Heroes actor Jimmy Jean-Louis was honored for his charity work in Haiti at the fourth annual Better World Awards in the weekend.

The Kiss The Stars gala was held at Clive Christian Beverly Hills on Sunday night, the first time the annual party has been held in the United States.

“This year, we will be awarding Film and ‘Heroes’ TV star Haitian-born Jimmy Jean-Louis the Global Humanitarian Award for his commitment to rescuing Haiti, by consistently going to his native island with volunteers and building schools,” said Gina de Franco, International Luxury Media CEO and executive co-producer of the “Kiss The Stars” gala prior to the event. “Jimmy’s dedication in helping reconstruct the education facilities in Haiti has been an ongoing one through his non-profit organization Hollywood Unites For Haiti. When the cameras left, Jimmy continued making pilgrimages all year long; by hand, brick by brick he has built new schools which will have a long term effect on the future of Haiti.”

Wyclef Jean To Perform At The Truth For Haiti

Wyclef Jean will perform at a special charity event to help the people of Haiti tomorrow, December 16.

While Haitians are still facing darkness and despair almost a year after the tragic earthquake that rocked Haiti, their courage and vibrancy continue to shine and inspire. THE TRUTH exhibition is Urban Zen’s celebration of Haiti’s resilient spirit, showcasing a dynamic country bursting with life. The Premier Exhibition and Auction will raise funds to give “Gifts of Love” packages to the Haitian people this holiday season and into the New Year. These packages will include vital supplies: shoes, solar flashlights and whistles to offset night attacks and rapes on women living in the Haitian camps. Cholera relief supplies will also be added as a critical component in these “Gifts of Love.”

Fashion icon and Urban Zen founder Donna Karan & music mogul Andre Harrell will host the launch of THE TRUTH at the Urban Zen Center, 711 Greenwich Street, New York, tomorrow night. Human rights activist Kerry Kennedy will be Master of Ceremonies, renowned fashion photographer Marc Baptiste is the Exhibition’s Curator, and Christie’s Lydia Fenet is the evening’s Auctioneer. The Premier Reception will also feature musical performances from Grammy Award-winning artist Wyclef Jean and special guests. Plus, a LIVE three-hour Twitter party hosted by Kim Kardashian will also take place.

Stars Celebrate A Time For Peace

Time For Peace – the humanitarian film and music awards – was held in Paris on Friday, with Sting winning an accolade for best music, and Jimmy Jean-Louis attending.

The Time for Peace Film & Music Awards launched in New York in 1994 by Marion Einbeck and Robert Einbeck, is a response to the need for popularizing films and music recognized for their artistic quality that further the ideals of humanist values such as tolerance, better understanding between people, respect for differences, and human solidarity.

The award has previously been presented to filmmakers such as Steven Spielberg for Schindler’s List and later Amistad, Michael Radford for Il Postino, Scott Hicks for Shine, Caroline Link for Jenseits der Stille (Beyond Silence), Jan Sverak for Kolya, actor Robin Williams for his performance as Sean McGuire in Good Will Hunting, and last year to Edward Zwick for Blood Diamond; in music the award has gone to artists such as Stevie Wonder for Conversation Peace, Jewel for her songs Pieces of You and A Night Without Amor, Charles Trenet for his lifetime achievement, and in 2007 to Charles Aznavour for Colore Ma Vie, to mention only a few.

Heroes actor Jimmy Jean-Louis joined Danny Glover in Washington DC last week for a special event to benefit victims of the Haitian earthquake.

To Haiti With Love was held at the W Hotel on Sunday, March 21, to benefit two charities who are working in Haiti: Hollywood Unites For Haiti and the Children and Families Global Development Fund.

“Even though many of the cameras have left, the needs still exist,” said Harry Black, vice president of Global Commerce Solutions, who presented the event. “We are proud to host this event with our special guests to do our part to assure that the people of Haiti continue to receive the support they need to rebuild over the long term.”

Ben Stiller Joins Artists For Peace And Justice Board Of Directors

Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) has announced that it will merge with Ben Stiller’s Haitian school initiative (HSI).

The two organizations, both of whom were committed to improving living conditions in impoverished Haiti prior to the devastating earthquake, will combine their shared passion in helping build essential schools for the children of Haiti. Together they have engaged Global Philanthropy Group (GPG) to help develop and manage their philanthropic efforts. In partnership with an interim Country Director in Port-au-Prince, GPG will coordinate the day-to-day efforts of APJ.

“Ben Stiller understands the important role of schools in the lives of Haitian children. Together we share a mutual passion and determination to be as effective as quickly as possible,” says Paul Haggis, founder of Artists for Peace and Justice. “For the children of Haiti, schools provide so much more than education. They provide their only hot meals, their only clean drinking water and medical attention. These are critical elements for children, especially in a time of crisis.”

Artists for Peace and Justice – the Haitian earthquake charity supported by a host of stars – has partnered with popular online auction site charitybuzz.com for a special celebrity awards-themed auction that launched on February 24.

The auction will feature exclusive one-of-a kind items donated by internationally known artists. One hundred percent of the funds raised will be directed to the initiatives of APJ, a charitable organization founded by award winning writer/director Paul Haggis and friends that is committed to improving the lives of children in the impoverished and devastated nation of Haiti. Heroes star Jimmy Jean-Louis will lead a charity motorbike ride in LA for charity on Saturday, February 27.

The actor will ride a motorbike for the very first time alongside Brian McKnight, James Kyson-Lee (“Heroes”), Gilles Marini (“Dancing with the Stars”), Lou Pizarro & Operation Repo Team, Olden Polynice (Former LA Clipper), Jaime Gomez (“Nash Bridges, Training Day”), Omarosa (“The Apprentice”) and many others at the event to raise money for Haiti.

Natalie Portman Supports Hungry In America

Natalie Portman was out and about in New York on Sunday night to host a special charity event to kick off the Hungry In America Project.

Held at the Colicchio & Sons Restaurant, and hosted by The Feed Foundation, the event launched a new documentary titled Hungry In America, directed by Lori Silverbush and Kristi Jacobson. The film addresses the fact that one in four children in the US lives on the brink of hunger.

The event was attended by famous faces such as Jake Gyllenhaal, and boasted a host committee that included Ben Affleck, Marcia Cross, Samantha Harris, Jimmy Jean-Louis, Ali Larter, Katherine McPhee, Julianne Moore, Alison Sweeney and many others. Catering was via Tom Colicchio.

Haiti had been a country already in crisis with little clean drinking water, food, adequate housing or medical help. Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) has been working together with Father Rick Frechette in the slums of Port au Prince since early 2009 to raise funds to create sustainable support. Actor Hakeem Kae-Kazim (The Fourth Kind, Wolverine) joined forces with Heroes actor Jimmy Jean-Louis in Hollywood on January 28 to hold a benefit event to raise money for Haiti through Jimmy’s foundation Hollywood Unites For Haiti.

The event was held at the new Cuban bar La Descarga in Hollywood and funds as well as awareness was raised for HUFH. Celebs and friends turned out in full to enjoy the evening, bid on the silent auction and dance to Caribbean sounds. The cause of the evening was not forgotten as Jimmy gave a heartfelt speech about the awful disaster that has happened to his people.

NBA Legend, entrepreneur and philanthropist Earvin “Magic” Johnson received the 3rd annual USA TODAY Hollywood Hero Award presented by USA TODAY President and Publisher Craig A. Moon. A long-time humanitarian and social advocate, Johnson was honored for his work in entertainment, underserved communities and the founding of the Magic Johnson Foundation.

“He’s the perfect Hollywood Hero,” said USA TODAY president and publisher Craig Moon, “the award is about someone who gives more than just their name or money. Magic is a man who gives his time.”

The charity Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA) held its annual concert and auctions on Thursday November, 15, 2007 at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles. The “Shaking the Blues” benefit supports ANSA’s work fighting HIV/AIDS in the U.S. and Africa, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Treatment Action Campaign, a grassroots organization at the forefront of South Africa’s fight against AIDS.
