Earlier this week, former Spice Girl Melanie C took to the stage joining cast members from the award-winning West End musical We Will Rock You to perform a unique curtain call charity collaboration – and was joined by a very special guest.

Introduced by writer and director of the show, comic genius Ben Elton, the performance was part of BBC Children in Need Pop Goes The Musical, a series of West End performances by pop stars to help raise money for disadvantaged children and young people in the UK.

But as a further electrifying surprise for the audience, rock legend, founding member of Queen and music supervisor of the show Brian May took to the stage. He joined Melanie C in a fantastic and highly energised rendition of ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘We Are The Champions’.

Sugababes To Headline Cancer Charity Show

The Sugababes will headline a show for charity later this month.

The British girl band will join Pixie Lott, La Roux and Paloma Faith for a music and fashion extravaganza in London on January 27. The event will coincide with European Cervical Cancer Prevention Week in support of Fight Cervical Cancer in Style, a national campaign to help educate girls and women about cervical cancer, so they can better understand their risk and how to reduce it.

Stars Flock To Elton John's Charity Winter Ball

Elton John held his annual Winter Ball to benefit the Elton John AIDS Foundation in London last night – and some very special guests helped out.

The event, held at the Grey Goose Hotel Du Palais at the Grosvenor in Mayfair, featured a performance by Kelly Rowland and three unique cocktail bars designed by couturier Roland Mouret, model Lily Cole and singer Lily Allen. Guests included Elizabeth Hurley, members of the Sugababes and The Saturdays, and Daniel Merriweather.

“The Foundation prides itself not only on producing beautiful events, but on ensuring that every penny they raise goes directly to our charitable work,” said Sir Elton and his partner, David Furnish. "This event is no exception, thanks to the generosity of Grey Goose. The Foundation is now one of the largest HIV/AIDS charities in the world, yet our overheads are amongst the smallest – currently 4.3%. Over the past year, we have committed to initiatives that change not only the way services are received in local projects but at a national or international level. These include working with the Clinton Foundation to expand and refine treatment services for over 20,000 children in Malawi, Lesotho, Tanzania, Zambia and Kenya, and with Mothers 2 Mothers in the same countries to stop HIV-positive pregnant women transferring the virus to their babies. In Ukraine, a national programme for children will change the way HIV–positive children are told about their illness and how they are treated in school and in society.

Dave Stewart Donates Suit To Charity Auction

Musician Dave Stewart has donated the suit he wore when he accepted the Awards for Outstanding Contribution to British Music for Eurythmics (Silver Clefs Award by the Nordoff Robbins Foundation) in 2000 to the world’s leading Eurythmics fan site for a charity competition.

Ethrill.net has been collecting rare items like lithographs and deluxe books, limited vinyl and much more from fans of the band to give away as part of the anniversary of Annie Lennox’s SING Campaign to help prevent the spread of HIV in South Africa, where 1,000 people die from AIDS-related causes every day. Since 2007, SING has raised over $2 million, and helped over 100,000 people affected by HIV in the Eastern Cape of South Africa – but there is much more work to be done.

Sugababes Fight Cervical Cancer In Style

The Sugababes have been revealed as the faces of Fight Cervical Cancer in Style, a national campaign to educate girls and women about cervical cancer so they can better understand their risk and how to reduce it.

The campaign, developed by GlaxoSmithKline, is being run in association with Jo’s Trust, the UK charity dedicated to cervical cancer, and is supported by the Royal College of Nursing and Wellbeing of Women. The campaign is funded by GlaxoSmithKline.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Heidi Range says: “Having performed at Jade Goody’s wedding, cervical cancer is a subject we feel passionately about. We are proud to be supporting the campaign as it is important that girls and women realise how they could catch the virus that causes cervical cancer, as well as the steps they could take to reduce their risk.”

Annie Lennox To Play Unplugged In South Africa

Annie Lennox will play a special unplugged concert in South Africa next month for charity.

The singer will perform at the Teatro theatre in Montecasino on July 8 to raise funds and awareness for her SING Foundation.

“Audiences will see the star up close and personal, accompanied by nothing other than her piano and her stories,” said Penny Stein, spokeswoman for the event.

Annie Lennox SINGS In Norway

Singer Annie Lennox was in Norway last week to host a special event that aimed to raise money and awareness for the SING Campaign against AIDS.

The singer performed in Oslo on May 15 at an event in which guests were required to make a minimum donation of NOK 1,000 to the SING Campaign in order to redeem an invite.

Beatles Day 2009 To Benefit Charity Appeals

Fans of the Fab Four around the world will have the chance to celebrate their favorite band during Beatles Day 09 and raise money for the Imagine Appeal for the Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the Marina Dalglish Appeal for a radiotherapy centre in Liverpool.

Officially launched by Julia Baird – John Lennon’s sister – and Ricky Tomlinson, the event will take place on July 10 in places as diverse as China, Russia, New Zealand and of course Liverpool.

This year will mark the second time the event will be held, with last year’s homage to John, Paul, George and Ringo – which gained support from Pink, Russell Brand and the Sugababes – raising over £45,000. Liverpool will once again host a concert as part of the event, and there will be loads of merchandise and happenings available.

Annie Lennox Raises Awareness Of SING Campaign

Singer Annie Lennox has just released her new Greatest Hits collection in the US and has used the occasion to raise awareness of a new campaign being run by SING, an initiative she established to bring attention to AIDS/HIV in Africa.

Over the next few weeks and months, SING will be telling the stories of four women in Africa who are currently living their lives and raising their families whilst dealing with the effects of HIV/AIDS.

After personally witnessing Nelson Mandela describe the African HIV pandemic as a genocide, with women and children becoming the frontline victims, Annie Lennox set out to try and do something about it.

Jarvis Cocker Beatboxes For Anti-Knives Campaign

Former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker joined former Sugababe Mutya Buena on stage in London earlier this week in aid of an anti-knife campaign.

The concert featured musicians performing their songs accompanied only by a beatbox orchestra, and was held at the Southbank Centre in Lambeth – a borough that has been the scene of two teenage deaths in violent attacks in 2008 from a total of 28 across the capital.

The gig – which also featured Vanessa Carlton – was organized by beatbox artist Shlomo, who hoped that the show would inspire young adults to find an alternative to knife crime.

Annie Lennox Sings For World AIDS Day

Today, December 1, is World AIDS Day – and also the first anniversary of Annie Lennox’s SING Campaign, and the star has launched a host of new additions to the SING website to celebrate.

Among the additions are a new Timeline that plots the progress of the campaign since its launch, and an Advent calendar which will unlock a new window every day through December that features either SING video’s, SING Image’s or a special video message from Lennox. There is also a new Widget that can be downloaded for Facebook, Bebo, MySpace and other sites, as well as a special SING Campaign YouTube site. Lennox is also writing a column in today’s issue of Britain’s The Sun newspaper about her work with SING.

Children In Need Concert Makes History

British broadcasters Terry Wogan, Tess Daly, and Fearne Cotton hosted the annual BBC Children in Need charity concert on Friday, November 14.

The epic seven hour show featured performances from the Sugababes, Boyzone, Leon Jackson, McFly, the Stereophonics, John Barrowman, Il Divo, Jason Donovan Russell Watson, Alesha Dixon, Razorlight, Sharleen Spiteri and many others. Girls Aloud also made a special appearance, and there were surprise contributions from Ozzy Osbourne, Jack Black, Will Young, Richard Hammond, and Stevie Wonder. Take That donated £250,000 from their ticket sales and a recent Marks and Spencer modeling deal.

But perhaps the funniest highlights of the night came from a performance of Abba hits from six BBC newsreaders. The cast of Eastenders also took to the stage for a song and dance.

Sharleen Spiteri Gigs With Autistic Children

Scottish singer Sharleen Spiteri lent her support to Nordoff Robbins last week when she visited a school that integrates children with autism into classes and provides music therapy as part of their lessons.

The 41-year-old lead singer of Texas played a few tunes for children at Hopefield Primary in Bonnyrigg, Scotland, to raise awareness of music therapy in schools.

“It was great to do a song with the kids playing along on their drums, shakers and bells,” Spiteri told the Sunday Mail in the UK. "It ended up being a lot easier than some big gigs I’ve done where thousands of fans clap along out of time. That’s an absolute nightmare. Playing to a bunch of kids who were totally into the music was both satisfying and very humbling. But that’s the power of music. I was a total stranger but music brought us together.

Annie Lennox Sings Praises For Charity Work

Supermodel Naomi Campbell took to the runway on Wednesday for her 2008 Fashion For Relief charity catwalk show benefiting the White Ribbon Alliance.

Celebrity models who graced the catwalk included Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole, model Erin O’Connor, artist Tracey Emin, rock daughters Kimberley Stewart and Lizzie Jagger, the Sugababes, Cilla Black, and Olympic gold medalists Rebecca Adlington and Sarah Ayton.

The show – which took place at London’s Natural History Museum – was opened by the wife of British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, Sarah, and was watched by a star-studded audience that included Mischa Barton.

The ’Babes will headline a two day festival in Dagenham on Saturday night, and will be followed by classic rockers Status Quo on Sunday night. Also performing will be the Bay City Rollers and David Essex.

Celebs Sign Mercedes for 46664 Auction

There was a lot of action backstage at the 46664 Concert Honouring Nelson Mandela at 90 last Friday night. In addition to performing and giving interviews, celebrities were asked to sign a new Mercedes-Benz C350. Mercedes-Benz, a lead sponsor of the Mandela concert, then presented the vehicle to 46664, which will put it on the auction block.

Celebrities whose autographs now decorate the car include Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis, Queen and Paul Rodgers, Annie Lennox, Simple Minds, Peter Gabriel, the Sugababes, Razorlight, Jamelia, Zuccero, Geri Halliwell, Eddy Grant, the Soweto Gospel Choir, Quincy Jones, and Lewis Hamilton.

Earlier in the day, tennis legend and Mercedes-Benz brand ambassador Boris Becker – who is also a representative of the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation – took the vehicle to visit socially disadvantaged children in London. The children decorated the sedan with multi-colored handprints; they were also invited to attend the concert later that evening.

Hyde Park was transformed into a giant birthday bash Friday night as 46,664 people joined “birthday boy” Nelson Mandela and a stellar lineup of entertainers to raise funds and awareness for his 46664 charity.

It had been raining on and off all day in London, but the skies cleared just in time for the once-in-a-lifetime lineup of musicians and entertainers to take the stage in honor of Nelson Mandela’s 90th Birthday. The event was hosted by an enthusiastic Will Smith, and performers included Jivan Gasparyan, Razorlight, the cast of Into the ’Hoods, Sipho Mibuze, Leona Lewis, Zucchero, Suzanna Owiyo and D’Gary, Sugababes, Annie Lennox (who performed with the Agape Children’s Choir), Emmanual Jal, Vusi Mahlasela, Jamelia, Loyiso, Johnny Clegg, Joan Baez, Eddy Grant, Kurt Darren, Simple Minds, Brian May and Andrea Corr, Amy Winehouse, 9ice and Bebe Cool, Josh Groban, Amaral, and Queen and Paul Rodgers. The renowned Soweto Gospel Choir accompanied many of the acts. Additional entertainers who introduced the musical acts included Quincy Jones, Lewis Hamilton, Geri Halliwell, Peter Gabriel, Stephen Fry, and Jerry Dammers.

After Jivan Gasparyan opened the show with an instrumental piece to accompany a moving series of photographs of Mandela, Will Smith took to the stage with his wife Jada and announced, “The party starts now.” An energizing performance by Razorlight set the tone for the rest of the evening.
