Shaggy Rocks For Charity In Jamaica

Shaggy joined his friends Rik Rok and Macy Gray on stage in Jamaica to raise money for charity over the weekend.

The 40-year-old Jamaican singer – whose latest release, Intoxication, has just been nominated for a Grammy – appeared at Jamaica House in Kingston to raise money for the Bustamante Hospital for Children, a cause close to his heart.

“It takes one person to start a miracle,” he told the Jamaica Observer. "And when I saw the level of need [at the hospital], it was something that played on my emotions. I never saw [charity work] like this at the forefront of my future. But I am glad it is all happening because everything is a learning activity and I am becoming a better human in the process.

“There’s a certain amount of gratitude you feel when things turn out well in life. And this is just one of those times. You are raised a certain way, with certain morals, and as you go through life it is your duty to exercise those morals, especially when you look back and see that life has been good to you.”

The Bustamante Hospital for Children was established in 1963 and sees around 35,887 outpatients and 70,331 casualties every year.
