Elton John To Host Annual Oscar Viewing Party For Charity

The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) will celebrate its 20th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party on February 26 at the newly re-designed West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish will host the gala event sponsored by Chopard, Neuro and Wells Fargo. This year celebrity chef Cat Cora will prepare a special menu to be served to guests seated to watch a live telecast of the 84th Academy Awards. Following dinner, Grammy nominated Foster the People will take the stage to perform.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party is the most highly visible and successful fund-raising event in Hollywood on Oscar night. Over the past 20 years, this annual event has raised millions of dollars thanks to the generosity of the Foundation’s supporters. The money raised is used to increase EJAF’s investments in its grant-making initiatives, which support HIV prevention and treatment programs, stigma reduction efforts, and direct services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, especially marginalized populations with special needs.

The annual amfAR Cinema Against AIDS Gala will hit Cannes tomorrow, May 19, with some very special guests.

Janet Jackson, Brooke Shields, Gwen Stefani, Michelle Yeoh, Milla Jovovich and Patrick Dempsey are expected to be among the guests during the event at the 64th annual Cannes International Film Festival. The annual star-studded event at the Hotel Du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, will include a formal dinner and a world-renowned live auction, all to benefit amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research. As in previous years, Harvey Weinstein will recruit talent from the room to help with the live auction.

Muhammad Ali’s annual celebrity charity Fight Night is to return to Arizona this month.

Celebrity Fight Night XVII will be hosted by Grammy Award-winning superstar of country music Reba McEntire, who is returning for her sixth time as emcee. The black tie event will begin with cocktails and a silent auction with dinner, an exciting live auction and entertainment to follow. Children Mending Hearts (CMH), a national charity organization based in Los Angeles, will join 12 Las Vegas-based child advocacy groups to host its third installment of the traveling workshop, Please Mr. President, in Las Vegas, NV on Saturday, September 25th.

Jude Law To Host 2010 Peace One Day Concert In Paris

Peace Day 2010 will be marked globally on September 21, and a special concert will be held in Paris in the days leading up to the event.

Peace One Day will hold its annual concert at Le Zénith in Paris on September 17. Hosted by Jude Law and Sharon Stone, the concert will feature Patti Smith and Youssou N’Dour, as well as Charlie Winston, Ayo and Vanessa Paradis.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has announced that Golden Globe Award-winning actress and producer Drew Barrymore will receive the Vanguard Award, and Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Wanda Sykes will receive the Stephen F. Kolzak Award at the 21st Annual GLAAD Media Awards on April 17 at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza.

The GLAAD Media Awards elevate and promote fair, accurate and inclusive stories of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues, people and allies that have increased awareness, understanding and respect for the lives of LGBT people. Actress Drew Barrymore will receive the Vanguard Award which is presented to media professionals who have increased the visibility and understanding of the LGBT community. Natasha Richardson To Be Remembered At Charity Gala

The American Foundation for AIDS Research (amFAR) will hold a special gala in New York on February 10 in memory of actress Natasha Richardson, a trustee of the organization who died in a skiing accident last year.

The event will also honor Elton John and his partner, David Furnish, as well as Yves Carcelle. Among the leadership committee are Liam Neeson, Vanessa Redgrave, Joely Richardson, Sharon Stone, Stanley Tucci and Kenneth Cole. Elton John Warns Complacent Teens About Unsafe Sex

At a gala for his AIDS charity on November 16, Elton John said that young people are putting themselves in danger of getting HIV by engaging in unsafe sex. He warned that the latest generation is “complacent” about the risk of getting the virus.

He said that even though AIDS is not a new disease, higher rates of HIV infection are being seen in African American women, the rural south and in the gay community.

Speaking to Radio 1’s Newsbeat, the singer said, “We are finding that too many young people are not listening to what we are saying. I’m afraid people do get a little complacent about the disease by going out and having unsafe sex. It’s a cyclical thing. Every ten years a new generation comes along and you have to re-educate them.”
