The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) will celebrate its 20th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party on February 26 at the newly re-designed West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish will host the gala event sponsored by Chopard, Neuro and Wells Fargo. This year celebrity chef Cat Cora will prepare a special menu to be served to guests seated to watch a live telecast of the 84th Academy Awards. Following dinner, Grammy nominated Foster the People will take the stage to perform.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party is the most highly visible and successful fund-raising event in Hollywood on Oscar night. Over the past 20 years, this annual event has raised millions of dollars thanks to the generosity of the Foundation’s supporters. The money raised is used to increase EJAF’s investments in its grant-making initiatives, which support HIV prevention and treatment programs, stigma reduction efforts, and direct services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, especially marginalized populations with special needs.

A number of celebrity-autographed MEDEA vodka bottles with custom messages will be auctioned off to raise funds for charities.

When Suzanna Bowling of the Times Square Chronicles saw a bottle of MEDEA Vodka, she called it “Times Square on a Bottle” and soon after Charities to Benefit was born. The new initiative will raise funds for the charities of choice of your favorite celebrities. Each bottle of MEDEA, with its own built-in “Times Square” digital read-out customized with a special message by a celebrity, will be autographed by the celebrity to be auctioned off to the celebrity’s charity of choice starting February 1st.

The talented Hugh Jackman was the first to sign with the proceeds of the sale of his autographed MEDEA bottle (programmed “HUGH JACKMAN ON BROADWAY” in the Blue LED lights on the bottle) to de donated to Nomad Two Worlds Foundation, supporting and promoting artists from indigenous and marginalized communities around the world. The bottles will be on display at Columbus Circle Wine at 1802 Broadway starting January 13 through Valentine’s Day, February 14.

The idea for Hugh Jackman’s new charity coffee shop, Laughing Man, was sparked by an African coffee farmer who inspired Jackman to promise to “do his bit”. Two years later, after several random pieces fell into place, Jackman is fulfilling that promise.

Planting coffee trees with a young man named Dukale, whose farm in Ethiopia was so productive he was able to hire on locals to help with the work, Jackman says he began to realize how one person’s labour could transform a community. Then a friend of Jackman’s mentioned he was planning to get back into the coffee business. An entrepreneurial New Yorker and an expert in tea and coffee soon joined the fray, and all the elements of Laughing Man and its ALL BE HAPPY motto came to fruition.

Laughing Man Worldwide sources companies and products that will create jobs and initiatives, and from these joint collaborations Laughing Man gives 100% of the profits to charity to provide education both locally and abroad. This holiday season, Pencils of Promise (PoP), a nonprofit whose mission is to build schools in the developing world, is launching their Made with Pencils campaign. The Made with Pencils campaign allows the world’s leading cultural curators and artistic minds to produce original works made from pencils that will be auctioned off to build new schools.

Beginning November 30, these one-of-a-kind creations will be auctioned on the Pencils of Promise website, so supporters can not only purchase an expression of iconic inspiration, but also play an active role in producing schools in the developing world. World Vision Ambassadors Hugh Jackman and Deborra lee Furness have applauded the Australian Federal Government’s dollar-matching scheme, saying it means people’s generous donations would help twice as many drought-stricken families in East Africa.

Speaking recently with World Vision CEO Tim Costello at the launch of their new social enterprise, Laughing Man, Mr Jackman and Ms Furness said the needs in Africa remained urgent and the Government’s incentive for Australians to donate was to be applauded.

“There are so many children in the world that will literally die from malnutrition if they don’t get help urgently,” Ms Furness said. “I love that the Australian Government is putting out the offer of matching every dollar anyone gives to help save some of these young lives.”

Hugh Jackman Urges Australians To Help East Africa

Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness are encouraging Australians to help those in urgent need of assistance in the Horn of Africa.

In a video message released today, World Vision Australia ambassadors Mr Jackman and Ms Furness said the extreme drought in the Horn of Africa was endangering the lives of some 13 million people, especially children.

“Children are the most vulnerable in times of crisis like this and in the worst hit areas of Ethiopia, Kenya and Somalia nearly half a million young people are at risk of malnutrition,” Ms Furness said. “Hugh and I have been in Ethiopia, and we’ve seen first-hand the World Vision staff who work on the ground. They’re at the crisis points now providing lifesaving food and water.”

The first round of celebrity charity auctions to benefit two schools damaged in the devastating Christchurch earthquake ended last night, with a new round starting today.

Stars 4 Kids has been set up to raise funds for two Christchurch schools, Shirley Primary and Avonside Girls’ High, both badly damaged in the February 22nd earthquake that killed over 160 people and left thousands without homes and jobs. The auction will be run through New Zealand’s #1 auction site – Trade Me – and can also be accessed by Australia.

The auction that just ended saw a signed photo of Johnny Depp go under the hammer for over NZ$500, a rugby league hat signed by Russell Crowe go for NZ$266, a book signed by British Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson sell for NZ$102, while DVDs and a hat signed by The Mentalist star Simon Baker brought in NZ$200. Hugh Jackman has vowed to give up coffee and sugar for a new charity campaign that encourages people to try and live on £1 a week to raise awareness of the 1.4 billion people around the world who live below the poverty line.

Millions of dollars were raised during a special celebrity charity telethon last night for victims of Australia’s devastating floods.

Stars such as Hugh Jackman, Simon Baker, Terri Irwin, Bindi Irwin, The Veronicas, Kasey Chambers, Tina Arena and X Factor Australia winner Altiyan Childs supported the telethon, hosted by Eddie McGuire, Leila McKinnon and Karl Stefanovic.

The two-hour telethon ran 90 minutes overtime, with phone lines crashing after a few minutes. This didn’t stop over $11 million being donated during the program.

Money from the auction will go to the Summit School community, which aims to help children with special needs develop the tools necessary to achieve success. Students acquire the skills to optimize potential in higher education, job placements, and in their interpersonal relationships.
