Rock Legends Unite For The Prince's Trust In London

Pete Townshend, The Feeling and Boy George were part of a star-studded line up that rocked the Royal Albert Hall for The Prince’s Trust Rock Gala supported by Novae.

The music extravaganza, hosted by Edith Bowman and Patrick Kielty, raised vital funds – and the roof – for the youth charity’s vital work with disadvantaged young people. The fundraiser comes in the wake of news that more than a million 16 to 24 year-olds are out of work, the highest number since records began in 1992.

A long list of Prince’s Trust supporters performed at the Rock Gala – the tenth in The Trust’s history – including singer songwriters Chris De Burgh, Nik Kershaw, Julian Lennon, Cerys Matthews, Alison Moyet and Joss Stone , rock legends Kenney Jones, Mark King and Midge Ure, urban saxophonist YolanDa Brown, classical music star Charlie Siem and comedian and musician Tim Minchin.

Former Catatonia singer Cerys Matthews has teamed up with Scottish alt rockers Attic Lights to record a new Christmas single.

Santa’s Girlfriend is a slice of guitar pop fun aimed to raise money for the Scottish children’s charity Cash For Kids (formerly Make A Child Smile), an organization that raises money to help sick and deprived children across Scotland.

“We were keen to do a Christmas single,” said singer Colin McArdle, “and with Cerys and Cash For Kids everything just fell into place”.

Cerys Matthews Supports Welsh School In London

Welsh pop star Cerys Matthews – former singer for Brit Pop band Catatonia – will perform at a charity ball to raise funds for the only Welsh medium school outside Wales this weekend.

The London Welsh School – which is attended by Matthews’ two children – is having trouble finding funding due to the fact that it is not in Wales, in which case it would be funded by the National Assembly, and the UK government only funds schools that follow the national curriculum. The London Welsh School follows the Welsh curriculum.

The Dragon Ball – at which Matthews will perform – is being held at Porchester Hall, Bayswater, on Saturday October 4. Funds raised will also go to charities including Marie Curie Cancer Care and the Downs’ Syndrome Educational Trust.
