Celebrities Donate Ties To A Good Cause

Looking for the perfect father’s day gift that benefits a good cause? Jack Nicholson, Patrick Dempsey and Jimmy Kimmel are just a few of the stars who have taken off their ties for a good cause.

In honor of its tenth anniversary, Career Gear, a nonprofit that assists disadvantaged men find and retain employment, will auction off the ties of some of the biggest style icons from the worlds of film, television, music and sports to raise money for sustaining its career counseling workshops and retention services that lead to quality-of-life improvements.

You can own the tie of Josh Brolin, who doffed the tie he wore to the W. premiere, Kevin Spacey, who signed his silver Armani, or John Waters, whose expressive tie reflects his creative sensibilities. Eric Bana, Matt Dillon, James Marsden, Christopher Meloni, Neil Patrick Harris and Tony Shalhoub have also loosened their collars in honor of Career Gear’s decade of helping men in need. Additionally, a full suit donated by professional hockey player and fashion enthusiast Sean Avery will be up for bid, as well as a selection of ties from André “3000” Benjamin’s clothing line, Benjamin Bixby.

The ten-day auction launches on June 5, with 100 percent of funds raised going directly to Career Gear.

The Alzheimer’s Association is currently auctioning off some very cool celebrity encounters.

Going under the hammer at Charity Folks right now are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities such as the chance to join Greg Kinnear or Dennis Quaid at the Bel Air Country Club for a round of golf, tickets to the LA premiere and after party of the new Star Trek movie starring Eric Bana, a guitar signed by the Jonas Brothers, and the chance to meet Mandy Moore backstage at one of her concerts.

The Alzheimer’s Association aims to eliminate Alzheimer’s disease through the advancement of research, as well as to provide and enhance care and support for all affected and reduce the risk of dementia through the promotion of brain health.

These are great items for a great cause, but you had better be quick because the auction ends very soon.

Eric Bana Reduces Carbon Emissions In New Film

Australian actor Eric Bana is set to do his bit for the environment by reducing pollution emissions on his new racing car movie.

The 40-year-old has joined with producers of the film and environmental group Climate Positive to offset carbon emissions from the cars in the film, titled Love The Beast.

“In making a film about the love of motorsport and cars we were mindful of the environmental message we were sending,” said producer Peter Hill. “We love cars but love the planet more, and wanted to ensure we made a film in the most environmentally friendly way possible. Offsetting the carbon emissions is one of the steps we took to minimize the impact on the environment.”

The film is being made in Australia, where environmental concerns are a hot topic. According to Reuters, the country is one of the highest per-capita polluters and the world’s biggest coal exporter – a fact that accounts for 1.5 percent of global carbon emissions.

Do you want to be an extra in a star-studded new movie and help charity at the same time? Well, here is your big break!

Universal Pictures, in association with The Improv Comedy Club, is presenting “A Night of Funny People” at the Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles on Tuesday, January 13. The show is a one-time-only comedy performance that will be filmed for use in Universal Pictures’ upcoming feature Funny People – from writer/director/producer Judd Apatow – and the film’s stars Adam Sandler, Seth Rogen, Leslie Mann, Eric Bana, Jonah Hill, Jason Schwartzman, RZA, Aubrey Plaza and Aziz Ansari will all be taking part in character.

“A Night of Funny People” will benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society and 826LA, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages six to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Tickets are $20 and are available through TicketMaster.

Funny People is released in theaters on July 31.
