Q&A With Danny Boyle And Jonny Lee Miller For Charity

Film director Danny Boyle and Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch will take part in a special late night Q&A about their new stage production in aid of creative arts charity Dramatic Need on April 20.

For just £10, you can join the Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle and the play’s stars, Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller, for a spine-chilling late night Q&A as they lift the curtain on their radical, role-swapping reinterpretation of Mary Shelley’s classic novel. This is the only time all three will be discussing the project together.

Dramatic Need is a UK-registered charity that hosts creative arts workshops in underprivileged and rural communities in South Africa and Rwanda. The charity promotes creative expression as a tool for conflict resolution, social development, gender empowerment and the assimilation of health messages in underprivileged communities. Dramatic Need also provides art, music and film-making equipment to African schools. The charity has been particularly effective in encouraging young people to discuss and challenge the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.

Danny Boyle Supports Early Break Drugs Project

Oscar winning director Danny Boyle has become a Patron for the Early Break Drugs Project, which is based close to Boyle’s home town. Boyle is probably best known for his award winning films which include The Beach and more recently Slumdog Millionaire.

The Early Break Drugs Project offers advice and counselling to young people who are affected by drugs and alcohol aged 21 and under across Lancashire. At Early Break, young people who enter the service can discuss their issues in a safe, healthy and where necessary therapeutic environment, by making use of alternative therapies which include aromatherapy, auricular acupuncture, and Indian head massage.

Boyle grew up in Radcliffe, Lancashire and has always held the area close to his heart. Boyle made his directorial debut in 1995 with Shallow Grave, this was quickly followed by the cult classic Trainspotting in 1996. Trainspotting highlighted the issues surrounding drug addiction for young people in a non-patronising manner, and Boyle has stated that Early Break works in a similar way and it was this that impressed him the most about the Project.

Slumdog Makers Donate To Children's Charity

The makers of Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire have announced they will donate US$750,000 to a charity that will help children living in the slums of Mumbai.

The money will go to Plan to start a program aimed at providing healthcare and education to children in India. The organization, an international children’s aid charity, wishes to create a five-year program which will change the lives of children living in poverty.

“Having benefited so much from the hospitality of the people of Mumbai it is only right that some of the success of the movie be ploughed back into the city in areas where it is needed most and where it can make a real difference to some lives,” said director Danny Boyle, who has contributed to the well-being of the young actors in the film before. “Despite intimidating odds, extraordinary work is going on to help people break the cycle of poverty through education. We’re delighted that this initiative will add to that ongoing work.”

The award-winning blockbuster Slumdog Millionaire brought worldwide attention to the living conditions of the poorest children in India.

LTTS Exclusive: Inside A Night To Make A Difference with Host Michelle Vink

Look To The Stars’ lead host, Michelle Vink was on hand as a host of Leeza Gibbons’ A Night To Make A Difference Fundraiser on Oscar night. Read her story below:

“Without hope, life is just not worth living”…

Those were the words from Harvey Milk from the Oscar-winning movie, Milk. Despite the uncertain state of the economy and the lack of faith we keep hearing about on the news, there was an overwhelming resurgence of hopeful optimism at the Oscars this year. Winning storylines like Slumdog Millionaire and Milk captured that very essence.

Be A Character In Trainspotting Prequel For Charity

Author Irvine Welsh is offering a unique opportunity to appear in the prequel to one of his most popular novels.

The Scottish author is revisiting the early lives of the characters from Trainspotting – the book that became a major film directed by Danny Boyle and starring Ewan McGregor – and he is auctioning a part in the book to the highest bidder.

The 50-year-old writer is auctioning the unique prize to benefit Scottish Love in Action, a charity based in Scotland that cares for and supports destitute children in India by funding two projects in the South-East Indian state of Andhra Pradesh; a Home-cum-School in Tuni and a Home-cum-School in Hyderabad.

Danny Boyle Gives Back To Young Actors In India

British film director Danny Boyle is helping the children who featured in his new movie Slumdog Millionaire work their way out of poverty.

The movie – about a young man from the slums of Mumbai who appears on a game show and exceeds people’s expectations, raising the suspicions of the game show host and law enforcement – was filmed in India, with many of the young actors cast locally.

However, Boyle was horrified to learn about the terrible living conditions of the actors, and has set up trust funds for them for when they finish school to encourage them to continue their studies.
