On Friday, April 29, Co-Chairs Nancy Davis and Tommy Hilfiger welcomed guests to the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza for the 18th Annual Race to Erase MS. The event raised more than $2 million to benefit the Nancy Davis Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis.

More than 900 communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and a host of celebrities will take part this weekend in March for Babies, the premier fundraising event for the March Of Dimes.

March for Babies supports cutting-edge research and community-based programs that help moms have full-term, healthy babies. March for Babies has been held annually since 1970, and the event has raised a combined total of $1.8 billion to help all babies get a healthy start in life. The goal for this year’s event is to raise more than $106 million.

“Funds raised in March for Babies not only support our efforts to give all babies a healthy start in life, we fund programs that bring comfort and information to families of babies born too sick or soon,” said Dr. Jennifer L. Howse, president of the March of Dimes. “More than 7 million people, including celebrities, sports stars, and families of babies born sick or prematurely are involved in March for Babies as volunteers, sponsors and participants. Stars Host LA Mission End Of Summer Charity Party

Children are the most tragic victims of homelessness. They often suffer the indignities of living out of a car or in temporary housing – longing for some normalcy. The Los Angeles Mission reaches out to the younger homeless population with its End of Summer Block Party, designed as a way for kids to play, have fun, win prizes and forget about their circumstances – if for only a day.

The End of Summer Block party was held Saturday on the main street of Skid Row, Fifth Street, where decorations, tents and inflatable play areas were set up. Besides the giant slide, there was a dunk tank, face painting, crafts, games and of course backpacks full of school supplies.

“There were smiles everywhere,” said Herb Smith, President of the Los Angeles Mission. “This was a great day, to see the kids and their parents having fun. Our volunteers really enjoy the Block Party because of the kids.” Smith continued, “Children are very important to us here at the Mission. We believe that taking advantage of educational opportunities will help break the cycle of poverty. We believe it is vital to give these kids every opportunity for educational achievement.”

Bill Murray To Host Annual Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament

On March 25 and 26, the Murray Bros are hosting the 10th Annual Murray Bros. Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament. The tournament will be held at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida, where the Murray Bros. Caddyshack restaurant is located.

Outside of the golf tournament, dinners and lunches will be served on both days. A silent auction will be held on Friday along with the pairings draw party. On Saturday, after the tournament has ended, an awards party will be held where Bill Murray and various others will entertain on stage throughout the night.

Actor Bill Murray is once again behind the annual Murray Brothers Caddyshack Charity Golf Tournament, this year to raise money for Guardian Catholic Schools – a non-profit organization located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Bill Murray and his five brothers – Andy, Brian, Ed, Joel, and John – began the annual tournament eight years ago at the launching of their Caddyshack Restaurant at the World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Florida. Since then they have raised millions of dollars for charity.

An avid golfer, Murray worked alongside his brothers as a caddy to fund his high school tuition. Many of their antics showed up later in the Caddyshack movie.

A pledge to walk one of the biggest man-made structures in the world, a successful celebrity auction, a tour of far away places, and a donation of time and energy were just some of the ways celebrities gave to the poor, the sick, and those unable to spend time with their families this Christmas.

Singer Olivia Newton-John met with the founders of Welsh breast cancer charity In The Pink over Christmas to discuss fund raising opportunities, and revealed her plans to walk the length of the Great Wall of China in April. Proceeds from the walk will go to the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Centre in Australia, and the 59-year-old breast cancer survivor will also donate items to In The Pink to auction later in the year.

Meanwhile, socialite Kathy Hilton organized a charity auction over Christmas, featuring a selection of items donated by some of her famous friends. Mel Gibson’s jeans, Tom Cruise’s sunglasses, and an Ocean’s Thirteen script signed by the movie’s stars, including George Clooney and Brad Pitt, raised money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
