Jude Law returned to Afghanistan earlier this week for a two-day mission in support of Peace One Day and UNICEF.

Film director and Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley was also on-hand, encouraging people to once again observe Peace Day on September 21st as part of Peace One Day’s global campaign for ceasefires and non-violence.

While in Kabul, the pair screened a new documentary, The Day After Peace, about how ordinary people in Afghanistan are working towards an end to the conflict.

The documentary shows the events that took place in Afghanistan in September of 2007, and highlights the support from UNICEF and the World Health Organization. The two groups have immunized 1.4 million children against polio, with last September seeing more than 10,000 vaccinators visiting insecure areas of the country as part of a ‘National Immunization Days’ polio immunization campaign.

“This is about saving lives despite anyone’s political beliefs. We hope to see the same commitments that we saw last year from all parties to the conflict. Our goal is to reach every child in Afghanistan,” said said UNICEF Representative in Afghanistan Catherine Mbengue.

Peace One Day supporters will celebrate 21 September with a special concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London featuring Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams and John Legend. Stars To Donate Fees To Heath Ledger's Daughter

The three actors who replaced Heath Ledger in his final film are to donate their fees to the late star’s daughter.

Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell, and Jude Law replaced the late actor in scenes for Terry Gilliam’s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus after filming was suspended when Ledger was found dead in his New York City apartment in January. In the film, which is slated for a 2009 release, Ledger must visit three different dimensions through a paranormal mirror in a bid to rescue the daughter of a traveling showman who sold his child to the devil in exchange for everlasting life. And although Ledger’s completed scenes will be included in the film, Law, Depp and Farrell will also appear in place of the actor in scenes that had not been shot.

“The great thing about it was when Heath died those three actors came along and saved the day. It’s now four actors creating one character,” said Gilliam. "The three actors were totally heroic coming in because this doesn’t happen very often, where there is a tragedy and very famous and successful actors come in and say OK we’ll do whatever it takes to help. To be part of that is wonderful. They didn’t take money – it goes to Heath’s daughter.”

According to the BBC, Ledger had not updated his will to include his daughter Matilda or his ex-partner Michelle Williams, and his family has promised that the pair would be an “absolute priority”. The stars were reportedly concerned about Matilda’s future, so they decided the money they made for the film should go to her.

“That’s extraordinary! And wonderful," Gilliam told Britain’s The Sun newspaper. “…And when you’re part of that, you think, ‘Ah, this is maybe why I went into the movies in the beginning. I thought it would be full of wonderful people.’”

New York City To Host Peace Day Concert

New York City has been named the latest venue of a Peace Day Concert, and will rock the Nokia Theatre 12 days before London’s extravaganza.

Grammy-award winning singers Annie Lennox and Bryan Adams will perform acoustic sets alongside international sensation Natasha Bedingfield during the September 9 concert. The evening will also feature video messages of peace from celebrities and artists including Jude Law and Lenny Kravitz, speeches from international luminaries, and clips from the acclaimed documentary, The Day After Peace, will add to a remarkable night of entertainment.

“What I love about Jeremy Gilley and the Peace One Day campaign, is that the whole thing was started by just one individual who is trying to make difference, despite the odds,” said Annie Lennox, who also took part in last year’s concert in London. “We all have so much potential, but we don’t tend to realize it, so we take it for granted. The work of Peace One Day encourages and inspires people to think about we can all do, both at individual and “collective” levels. There are better and alternative means to conflict resolution than “killing and maiming the enemy”. Political leaders and power brokers have too much invested in the industry of war, rather than implementing peaceful solutions. What is life without peace? Peace is for the highest good, and as a global community it is one of the things we need to value above everything.”

Proceeds from the concert, which will also be televised, will assist the organization’s ongoing mission to raise awareness of Peace Day. As a direct result of Peace One Day’s campaigning in 2007, 1.4 million Afghanistan children were vaccinated against polio, and 100 million people in 200 countries were engaged in Peace Day activities.

After last year’s sell out show, the annual Peace One Day concert is set to rock the Royal Albert Hall in London.

World Peace Day has been held on September 21 annually since 2001, when the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted September 21 as a day of global ceasefire and non-violence. The initiative came from an idea by Jeremy Gilley, who founded his non-profit organization – Peace One Day – in 1999. Since then he has amassed an impressive list of supporters, including Chris Martin, Sir Richard Branson, Angelina Jolie, Alan Rickman, and Michael Douglas.

This year’s concert will see performances from Annie Lennox, Bryan Adams, and a guest appearance from Jude Law. There will also be a gala screening of The Day After Peace, the acclaimed new documentary film made by Jeremy Gilley. The film, which received a great reception at its premiere during the 61st Cannes Film Festival, features Kofi Annan, The Dalai Lama, Angelina Jolie, Jude Law, Annie Lennox and Jonny Lee Miller.

The 2007 concert featured acts such as Corinne Bailey Rae, Kate Nash, James Morrison, and Yusuf, with video segments from David Beckham and the Dalai Lama.

Jude Law Champions Annual Day Of Peace

Jude Law has just presented the new film he is featured in along with David Beckham – The Day After Peace – at the Cannes film festival.

The brainchild of Jeremy Gilley – who believes that media has a responsibility in the messages and images it distributes to the world – The Day After Peace is a film documenting his past 10 years of campaigning the world over for support of an official annual day of peace – September 21.

One of Gilley’s successes, a UN resolution to support the day, came in 2001. However, on September 11, the scheduled day of the announcement, the 9/11 tragedy unfolded in New York postponing Gilley’s victory.

Another of his achievements was the halting of warring factions in Afghanistan during 2007’s Day of Peace so that over one million children could be vaccinated against polio.

His past decade of persuasion has not been limited to politicians and non-profits, though. He has also gone after big business for support of a day of non-violence, as well as to people on the ground.

Law joined Gilley on a trip to Afghanistan last year to find out what was really going on. “Feeling first-hand the presence of the frontline, being able to feel the hope of the people,” Law told the BBC. “There’s a very cynical, violent image of Afghanistan. My overall impression of this country is one of great hope.”

Peace Day seems to be catching on. Last year almost 30 million people participated in Peace events across the globe. Annie Lennox – who performed in the Peace One Day concert in London – said, “Something that’s of common interest to every man, woman and child on the planet must surely be the notion of peace.”

Both Gilley and Law couldn’t agree more. They want to get a simple message out there: that anyone can make a difference. Gilley says, “You can be an ordinary person with no qualifications and you can have an idea that could save people’s lives.”

Kristin Cavallari To Host Make-A-Wish Fashion Show

Reality TV star Kristin Cavallari is set to host the Bebe Luncheon and Fashion Show supporting the Make-A-Wish Foundation. The event will be presented by The Beverly Hills Women’s Club, and will take place on Wednesday, March 5. The reception begins at 11:30, with the luncheon starting at noon.

Since 1980, the Make-A-Wish Foundation has enriched the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions through its wish-granting work. The Foundation’s mission reflects the life-changing impact that a Make-A-Wish experience has on children, families, referral sources, donors, sponsors and entire communities. The Make-A-Wish Foundation has many celebrity supporters, including Halle Berry and Jude Law, who help to bring joy to the lives of terminally-ill children.

21-year-old Kristin Cavallari shot to fame with her role in the reality series, Laguna Beach. She supports a number of charities, but over the last 12 months has made several appearances at Make-A-Wish Foundation events. Jude Law to Make Film in Afghanistan For World Peace Day

British actor Jude Law is to film a new documentary for the BBC in Afghanistan, as part of the lead up to World Peace Day on September 21.

The 35 year old star of Cold Mountain" and “The Road To Perdition” will join documentary maker and humanitarian "Jeremy Gilley in a film about the effects of war on Afghan children, and the efforts of UNICEF to provide aid. The pair will also record the preparations made by UNICEF in the war-torn country to celebrate this year’s World Peace Day.

“This is a historic project, rooted in film,” said Law. “I’m immensely proud to be a part of it.”

Jude Law Hosts Concert To Benefit Post-Katrina Rebuilding

The Music For Tomorrow Foundation is holding a concert on September 18th at Tulane University to help bring music back to New Orleans. Jude Law will host the event, joined by musician Wynton Marsalis and author Douglas Brinkley.

The concert, held at the university’s Dixon Hal, will feature the Irvin Mayfield Quintet. Mayfield, who lost his father to the hurricane, is the Cultural Ambassador to the City of New Orleans, and has played a critical role in bringing attention to the important role culture plays in the lives of the people and the city.

Music and the arts are recognised as the second largest employment group in New Orleans, and the city lost 90% of its musicians due to Hurricane Katrina.

The goal of the charity and its supporters is to raise one million dollars to invest in grants for displaced musicians and supplement the newly proposed National Jazz Center.

Robbie Lines Up Maradona For Soccer Aid Match

Retired superstar footballer Diego Maradona is set to join Robbie Williams in the Soccer Aid celebrity football match to beneft UNICEF.

Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium will be the venue for the televised match on Saturday 27th May. Confirmed celebrity players include Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, TV chef Gordon Ramsay and Formula One racing driver Michael Schumacher.

Maradona is said to be keen to captain one of the two teams.

Frost and Moss Help Orphans

Sadie Frost is flying to Africa to help build an orphanage for the Homes Of Hope project.

Frost learned of the plight of twelve AIDS orphans while travelling in South Africa with her ex-huband, Jude Law, and their children last year.

Frost is also trying to involve her good friend, Kate Moss, in the project. A friend of the supermodel says that the English beauty is speaking to some of her clients to see what they can do, and is also donating money to the cause.

Celebrity Art Auction For WAVE

Artists and celebrities, such as Jude Law and Robbie Williams, have joined James Nesbitt to raise money for WAVE Trauma Centre.

Nesbitt is a leading organizer of WAVE’s celebrity art auction, in which professional and amateur artists are given a canvas and the opportunity to create a masterpiece.

John Hurt spent two weeks on a self-portrait that has been valued at £20,000 by the art curator at London’s Groucho Club.

There will be a public exhibition of up 300 pieces of the art at Belfast’s City Hall from the 24th-28th of April. The open auction will take place on April 28th at 7:30pm, and the event finishes with a gala ball on April 29th.

Robbie Williams is set to lead the British football team in this summer’s charity tournament, Soccer Aid.

Williams has invited Jude Law and Orlando Bloom to join him in training for the match, which is scheduled for next May. His team will be taking on celebrities from around the world at Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium to raise money for UNICEF.
