Sopranos Star Rocks The Hard Rock For Charity

Sopranos star Vincent Pastore will host a special event for World Hunger Year (WHY) tonight, October 22.

WHY Guys Rock The Hard Rock will kick off the 2009 Hungerthon at the Hard Rock Cafe on Times Square with a huge number of bands and performers. From 6pm till midnight the stage will be quaking with bands such as Gary US Bonds, Willie Nile, Jackie Martling, La Dolce Vita with Michael Imperioli, Joe D’Urso and Stone Caravan, Tom Chapin, Jen Chapin, Big John Wallace, Chris Brown and Bookends, Kate Taylor, and The Bada Bing Boys with Vin Pastore himself … plus some surprise guests.

WHY was formed in 1975 by Bill Ayres, a radio talk-show host, and singer/songwriter Harry Chapin. Chapin’s daughter, Jen, who features in tonight’s concert, said that her father “saw hunger and poverty as an insult to America”. Many of his concerts were benefit performances for the 82 charities he was known to support, and the sales of all his concert merchandise were donated directly to WHY. At the time of his death in 1981, it was discovered that Chapin had donated almost all of his personal fortune to charity. Today, WHY is an international non-profit organization that connects grass roots charities to funding expertise and publicity.

Join Sopranos' Vincent Pastore At Huntington's Disease Event

Join Vincent Pastore – best known for the role of Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on The Sopranos – at a special event next week to benefit the Huntington’s Disease Society of America.

The fourth annual Celebrate The City cocktail reception will take place at the Museum of the City of New York on Friday, February 6, at 6:30pm. Attendees will be treated with unlimited signature martiNYs, live entertainment, full access to the museum’s current exhibits, and a swanky gift bag – along with a beautiful New York crowd, including Broadway and film star Meredith Patterson among others.

Considered Greater New York’s quintessential fundraiser for Huntington’s Disease, the Celebrate the City MartiNY Mixer brings together scenesters, scientists, doctors and divas thanks in part to its reputation as a swanky can’t-miss soiree. The music is always fantastic, the setting is simply stunning, and the food and drinks are included in the ticket price.

The Huntington’s Disease Society of America (HDSA) is the only national non-profit organization dedicated to finding a cure for Huntington’s Disease while providing support and services. Huntington’s Disease (HD) destroys one’s physical control and mental capacity over a period of 10-15 years. Currently, one in 10,000 Americans, including 5,000 children between the ages of six months and 18 years, have already been diagnosed with Huntington’s Disease. Presently, there is nothing that can be done to slow or stop the disease’s relentless course. There is no treatment and the cure remains unknown.

Stars Compete For Charity On Celebrity Apprentice

16 million people tuned into the first episode of Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice on January 3, a show in which celebrities work to win money for the charity of their choice. Critics may argue it is a publicity stunt to boost ratings, but when $250,000 is at stake to go to a good cause, all is fair in ratings and charity.

The show marks the 7th series of reality television show The Apprentice, and features a return to the original format of a male team versus a female team. The men’s team named themselves Hydra, and the women have chosen the name Empresario.

Every week, the money earned on a project goes to the team leader’s charity. In the first episode, actor Stephen Baldwin headed the winning team, and the breast cancer charity named for his mother – the Carol M. Baldwin Cancer Research Fund – was the first charity to reap the benefits of male star power. Baldwin proudly presented a check in excess on $69,000 to the charity. His celebrity teammates include KISS bass player Gene Simmons, Heavyweight Boxing Champion Lennox Lewis, country singer Trace Adkins, America/Britain’s Got Talent judge Piers Morgan, Ultimate Fighting Champion Tito Ortiz, and Sopranos star Vincent Pastore.

The female celebrities have lost two challenges and two teammates – former Playboy Playmate Tiffany Fallon and Olympic Gold Medalist Nadia Comanechi. The remaining competitors include actress Marilu Henner, former supermodel Carol Alt, Olympic Gold medalist Jennie Lynch, Elemundo executive Nely Galan, and infamous veteran Apprentice star Omarosa.
