Elton John To Host Annual Oscar Viewing Party For Charity

The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) will celebrate its 20th Annual Academy Awards Viewing Party on February 26 at the newly re-designed West Hollywood Park in Los Angeles.

Sir Elton John and David Furnish will host the gala event sponsored by Chopard, Neuro and Wells Fargo. This year celebrity chef Cat Cora will prepare a special menu to be served to guests seated to watch a live telecast of the 84th Academy Awards. Following dinner, Grammy nominated Foster the People will take the stage to perform.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party is the most highly visible and successful fund-raising event in Hollywood on Oscar night. Over the past 20 years, this annual event has raised millions of dollars thanks to the generosity of the Foundation’s supporters. The money raised is used to increase EJAF’s investments in its grant-making initiatives, which support HIV prevention and treatment programs, stigma reduction efforts, and direct services to persons living with HIV/AIDS, especially marginalized populations with special needs.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) announced today that the 19th annual Elton John AIDS Foundation Academy Awards Viewing Party hosted by Sir Elton John and David Furnish will take place on Sunday, February 27, at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.

Sir Elton stated, “I am tremendously excited to announce that Best New Artist Grammy nominee Florence + The Machine has accepted my personal invitation to perform for guests attending this year’s gala event.”

Tyler Perry Receives the NAACP Chairman Award

Successful filmmaker Tyler Perry will be awarded the Chairman’s Award at the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Awards.

Chosen by NAACP Board Chairman Julian Bond, the Chairman Award is bestowed in recognition of special achievement and phenomenal public service. Past award recipients include: Bono, U.S. President Barack Obama, Aretha Franklin, The Dave Matthews Band, Aaron McGruder and Janet Jackson.

Tyler Perry’s public service record grows every day. Recently, the actor donated $110,000 and a brand new 15-passenger van to the Atlanta-based homeless shelter Covenant House. In 2009, Perry celebrated the centennial anniversary of the NAACP by donating $1,000,000 to the civil rights organization. John Mayer And Tyler Perry Give Big To Help Haiti

John Mayer has given a double shot of charity to help survivors of the Haiti earthquake.

The singer has allowed the Red Cross to use his song The Heart of Life – as performed Larry King’s Haiti: How You Can Help TV special – in a new PSA for the charity’s relief efforts. And if that isn’t enough, he has also given the Red Cross a donation of $500,000.

The singer joins movie mogul Tyler Perry in recent donations – Perry recently donated $1 million to relief efforts.

The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) Image Awards announced it’s nominees on Wednesday, January 4, in Beverly Hills.

The foreign film category has some particularly strong nominations in regards to social relevance. Among the nominees annouced by comedienne and writer Wanda Sykes were Sin Nombre, Skin, and The Stoning of Soraya M. Also in the best film category, the critical darling Precious garnered the most nominations overall.

Tyler Perry Donates To Homeless Shelter

Actor and director Tyler Perry has donated to a shelter for homeless youth in Atlanta.

Perry made a donation of $100,000 to Covenant House in Georgia to aid in renovation costs and also handed over a new 15-seat van to the organization.

“God bless Mr. Perry for this incredible gift to our kids,” said Covenant House president Kevin Ryan. “The van will be used to rescue young people from the hopelessness of the street. His generous donation will provide immediate help to kids in crisis as well as the long-term support that will transform their lives.”
