Stars Remember Dan Wheldon With Charity Auction

On October 16, 2011, motor racing lost one of its favorite sons when Dan Wheldon was involved in a fatal crash. Now a bunch of celebrities and racing legends have come together for a special charity auction to raise money for the Dan Wheldon Family Trust Fund.

Among the items going under the hammer are a Pink Floyd commemorative disc and drum sticks signed by Nick Mason, a guitar signed by 3 Doors Down, a drivers fire suit signed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr., a helmet worn and signed by Juan Pablo Montoya, a signed stock car model from Danica Patrick and more.

The VH1 Save The Music Foundation has announced its 2012 Ambassador Class, dedicated to restoring instrumental music education programs in our nation’s public schools.

Since 1997, The VH1 Save The Music Foundation has provided over 1.8 million children with the gift of a complete education that includes music. The Foundation’s Ambassador Program, comprised of prominent musicians, athletes and stars of the film world who have committed to being the Foundation’s most powerful advocates and fundraisers, have helped raise over 1 million dollars to support the Foundation’s cause. Joining Alumni Ambassadors like Beyonce, Colbie Caillat, Jamie Foxx, Natasha Bedingfield and Gavin DeGraw, the 2012 VH1 Save The Music Foundation Ambassador class includes: Katy Perry, Matthew Morrison, Lupe Fiasco, Gavin Rossdale, Jordin Sparks, Vanessa Carlton, AJ McLean and Chris Daughtry.

Throughout the year, the Ambassador Class will continue to raise awareness for The VH1 Save The Music Foundation and deliver key messages about the importance of music education in a young person’s life. They will help increase profits to further the Foundation’s goal of providing instrumental music education programs in U.S. public elementary and middle schools. Music Therapy Hits A Chord With Celebrities

For patients battling cancer, music therapy can strike the right chord. Clear Channel Radio and City of Hope will hit all the high notes with the launch of Play For Life, a national campaign to raise funds to support City of Hope’s lifesaving cancer research and music therapy programs.

Guitar Maker Designs Pens For 3 Doors Down Charity

For over twenty five years, Dwight Maddox has created incredible custom made guitars for members of Blind Melon, L7, FREEKBASS, R.L. Burnside, Zac Brown Band, Train and 3 Doors Down just to name a few.

He is now starting a new project with Ray Scheuring, Bret Michaels’ bass player. Each guitar is made from raw cut wood, hand picked by Dwight, and crafted with precision. He consults with each artist about what they want their guitar to look like, and pays attention to every detail requested. Several artists have commented on how their guitar is more than just a guitar, it’s a piece of art.

Dwight Maddox is a man of many talents. Not only has he been making exquisite handmade custom guitars, he has embarked upon something that could help thousands of youths get food, shelter, and medical attention. Dwight is taking the scrap wood from each of the guitars he creates to make one of a kind hand made ink pens. Each pen set that is made comes with a certificate signed by Dwight, and the artist he’s made the guitar for. Each item sold will benefit the Better Life Foundation.

Staind Singer Launches Charity

Aaron Lewis, singer for rockers Staind, has launched a charity initiative to reopen his daughter’s elementary school in Massachusetts, which was shut down due to budget cutbacks.

Along with his wife, the musician has established the Takes a Community Foundation, which aims to funds in support of the Community Education Center in Worthington, MA. Funds raised will help the school’s doors open and provide a seamless transition from a district run facility to a community school.

“When I reopen it we’re going to do preschool through sixth grade and we’re not turning anybody away,” Lewis told Billboard magazine. “This town depends on the school. We have no commerce… We have a stoplight with a country store, and that’s literally it. It’s a town of 1,200 people and the only thing we have is the elementary school.”

Tracy Lawrence To Play Final Annual Charity Concert

Country singer Tracy Lawrence will play his final annual charity Homecoming Concert on Saturday, June 6, at Foreman Memorial Stadium, in Foreman, Arkansas.

Joining Lawrence for the concert, which has raised more than $1,000,000 over the last 15 years, will be Tracy Byrd, Richie McDonald, Neal McCoy, Clay Walker, 3 Doors Down and Zona Jones.

“We’ve had a great time putting on the Homecoming Concerts and the return, to actually see how our efforts have contributed to the strength and education of a new generation, has been so gratifying,” said Lawrence. “Unfortunately, we’ve run our course with this particular event and the production costs have moved us to seek out other alternatives that will benefit the community in the long run. We’re going to regroup to explore more cost-effective ways to raise funds for the kids.”

Nashville To Rock For Africa

Some of country music’s biggest stars will appear at a concert in Nashville tomorrow, April 22, to raise funds for education in Africa.

Keith Urban, Faith Hill, Dierks Bentley, Brad Arnold from 3 Doors Down, and Big Kenny will join Damien Horne, Ashley Cleveland, Third Day, Jars Of Clay and many more at the Nashville4Africa concert, to be held at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center.

Proceeds from the event will go towards the building of two new schools in Africa and funding additional educational efforts.

3 Doors Down Play Gig For A Better Life

Rockers 3 Doors Down performed a charity gig at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Biloxi, Mississippi, on Saturday night, December 6, to raise money for their Better Life Foundation.

The show marked the fifth time the Jackson County-based band – whose hits include Kryptonite – has held the annual concert, with proceeds going to Mississippi victims of Hurricane Katrina.

“Well it’s always great to be back on the coast and especially during the holiday season, and this is our fifth event for the foundation,” said guitarist Matt Roberts. “We’re excited to be, here to get it done and have a great show tonight.”

Jerry Lewis MDA Telethon Still Going Strong

If ever there was a main event in the name of charity it would be the Jerry Lewis Muscular Dystrophy Telethon.

Year after year, millions of Americans tune in to watch the all-day event. This year’s line up of celebrity hosts for the telethon included Jann Carl, Tom Bergeron, and Alison Sweeney among other esteemed personalities, with performances by Céline Dion, 3 Doors Down, Kid Rock and Reba McEntire. Running 21-1/2 hours, the MDA telethon began at 9 p.m. EDT on Sunday, Aug. 31 and continued through the evening of Labor Day, with about $65 million raised during the run.

A special plea was also made for MDA-registered families forced to leave their homes because of the hurricane, which made landfall Monday in Louisiana.
