly Hills 90210 actor Ian Ziering, Olympic gold medalist Al Joyner, Sopranos actor Joe Pantoliano and environmental warrior and actor Ed Begley Jr..

“For the Canadian groups, this has been the primary fuel for our growth in Canada,” said Mark Mattson, president of Lake Ontario Waterkeeper and the Canadian representative to Waterkeeper Alliance’s board of directors. “Kennedy has put more and more money into our groups. The event has really built a base in Canada to bring people in to get to know Kennedy and his message.”

Supermodel Christie Brinkley launched her third Got Milk? advertising campaign at the Sundance Film Festival during the weekend.

The campaign – which features posters of the beauty sporting a milk mustache – encourages people to drink more milk and lead healthier lifestyles.

“This is a great way to ensure that if … you are cutting back and you are not able to buy an expensive piece of fish or something else, milk actually, per glass, is a very affordable way to get your nutrients,” she said. "Everybody is always rushing around. Everybody’s got so much to do and you can’t always put together that perfect balance of nutrients on a plate, but when you add milk to the meal, it really does complete it!

“I’ve been drinking milk all of my life and I think it’s a vital part of living well. As a busy mom constantly on the move, I may not always have an extra hour to hit the gym, but I always have time to grab a glass of milk. It’s one of the simplest things you can do every day and feel good about, for you and your family.”

Brinkley also revealed her optimism about the new government led by Barack Obama: “I think there’s a whole, real positive energy going on and I hope to flow along with that positive energy.”

The new Got Milk? ads will appear in USA Today on January 20.

Stars Swing For Charity

Chevy Chase and Alec Baldwin took their chance to swing for charity on Saturday, August 16, when they competed in the annual Artists & Writers Softball Game in East Hampton.

In what started as an evenly matched game, Chase turned the tide in favor of the Artists team when it was down 2-0 to eventually win 4-2, their second win in two years. Baldwin acted as umpire for the game. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the annual game, a tradition started by artists including Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning.

The event raised $60,000 for three charities – the East End Hospice, the East Hampton Day Care Centre, and Phoenix House – a facility that specializes in drug rehabilitation.

Chase and Baldwin were joined by celebrities such as Kim Stolz, Lori Singer, Mort Zuckerman, Jeffrey Lyons, and Mark Green. They join a long list of stars who have taken part in the game over the last 60 years, including Paul Simon, Christie Brinkley, Dustin Hoffman, Alan Alda, Pelé, and Bill Clinton. This year’s game was played in memory of actor Roy Scheider, a veteran of the Artists team, who died in February at age 75.

Jonas Brothers Raise Scholarship Money

The Jonas Brothers played a special gig attended by a host of stars on Saturday.

The boy band – who recently made headlines for their work raising awareness of diabetes – played at Ross School in East Hampton on August 9. The concert – attended by 650 people who paid $1,500 each – was part of a star-filled summer series to raise funds for the school, where tuition is up to $24,800 per year. Money raised will go toward raising the $2 million needed to build up the school’s annual scholarship fund and give any interested children the opportunity to attend.

“Our goal of events like this is to make the Ross School available to any student that is interested,” said Michele Claeys, head of the school. Currently, 40% of students receive scholarships to attend the school.

Later this month, Aretha Franklin will headline a $1,000-per-ticket concert at the school – a follow-up to a show she played in 2006 that raised $1.3 million for financial aid. Last year’s concerts were headlined by Billy Joel.

Christie Brinkley and Kelly Ripa were among the audience for the Jonas Brothers’ show.

Celebrities Hit The Snow For Charity

Former Agent 007 Pierce Brosnan will put his skiing skills to the test in January, joining a host of other celebrities as part of a charity fundraiser in Canada.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Celebrity Sports Invitational will be held at the Sunshine Village Ski Resort from January 17 to 20, and will involve stars such as Leslie Nielsen, Christie Brinkley, Alec Baldwin, and Tim Robbins.

The event, which has been held annually since 1987, will benefit the Waterkeeper Alliance, an organization founded by Robert J. Kennedy, Jr to protect North American waterways. Four days of skiing will be held on the slopes, in which members of the public can ski alongside celebrities, followed by a concert by former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald, a gala dinner, and an auction.

Tickets to the gala cost $500, and can be purchased from the Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Other stars to attend the event include Jason Priestley, Kelsey Grammer, Josie Bissett, and Elle Driver.
