DoSomething.org Announces Top 20 Celebs Gone Good 2011

DoSomething.org, one of the largest U.S. organizations that helps teens take action on causes they care about, released today its fourth annual ‘Top 20 Celebs Gone Good’ list.

Lady Gaga continues her reign as the star who uses her celebrity to do the most good. Known for her support of gay rights, AIDS, and poverty, she focused primarily this year on bullying, even taking her thoughts to the White House in December. She also announced the creation of her own charity, the Born This Way Foundation, which aims to empower youth and lead them to a brave new society where each individual is accepted and loved as the person they were born to be.

Making a meteoric rise to number two this year is Justin Bieber, up from number 10 last year. His fast rise is due to his prolific work with Pencils of Promise, an organization that builds schools in Laos and Guatemala. Justin is also a consistent supporter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, raised funds for charity with his fragrance and holiday album, and recently distributed $100,000 to Whitney Elementary School in Las Vegas.

New Years Eve Stars Stand Up To Cancer

Stand Up To Cancer (SU2C) is proud to announce a new public service announcement (PSA) featuring the stellar ensemble cast of the holiday romantic comedy NEW YEAR’S EVE from director Garry Marshall (Pretty Woman, Valentine’s Day), that will appear in national and regional publications during the month of December.

The new SU2C print PSA campaign asks the public to join the cast of New Year’s Eve—which boasts some of Hollywood’s biggest stars, including Halle Berry, Jessica Biel, Jon Bon Jovi, Abigail Breslin, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Robert De Niro, Josh Duhamel, Zac Efron, Hector Elizondo, Katherine Heigl, Ashton Kutcher, Seth Meyers, Lea Michele, Sarah Jessica Parker, Michelle Pfeiffer, Til Schweiger, Hilary Swank and Sofia Vergara — to help change the odds and stand up in the fight against cancer.

The PSA’s theme, “It’s Up2 All of Us to Stand Up To Cancer,” underscores SU2C’s core mantra: each and every one of us can make a difference in the fight against cancer. One in two men and one in three women in the U.S. will be diagnosed in their lifetimes, and this campaign calls on everyone to stand together to change those devastating odds.

NFL Star Launches Giving Assistant App

NFL star Adrian Peterson and his All Day Foundation will make the holiday shopping experience more meaningful with the debut of a revolutionary new browser app called the GIVING ASSISTANT, which directs funds raised in online shopping to programs that support youth, build self-esteem, promote healthy lifestyles and prevent gang involvement. The GIVING ASSISTANT is a free download powered by GlobalMojo, a socially conscious technology company based in Seattle and San Francisco.

The GIVING ASSISTANT installs seamlessly into your favorite browser in seconds (available for Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer) and notifies you of more than 1,000 participating partners when you are shopping. Each time a purchase is made with an approved partner, a percentage of sales is automatically redirected to programs that support at-risk children at no additional cost to the shopper. Whether you’re gifting books, DVDs or clothing, or planning your holiday travel, consumers can give twice this holiday season…once to those on their own shopping list and once to others in need.

Demi Moore And Ashton Kutcher Support Football For Good Campaign

This football season, NFL star Adrian Peterson and his All Day Foundation are partnering with the DNA Foundation, created by Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore, to make each touchdown count for more than just points.

Through Football for Good, players and fans are coming together to raise funds and awareness to bring an end to child sex trafficking and support programs that enrich the lives of children around the country. It is estimated that more than 2 million children are victims of sex trafficking around the world. What many people don’t know is that this doesn’t just happen overseas, it happens here at home as well. More than 200,000 American children are at risk of being trafficked. Football for Good works to raise awareness about this issue and gather support for programs that address the needs of some of our country’s most vulnerable youth.

Donate now and join Adrian, Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore and players from around the NFL in raising funds to make a difference in the lives of children, and win great prizes along the way.

BV created a custom-etched and painted, 27-liter bottle of the winery’s flagship Georges de Latour Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
Justin Bieber Gets Celebrity Support For Charity Show

Justin Bieber has won the support of Ashton Kutcher and M.C. Hammer by announcing a benefit concert to help youth win places at college.

The teen star will play a special show at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga on June 11 to raise money for College Track. The organization, according to its website, is a “catalyst for change for under-resourced high school students who are motivated to earn a college degree. Since its inception, College Track has grown each year, strengthening its services and expanding its program to support more and more students.”

Some of College Track’s celebrity supporters have praised Bieber’s decision to play the show: “Hey Justin Bieber proud that you are playing a show for College Track,” Tweeted Ashton Kutcher. “Good on you.”

Photos: Celebrities Join Real Men Don't Buy Girls Campaign

As reported earlier this week by LookToTheStars.org, Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have been joined by a host of their celebrity friends for a new initiative to fight child sex slavery.

“Child sex slavery is a difficult issue to think about, which makes it all the more important that we do,” remarked Ashton Kutcher. “Real Men do not ever buy children for sex. Period.”

Added Demi Moore: “People don’t realize child sex slavery is a serious problem in the United States. Young girls are victimized in the commercial sex industry every day. No 13-year-old girl chooses to be exploited for sex. Real Men love, care, and protect girls. Real Men don’t buy girls.”

Demi And Ashton Fight Child Sex Slavery With Celebrity Charity Video

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have been joined by a host of their celebrity friends – including Justin Timberlake, Sean Penn, Jamie Foxx, Drake, Jason Mraz and Bradley Cooper – for a new video initiative to fight child sex slavery.

Demi and Ashton are using their charity – the DNA Foundation – to launch the campaign, with its message that “Real Men Don’t Buy Girls.” According to CNN, 100,000 to 300,000 American children between 11 and 14 are vulnerable to being sold for sex every year.

“The average age of a girl involved in the sex trade is 13,” said Kutcher. "And the average man who buys a girl is 30-years-old, has no prior criminal record, and has a well-paying job.

Ashton Kutcher Wants Craigslist To Help Stop Sex Trafficking

Craigslist.com, like eBay, is the go to place for pack rats, collectors, all things frugal, and…sex traffickers? Actor and producer Ashton Kutcher has called out the virtual marketplace’s founder, Craig Newmark, via Twitter on promoting an illegal business in the black market.

Kutcher tweeted, “Do U have ideas how 2 help Craigslist fight human trafficking? pls send all responses to @craignewmark.”

Kutcher (@aplusk) encouraged his over five million followers to come up with ways that Craigslist.com could do something about trafficking. Kutcher suggested catching traffickers by having them enter their credit card information before they are able to view search results. Kutcher added that Newmark should donate the money made from the illegal business to fund technology that prevents future situations on the website.

Demi Moore Finds Inspiration In Haiti

Demi Moore just returned from a visit to earthquake ravaged Haiti, and seems to have found inspiration in the rubble.

Moore and Ashton Kutcher’s new charity, the DNA Foundation, is focused on the sex slave trade, and tends to use public awareness in its efforts to eventually bring the trade to an end. DNA is not about cleaning up after natural disasters. In an interview with CNN’s Anderson Cooper last week, Moore explained why she went to Haiti and what she found there.

“[Ashton and I] became aware of the Restavek system, which is about 300,000 children who are enslaved to do all the work, who sleep on the floor and in most cases it’s the young girls who are sexually exploited.”

Demi Moore And Ashton Kutcher: Ban Child Slavery In Haiti

Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher have announced the launch of a new campaign to urge the Haitian government to ban child slavery.

Experts estimate that there are approximately 300,000 child slaves in Haiti under the “restavec” system. Restavec is derived from the French words “reste avec” which means “one who stays with” and the system is not illegal under Haitian law.

Restavec children can be bought and sold in Haiti. Some are sold by desperate parents who hope that they might have a better life when living in someone else’s home. This is almost never the case.

Ashton Kutcher Happy With Green Valentine's Day

The all-star cast of Valentine’s Day – screening in theaters now – were more than happy to learn that the set of the film was entirely environmentally-friendly.

“There are a lot of things wrong with our environment, so to go green seemed to me to be a very good thing,” said director Garry Marshall. “It’s not that big an effort. If we could do it, others can do it.”

Producers of the film ensured that biodegradable and recyclable materials were used where possible during the making of the movie.

Ashton Kutcher And Demi Moore Give Flowers To Charity

Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore will send roses to 270 human trafficking victims this Valentine’s Day to raise awareness of their plight.

“I struck up an agreement with the wife this year that we’re not going to try to do something big for each other and instead the best way we can celebrate the day is to share our love with other people,” said Kutcher. "There’s an organization in New York called GEMS that helps human trafficking victims. There are a bunch of these girls that have come off the streets and are now being housed by this organization, so we’re going to make all those girls our Valentines this year.

"I think there are 270 girls, so we’re going to send them all flowers so they can know they can be loved by someone without them having to ask for anything in return."

Ashton Kutcher Keeps Charity Promise

Last year, Ashton Kutcher and CNN raced to be the first to get to one million followers on Twitter. Kutcher said that if he got to one million first, he would pay for 10,000 malaria nets for Malaria No More.

He did win, and he’s keeping his promise.

On World Malaria Day 2009, the most retweeted message on Twitter was: “Every 30 seconds a child dies from Malaria. Nets save lives. Support World Malaria Day = www.MalariaNoMore.org.” Thanks to this, almost 90,000 nets will be distributed in the Senegalese towns of Seraya and Velingara.
