Willow Foundation To Honor Football Legends In London

Ian Wright, Tony Adams, Sir Trevor Brooking, Jimmy Greaves, George Cohen and Rodney Marsh are among the London Football Legends who will be at this month’s charity dinner in aid of the Willow Foundation.

The greatest football legends from the Premier League’s London teams will be joined by their most enthusiastic fans at the London Football Legends Dinner & Awards on Thursday February 28 at Park Plaza Riverbank, London.

Three awards will be made on a great night for fans to mix with their football idols. Awards for Best Goalscorer, Lifetime Achievement and the Willow Award (for services outside the game) include 6 nominees for the first two awards – including Didier Drogba and Jimmy Greaves for Best Goalscorer and Sir Trevor Brooking and Frank McLintock for Lifetime Achievement. The event will be hosted by Jim Rosenthal and Sky Sports presenter, Olivia Godfrey.

Celebrities Donate Artworks To Stars On Canvas Auction

A huge number of celebrities have contributed to Stars On Canvas 2012, to raise much needed funds for the Willow Foundation.

Stars on Canvas is a colourful and imaginative art project created by hundreds of well-known names from the worlds of art, illustration, sport, music and entertainment. Collectively, the canvases can be seen as an exploration of modern culture – how we come to revere a diverse range of stars for their particular talents, skills and personalities, and sometimes simply for their fame.

All canvases will be sold online in aid of national charity, the Willow Foundation, and exhibited at Maddox Arts – a London based gallery which has kindly donated its gallery space. The eBay auction will finish on the penultimate day of the public exhibition.

Arsenal Players Save The Children In China

As part of Arsenal's pre-season tour to Asia, Abou Diaby and Johan Djourou visited the Club’s education project in partnership with Save the Children in Beijing last week.

The Club, through The Arsenal Foundation, has made a donation of £300,000 to Save the Children over three years, helping to dramatically improve the quality of education for disadvantaged children aged six to 15, in some of Beijing’s most under-resourced schools.

Arsenal FC Supports Education Project In China

Premiership League giants Arsenal FC will be supporting a new education project in China, as the club prepares for its pre-season tour of the Far East in July.

The Arsenal Foundation will make a donation of £300,000 over the next three years, helping to dramatically improve the quality of education for disadvantaged children aged 6 to 15 in some of Beijing’s most under-resourced schools.

Together, Save the Children and Arsenal will train 200 teachers and 20 head teachers so that they have the necessary skills to plan and deliver a high-quality education for students in China’s curriculum.

Ten Prince's Trust 2012 Games Young Ambassadors met the British Prime Minister David Cameron at a reception held at 10 Downing Street recently.

The Prince’s Trust 2012 Games Young Ambassadors were invited to the Downing Street reception, which was held ahead of the Laureus World Sports Awards in London.

Also at the reception were some of the world’s most prestigious sporting figures, including world number one tennis player Novak Djokovic, boxing legend Lennox Lewis, 2011 Tour de France winner Cadel Evans, Formula 1 driver David Coulthard and Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Run With Arsenal And Save The Children

A ten-lap fun run around the outside of the Arsenal home ground of Emirates Stadium will raise money to help give the world’s poorest children a better start in life.

Entry to the main race is £15 and due to the limited number of spaces available, all runners are encouraged to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. The main race is open to anyone aged 15 or over (as of 31 March 2012). Following the success of last year’s event, there will also be two special junior races for under-14s on the day.

Any runner that manages to raise over £500 for the charity will be deemed a ‘Top Gunner’ and will receive a special gold running number on race day. All runners will receive weekly newsletters featuring useful training and fundraising advice, and a full event guide ahead of race day.

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as an ambassador for Save the Children.

On his first day as a global ambassador, Ronaldo presented a charity auction in aid of the charity’s newborn and child survival campaign in Egypt.

“I’m so proud to support Save the Children. I’m delighted at the funds raised during tonight’s auction and at the support of so many players from across so many different world-class teams in making it such a success,” he said. “This is the most important thing of tonight. Hope it’ll go a long way in stopping needless child deaths.”

Arsenal To Play For Charity This Weekend

Arsenal Football Club has announced it is dedicating its Premier League match against Fulham this Saturday, 26th November (kick-off 5.30pm), to its Global Charity Partner, Save the Children.

The partnership with Save the Children is aimed at helping the poorest children get a better start in life and give them the chance to grow and fulfil their potential.

As part of the day, players will be donating a day’s wages along with many Arsenal staff to help raise funds for the charity. Supporters are also encouraged to get involved and give what they can to contribute to the partnership which will help to support a range of education projects in the UK and overseas.

Stars Donate Artworks To Celebrity Charity Auction For Willow Foundation

A whole bunch of stars – including Ricky Gervais, Roger Daltrey, Joanna Lumley and Wayne Rooney – have donated signed canvases to a special celebrity charity auction in the UK.

The Willow Foundation and British artist, Julie-Anne Gilburt, have teamed up to create an exhibition of 20×20 cm canvases, each created by a different star. Well known faces from the worlds of sport, art, design, fashion, music and entertainment have drawn on their artistic skills in aid of the charity.

Jenson Button Signs Cap For Charity Auction

Lynn Priory Rotary Club (UK) will host their tenth annual black tie dinner and auction gala on Friday, March 26 to benefit the diabetes team at Lynn’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital, who need help in getting essential equipment for those with consistent control problems on insulin therapy. 

Club spokesman Tony Williams said: “Having raised more than £98,000 in the last nine years, we are confident of breaking the £100,000 barrier this year!” 

Williams’ confidence is well founded, as the wide variety of items and opportunities up for auction are amazing.

Arsenal Players Get Cute And Fluffy For Charity

Top Arsenal players Cesc Fabregas, Theo Walcott, Andrey Arshavin and Bacary Sagna dressed up in furry animal costumes to raise money for sick children this week.

They dressed up as a lion, rabbit, shark and an owl to walk the streets and fundraise for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity (GOSH).

Club manager Arsene Wenger said, “The team and I have met some patients from Great Ormond Street Hospital on several occasions…and we’re all struck by the strength and courage they show in fighting their illnesses. We understand the importance of helping to improve the facilities at the hospital and we’re encouraging all Arsenal fans to help in whatever way we can.”

Cystic Fibrosis Sufferer Meets Football Heroes

A young cystic fibrosis sufferer from the UK named Becks had one wish – to meet the England football team. His dream recently came true at a England training session that was held at the Arsenal training ground – thanks to the Starlight Children's Foundation.

After watching the manager put the team through their paces, Becks had the chance to meet the players – all of whom signed his shirt – including footballing legends David Beckham, Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard and Jon Terry.

Becks suffers from cystic fibrosis, a genetic condition that lines the lungs and digestive system with a sticky mucus. Becks has to undergo twice-daily physiotherapy and nebulisers as well as taking a cocktail of pills with each meal. He also has to put up with long stints in hospital. Becks never complains and dreams of one day being a famous footballer.

Champions League Armbands Raise Charity Cash

This unique piece of sporting memorabilia could make the perfect Christmas gift and will raise money for two worthy causes – the Willow Foundation and the Steve Bernard Foundation.

The Willow Foundation was set up by Arsenal legend Bob Wilson and his wife, Megs, and provides special days for seriously ill 16 to 40 year olds throughout the UK. Arsenal players Gael Clichy, Manuel Almunia and Robin van Persie swapped footballs for paintbrushes when they met with world famous cartoonist Gerald Scarfe at Arsenal’s training ground earlier this month.

The unusual meeting took place so that players could share their ideas with Gerald and help design an Arsenal-themed Citroën C4 which will be raffled to raise money for Arsenal’s Charity of the Season, Teenage Cancer Trust.

The car, generously donated by Arsenal Football Club’s official car supplier, Citroën, will feature the design which will be personally created by Gerald with the help of the players. Gael, Robin and Manuel shared their thoughts and ideas with the cartoonist around Club culture, supporters and what they felt it meant to be part of the Club.

Arsenal Dedicates Match To Teenage Cancer Patients

Arsenal Football Club dedicated their Premier League match against Liverpool to their charity of the season, the Teenage Cancer Trust, on Sunday, December 21.

The charity received donations – equaling a day’s wages – from Arsenal players and support staff in an effort to help improve the lives of young people with cancer. They are encouraging fans to give what they can through the ‘Be a Gooner, Be a Giver’ Campaign with a goal is to raise $500,00 for the 2008/09 season.

Arsenal has also shot a short promotional film, ‘Do What I Say,’ which stars Arsenal players alongside teenagers with cancer. It was created and shot by the agency Brothers and Sisters and will appear on www.beagoonerbeagiver.org from 15 December until the dedicated match.
