This weekend marks ten years since the 9/11 terror attacks, and celebrities are joining the rest of the world in commemorating the anniversary.

Flight 93 National Memorial
Bill Clinton will join George W. Bush, Laura Bush and Sarah McLachlan at the September 10 dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. The memorial service will take place at the newly-opened memorial plaza surrounding the site where Flight 93 crashed at 10:03 a.m. on September 11, 2001. President Obama is expected to visit the Flight 93 National Memorial later that day.

George W. Bush To Attend Flight 93 Memorial

The National Park Service and the National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, announced today that President George W. Bush and Vice President Joe Biden will speak at the September 10 dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

President Bush and Vice President Biden will join Flight 93 family members and friends, special guests and dignitaries including former First Lady Laura Bush, Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar, National Park Service Director Jon Jarvis, and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett, among others. Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan will perform at the ceremony.

Above all, the anniversary of 9/11 is a day to remember those we lost, and to stand with their families and loved ones. The Flight 93 Memorial dedication event will pay tribute to the lives of those who were taken from us on 9/11, and reaffirm that their legacy is a safer, stronger, and resilient America. As we remember those who were lost on 9/11, we also honor all victims of terrorism, including those who have been targeted by al Qaeda and other groups around the globe.

The National Park Foundation, the official charity of America’s national parks, has announced that Grammy-award winning singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan will perform at the dedication ceremony of the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania on Saturday, September 10, 2011.

The event will also welcome dignitaries, special guests, and Flight 93 family members and friends. A complete list of speakers and performers will be announced shortly. Iggy Pop Wants Norway To Stop Seal Product Imports

Days before his performance in Bodø, Norway, rock icon Iggy Pop has sent an urgent letter on PETA’s behalf to Jonas Gahr Støre, Norway’s minister of foreign affairs, calling on Norway to make its World Trade Organization (WTO) case against the European Union’s ban on seal imports open to the public.

As Iggy explains in the letter, just one company in Norway purchases close to 80 percent of Canadian seal pelts, and this company has received funding from the Norwegian government for years.

Iggy, who recently starred in a PETA ad against the Canadian seal slaughter, joins music legends Joan Jett and Sarah McLachlan in requesting that the hearing and submissions be open so that the public will be fully informed and better able to submit comments to the WTO panel deciding the case.

Following the World Trade Organization’s decision to formally hear Norway’s and Canada’s case against the European Union’s ban on seal product imports, rock icon Joan Jett has personally delivered an urgent letter on PETA’s behalf to Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Jonas Gahr Støre calling on Norway to make the hearing and submissions open to the public.

Just one company in Norway purchases close to 80 percent of Canadian seal pelts, and this company has received funding for years from the Norwegian government. Jett joins Canadians Pamela Anderson and Sarah McLachlan in requesting that the hearing and submissions be made public.

“In the wake of the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) decision to formally hear Norway and Canada’s case against the E.U.’s ban on seal imports, I urge you to please open up hearings to the public and make all submissions publicly available when they are filed,” writes Joan Jett. "Norway buys most seal pelts from Canada, then ships them for sale in countries that aren’t aware of the cruelty. Just one Norwegian company purchases close to 80 percent of the pelts. Norwegian citizens deserve to know that their government has provided significant financial assistance to this company for years, which indirectly helps prop up Canada’s cruel baby-seal slaughter. For a country so compassionate that it would ban fur from fashion shows, supporting Canada’s seal massacre just seems ridiculous.

Sarah McLachlan To Perform At Formula 1 Charity Ball

Sarah McLachlan will perform at a special charity ball as part of next month’s Formula 1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The singer will perform at the United Arab Emirates event on November 13 to benefit the Naked Heart Foundation, an organization that provides “a safe and inspiring environment for underprivileged children to play in, particularly in areas such as Russia where play facilities are not state-funded. Through play, children develop their imaginations, their creativity, become physically stronger and more confident and resilient.”

A number of stars are expected to attend the event, with last year’s ball attracting Janet Jackson, Neve Campbell, Marissa Tomei and Jeremy Irons.

Lilith Fair 2010 has wrapped up its North American tour, raising a massive $500,000 for charity.

The all-women concert tour established by Sarah McLachlan and featuring Mary J. Blige, Emmylou Harris and Miranda Lambert finished its 23-city tour and now has its sights set on Australia.

“I have a moral and social responsibility as a human being to give back what I can,” said Sarah. “Lilith 2010 was an amazing experience for me on so many levels. GEMS (Girls Educational & Mentoring Services) has been chosen as the New York woman’s charity in The Lilith Fair “Choose Your Charity” campaign.

GEMS, the nation’s largest organization serving commercially sexually exploited and domestically trafficked girls and young women ages 12-21, will be honored on-site at the July 31 New York area date by Lilith founder, Sarah McLachlan.

In addition to receiving the donation, GEMS will have a table at Lilith Fair to distribute information and materials on the issues of commercial sexual exploitation and domestic trafficking.

The Downtown Women’s Center (DWC), a non-profit that provides permanent housing and supportive services for homeless women on LA’s Skid Row, was selected by Lilith Fair founder Sarah McLachlan as the local charity for the music festival’s Los Angeles area stop.

At a press conference before the July 10th concert at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre, McLachlan and a number of the other female performers presented DWC with a check for $9,000.

William Shatner's Charity Horse Show This Weekend

William Shatner will host his annual Hollywood Charity Horse Show at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center in Burbank this weekend, with musical entertainment to be provided by Sarah McLachlan.

Shatner has been hosting the charity horse shows for the last twenty years – inspired after he watched an exhibition by children who were so severely handicapped that some of them could not hold their head up, yet there they were going through intricate exercises on the back of a horse. The program was sponsored by Ahead With Horses, a therapeutic riding group for handicapped children. In 1990, Shatner hosted his first charity horse show, and the event has become a major fixture on the charity calendar.

This year’s event – on May 1 – will benefit AHEAD with Horses, Camp Max Straus, Starlight Children’s Foundation, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Hollenbeck Police Activities League, The Painted Turtle and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Female Stars Line Up For Charity On Lilith Fair Tour

Sarah McLachlan’s Lilith Fair concert tour has been finalized, with artists such as Selena Gomez, Rihanna, Sheryl Crow, Erykah Badu, Kelly Clarkson and Missy Higgins joining the bill at selected shows.

The tour will raise funds for women’s charities in each city it visits, and organizers have launched Choose Your Charity on Facebook to help decide the beneficiaries. According to the organizers: "By becoming a fan of the Lilith Facebook page, users can participate in the Lilith-Involver Choose Your Charity campaign, where they’ll have the chance to vote on the pre-selected local women’s charities in their cities.

“The first round of voting goes until 11:59 PM PST on Monday, May 3, 2010. At that time, the top five charities from each city will move on to a second round of voting beginning at 10:00 AM PST on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 and ending at 11:59 PM PST on May 31, 2010. The Lilith founders—Sarah McLachlan, Terry McBride, Dan Fraser and Marty Diamond—will hand pick the local charity winners from the top three charities with the most votes in each city. Dave Stewart Donates Suit To Charity Auction

Musician Dave Stewart has donated the suit he wore when he accepted the Awards for Outstanding Contribution to British Music for Eurythmics (Silver Clefs Award by the Nordoff Robbins Foundation) in 2000 to the world’s leading Eurythmics fan site for a charity competition.

Singers Sheryl Crow and Sting performed last Thursday in Toronto at the One Night Live benefit to support a new health program at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre.

Sunnybrook is a world leader in perinatal and gynaecological research and care, particularly in high risk pregnancies, and houses a multiple birth clinic that specializes in caring for women carrying more than one baby at a time. Their state-of-the-art, 150,000-square-foot centre for the High Risk Mothers & Babies Program is still being expanded in order to accommodate hundreds more babies each year.

In an interview with the Globe and Mail, Sting explained why he decided to perform in the fundraiser: “I did it because Sheryl was doing it.” Crow added, “And I did it because Sting was doing it.”

Annie Lennox SINGS In Norway

Singer Annie Lennox was in Norway last week to host a special event that aimed to raise money and awareness for the SING Campaign against AIDS.

The singer performed in Oslo on May 15 at an event in which guests were required to make a minimum donation of NOK 1,000 to the SING Campaign in order to redeem an invite.
