Stars Play Poker For Children's Institute

Celebrities and other high profile guests will wage their bets on Saturday afternoon, October 17, 2009, at the Commerce Casino, in support of Children’s Institute, Inc.’s (CII) work with children who are affected by violence, abuse and other trauma.

Top players have a chance to win several top prizes, including $5,000 in cash, a 2010 World Poker Tour Celebrity Invitational Tournament Seat (valued at $25,000), or a business class personal computer system.

A host of stars will attend, including Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning actress Camryn Manheim, who will act as host of CII’s “First Annual Celebrity Poker Tournament”. Also attending are Brandon Beemer, Maria Bello, Dean Cain, Kevin Davitian, Tony Denison, Joely Fisher, Willie Garson, Jennie Garth, Kelli Gates, Nicholas Gonzalez, Neil Patrick Harris, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Cheryl Hines, Jamie Kennedy, Ricki Lake, Kevin Nealon, Mekhi Phifer, Kevin Rahm, Mimi Rogers, J.K. The event will take place at Commerce Casino, 6131 Telegraph Road, Commerce, California.

Children’s Institute, Inc. helps children who have been affected by violence in their homes or communities. Bid On Celebrity Puzzle Pieces For Autism

In support of Autism awareness, Baby Swags has received over 40 celebrity signed puzzle pieces to show support for Autism Awareness and the charity ACT Today!.

Some of today’s hottest teen celebrities came out to show support, such as Tiffany Thornton and Allisyn Ashley Arm from the hit show, “Sonny With A Chance”, Jennifer Stone from Wizards of Waverly Place, iCarly star Jennette McCurdy and many more.

On Saturday, August 8, Padres Contra el Cancer (PADRES), a non-profit organization committed to improving the quality of life for Latino children with cancer and their families, hosted the Spike for HOPE! Celebrity Volleyball match as part of the 2009 avp crocs slam bud light hermosa beach open presented by Virgin America.

In 2009, AVP named PADRES its Charity Partner for their 2009 avp crocs slam bud light hermosa beach open presented by Virgin America. Through the partnership, AVP and its sponsors committed to a fundraising effort throughout the duration of the 2009 tour to help raise awareness about childhood cancer within the beach community and also to raise funds for PADRES program and services. To date the AVP relationship has raised approximately $20,000.00.

Taking the sand were AVP Players Priscilla Lima, Tatiana Minello, and Nancy Mason. Notable and formidable celebrity players included L.A. The Screen Actor’s Guild Foundation is raising money for it’s literacy programs by auctioning off books signed by your favorite stars. Going under the hammer are titles such as The Olsen Twins’ Influence, Michael J. Fox’s Always Looking Up, Heidi Klum’s Body of Knowledge, Julianne Moore’s Freckleface Strawberry and the Dodgeball Bully, Tom Colicchio’s Craft of Cooking, William Shatner’s Quest For Tomorrow, Alison Sweeney’s All The Days Of My Life, Kirk Douglas’ Let’s Face It, Jenny McCarthy’s Healing and Preventing Autism, Larry King’s My Remarkable Journey, Tori Spelling’s Mommywood, Sean Astin’s There and Back Again, John Lithgow’s The Poet’s Corner and many more.

Proceeds from the auction benefit the Screen Actors Guild Foundation’s literacy effort, which began in 1992 and now includes such programs as:

BookPALS, a volunteer program comprised of performing artists who read aloud to students in schools, hospitals and libraries.
We The Children, which teaches children the value of books and the importance of their lives by giving them the opportunity to write and illustrate their family history.

Stars Give Eggs And Plates To Feed America

Premier charity auction site Clothes Off Our Back is hosting two very special celebrity auctions for Feeding America… and one only has a few hours left to run.

A host of stars – including David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Adrian Grenier, Isla Fisher, Marcia Cross, Melissa Etheridge, Tori Spelling, Alison Sweeney, Jewel, Molly Sims, Maria Menounos, Denise Richards and many more – have decorated eggs for an “eggs-cellent” auction.

The eggs were decorated at the recent Diet Pepsi Holiday House event to support the cause of fighting hunger in America. United Egg Producers donated a truckload of eggs to Feeding America for every egg decorated.

To view the eggs or make a bid, visit the Clothes Off Our Back website. But be quick, this auction only has a matter of hours left to run.

Bidders have more time to take part in the other auction currently being run for Feeding America. A selection of celebrity-autographed plates to benefit the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity – sponsored by Healthy Choice and the ConAgra Foods Foundation – is up for grabs until May 7.

Stars such as Julia Louis Dreyfus, Jennie Garth, Nancy O’Dell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jimmy Jean-Louis and others have taken the time to decorate the plates in a variety of designs that reflect their personalities.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus, along with Healthy Choice and the ConAgra Foods Foundation, presented a generous donation of $250,000 to Feeding America on April 18 – providing more than 1.75 million meals, or plates of food, to children and families in need. Celebrity guests at the event autographed the plates as a symbolic gesture in the ongoing fight against hunger. Dreyfus is also auctioning off signed storyboard props used in the filming of the new Healthy Choice commercials for the organization.

The Los Angeles SPCA is currently running a charity auction featuring pet bowls signed by some very famous pet lovers.

The pet bowls have been designed and signed by stars such as Tori Spelling, Alison Sweeney, Jenna Fischer, Amanda Tapping, Paul Blackthorn, Reno 911’s Wendi McLendon-Covey, Dancing With The Stars’ Carrie Ann Inaba, Ugly Betty’s Mark Indelicato, Danny Pintauro, 90210’s Annalynne McCord, and Michael Rady.

Also up for offer is the chance to attend the upcoming basketball game featuring the LA Kings take on the Anaheim Ducks on January 8.

The auction closes later today – December 15 – so you had better be quick. All proceeds will go to the LASPCA to help them run animal shelters and Cruelty Investigation Programs, as well as their Disaster Animal Response Team and Humane Education Programs in Southern California.

Stars Hit The Catwalk For St. Judes

A bevy of stars stepped out on the catwalk on Saturday night for the 5th annual Runway For Life benefit in Beverly Hills.

Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ross McCall, Hilary Duff, Selena Gomez, Jonny Lee Miller, Daisy Fuentes, Jason Alexander, Nancy O’Dell, Cybill Shepherd, Natasha Henstridge and Jaime Pressley were among the stars to show their fashionable sides in the fundraiser for the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and William Shatner was spotted in the audience.

Over 1,000 guests attended the event – held at the Beverly Hilton – which raised well over $1 million for St. Judes. Runway for Life is one of the biggest fundraising events of the hospital’s calendar, and has netted over $6.5 million since it was first staged.

Past events have included appearances by Cindy Crawford, Anna Kournikova, Alison Sweeney and many more.

Alison Sweeney Wants Hydration For All

As host of NBC’s The Biggest Loser, Alison Sweeney knows the important role hydration plays in a healthy lifestyle – so it was no surprise that the Days of our Lives star joined Thermos to celebrate the launch of Thermos’ www.hydrationforall.com website on September 9.

Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon Still Going Strong

If ever there was a main event in the name of charity it would be the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.

Year after year, millions of Americans tune in to watch the all-day event. This year’s line up of celebrity hosts for the telethon included Jann Carl, Tom Bergeron, and Alison Sweeney among other esteemed personalities, with performances by Céline Dion, 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock and Reba McEntire. Running 21-1/2 hours, the MDA telethon began at 9 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Aug. 31 and continued through the evening of Labor Day, with about $65 million raised during the run.

A special plea was also made for MDA-registered families forced to leave their homes because of the hurricane, which made landfall Monday in Louisiana.

Now in its 43rd year, and with immense competition coming from multiple choices in cable programming and increased internet use, an online auction has been incorporated to boost the telethon’s efforts.

Anybody walking through Times Square may be surprised to find hundreds of jeans and shirts hanging like laundry from clotheslines above the streets. Don’t be too concerned… it’s all part of the Pair in the Square Celebrity Jeans Auction.

Alison Sweeney, host of The Biggest Loser and cast member of Days of Our Lives, kicked off the auction yesterday by auctioning off Ryan Seacrest’s jeans to benefit the Clothes Off Our Back Foundation.
