Pamela Anderson Writes To Royal Family In Denmark About Fur

Pamela Anderson has just sent a letter on PETA’s behalf to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark over the royal family’s use of fur.

In the letter, Anderson – who heard that the Royal family gets their fur from a “trusted source” – respectfully tells Her Majesty that fur production is cruel worldwide and encourages her to join public figures such as Michelle Obama and Carla Bruni-Sarkozy in going fur-free.

“I had the great pleasure of visiting your beautiful country this month and was thrilled to hear from my friends at PETA that Denmark banned cruel fox-fur farms not long ago,” writes Pam in the letter. "During my visit, I learned that the royal family gets its fur from a “trusted source.” May I ask, who is the supplier? Undercover investigations into fur farms have shown cruelty to animals across the board, from Denmark to the United States. Most fur comes from China, where animals – including dogs and cats – are bludgeoned and even skinned alive for their fur, as seen in this short video. Minister Eva Kjer Hansen of Denmark stated, “Mink breeders break animal welfare rules. And that is unacceptable.” Animals trapped in the wild are no better off: Many suffer for hours and even chew off their own limbs to escape.

Amy Winehouse Provides Music For Charity Film

The YouTube channel dedicated to The Global Fund’s Born HIV Free campaign, which was launched seven weeks ago, has already been seen by more than 11 million viewers. The channel features an exceptional animation film called “Baby in the Sky”, created by the design team Les Bonzoms and with music of Amy Winehouse.

“The purpose of the Born HIV Free campaign is to encourage millions of people to support The Global Fund so we can finally put an end to the tragedy of 430,000 babies being born HIV-positive every year, when we have the means and the expertise to prevent this.” says Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, Global Ambassador for the protection of mothers and children against AIDS. “Hopefully this beautiful film will reach a wide audience because of its creative ingenuity, and inspire millions of people to support The Global Fund so we can finally put an end to this terrible injustice.”

“Baby in the Sky” is a highly creative and imaginative animated film that conveys the beauty of life ahead for an unborn child. The film artistically portrays an imaginary journey in a world full of adventurous landscapes and fantastic creatures. It ends with a call from Carla Bruni-Sarkozy for an HIV-free generation in which she says “Life is a beautiful journey. Don’t let AIDS kill it.”

Carla Bruni Speaks Up For AIDS

France’s first lady Carla Bruni has vowed to speak up more for AIDS sufferers following a visit to Africa earlier this year.

The singer made a trip to Burkina Faso in West Africa in February, and was traumatized by what she saw.

“The fact is that even though treatment is now available, AIDS/HIV is so stigmatized that women are afraid to get help,” said the spokeswoman for the Global Fund. “What I can’t stand is that people can be treated, mothers can protect their children from AIDS, but they are too scared of the disease – and the fear of the disease is what I can fight.”

Nelson Mandela's 91st Celebrated In Style

A galaxy of stars turned out to celebrate Nelson Mandela’s 91st birthday in New York during the weekend, with proceeds going to one of the South African legend’s charities.

Bruce Springsteen, Alicia Keys, Stevie Wonder and many more appeared at the Radio City Music Hall on Saturday, July 19, with money raised going to 46664, Mandela’s campaign to help raise Global awareness of AIDS/HIV. 46664 aims to highlight the emergency of AIDS/HIV through unique live events and music related initiatives.

Mandela himself was unable to attend the event, but did send a video message in which he said “It is on your hands to create a better world for all who live in it.” President Barack Obama also appeared via video, saying that Mandela’s life “teaches us that the impossible can be done, but only if people have the courage to make change happen.”

Carla Bruni Protests For Aung San Suu Kyi

France’s first lady, Carla Bruni, has written an open letter calling for Burma’s junta to free the country’s opposition leader, Aung San Suu Kyi.

Under house arrest in Burma for nearly 13 of the past 19 years for her pro-democratic and human rights campaigning, Suu Kyi allegedly violated the terms of her house arrest by allowing a man into her home after he swam across a lake to her property. As a consequence, she is now on trial in Rangoon and faces up to five years imprisonment if found guilty.

Ms Bruni fears that, due to recent reports that Suu Kyi’s health is poor, imprisonment could be the end for her. However, the military opened up her trial last Wednesday to reporters and diplomats, and Associated Press reports that she seems to be doing well according to Joselito Jacinto, a diplomat from the Philippine Embassy: “We saw Aung San Suu Kyi, and she appeared very strong. She sat listening intently and alertly to what was going on. She exuded a type of aura which can be described as moving, quite awe-inspiring.”

Carla Bruni Visits Burkina Faso

Carla Bruni – Sarcozy, the French First Lady, visited one of the poorest countries in the world last week as a Global Ambassador for Protection of Mothers and Children Against AIDS – Burkina Faso in West Africa.

A year after her marriage to President Nicolas Sarkozy brought her into the role of First Lady, Bruni had said she had decided to “do something useful,” signing on with the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria last December as its first formal celebrity envoy.

In the past year, Bruni’s approval ratings have risen to more than double those of her husband the President. After the initial condemnation by the French, who criticized the public and glitzy nature of their romance, things have turned in her favor.

Carla Bruni Raises AIDS Awareness

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, the French First Lady and singer, will travel to Burkina Faso to visit Global Fund-supported Aids programs in Burkina Faso on what will be her first official trip as a Global Ambassador for the Protection of Mothers and Children against AIDS.

According to the Joint United Nations Programme HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), approximately 130,000 people are living with the disease in Burkina Faso, of which slightly less than half are women. Approximately 10,000 children in the country are estimated to be living with the HIV virus or AIDS.

Burkina Faso managed to bring down HIV infections from 7.4% in 1997 to 2% in 2005 according to a UN report published in 2008.

During a ceremony in Paris, France’s first lady Carla Bruni-Sarkozy donated €238,000 (US$330,000) — the total profit from her newly released album — to children’s charities in Haiti.

Regarding the purpose of her donation, the First Lady was simple in her remarks: “I’m pleased that music can be used for this.”
