Stars Join Elephant Project Auction For Alzheimer's

A host of celebrities have signed “Elephant Cards” for the latest Elephant Project auction to benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

Building on the idea that elephants never forget, the special photo cards have been signed by stars such as Ashley Tisdale, Miranda Cosgrove, Chace Crawford, Kristin Chenoweth, Stockard Channing, Carrie Fisher, Brandon Flowers, Jon Hamm and Jennifer Westfeldt, Jane Fonda, Nelly Furtado, Jonny Lee Miller, Sienna Miller, Lauren Ambrose, Geoffrey Rush, Susan Sarandon, Kathy Griffin, Sarah Silverman, Jennifer Garner, Anne Hathaway, Lady Gaga, Gerard Butler and many more.

Created in 2006 by 18-year old David Niederhoffer after his grandfather passed away from Alzheimer’s disease, the Elephant Project aims to raise awareness and funds for the Alzheimer’s Association, and to get teenagers more active in community service.

“There is a phrase that says ‘Elephants never forget’,” said Niederhoffer. “Alzheimer’s disease is a form of dementia… As I live relatively close to New York City, I wait outside of Broadway theaters and other events to meet each celebrity. After explaining to them what I am doing, I ask each celebrity to sign a business card that was custom made for this project. I also ask the celebrities to pose with either Trumpet the Elephant beanie baby or Peanut the Elephant beanie baby. All the pictures are printed out and auctioned off with the signed card. After I obtain a significant amount of signed cards/pictures, they are auctioned off on eBay. Each auction package also comes with an elephant beanie baby!”

BGC is a leading inter-dealer brokerage firm affiliated with Cantor Fitzgerald, the company that suffered the heaviest loss of life during the Twin Towers tragedy in New York on September 11th, 2001. BGC is proud to continue its legacy of fundraising on behalf of a wide range of charitable causes, with proceeds this year going to charities such as the Wounded Warrior Project, Boomer Esiason Foundation, The Children’s Institute, Mercy Center, The Valerie Fund, Childhelp USA, Garden of Dreams, Jubilee Center, Bone Marrow Foundation, Coast to Coast Against Cancer and many more.

Stars Decorate Bags For Charity Auction

A group of stars is to launch an online auction of hand-decorated messenger bags for charity.

Celebrities such as Chace Crawford, Debra Messing, Twilight’s Taylor Lautner, Samantha Harris, Sophia Bush, Tina Fey and many more have put their hearts into decorating the bags for Books For Kids, an organization that promotes literacy among all children with a special emphasis on low-income and at-risk preschool- aged children.

Books for Kids creates libraries, donates books, and partners with literacy programs to develop the critical early foundation and skills which young children need to be successful in life. Since its founding in 1986, the Books for Kids Foundation has provided children with more than 5 million books, created 56 libraries and provided literacy programs in many of these locations.

“As a big sister, I know how important it is to encourage reading,” said Kim Kardashian, who has also decorated a bag for the auction. “I was happy to decorate a bag to benefit Books for Kids knowing what a huge difference such a small effort can make.”

Chace Crawford Wants Your Jeans

Gossip Girl star Chace Crawford has recorded a PSA for a new initiative that is collecting jeans for homeless teens.

Teens For Jeans is a campaign being launched by launched by Aéropostale and Do Something that encourages young people to give back.

“One in three homeless people in America are under the age of 18,” said Crawford. “They’re just ordinary people living extraordinarily difficult lives. But you can do something! Clean out your closets and support Teens For Jeans.”

To take part in the campaign, just drop off your old jeans to any Aéropostale store between January 26th and February 22nd and they’ll make sure they get donated to a local homeless shelter or charity. And to say thanks, Aéropostale will give you an additional 25% off your next pair of jeans.

The campaign also ran last year and collected over 125,000 pairs of jeans. This year they hope to double that amount.
