Celebrities Play Poker For Charity In Beverly Hills

The stars of philanthropy and entertainment helped raise money for The Richard Merkin Middle School, Alliance for College Ready Schools, and the United Friends of Children at the third annual celebrity charity Texas Hold’em poker tournament event at the Beverly Hills Hotel last week.

These organizations are dedicated to improving education and giving children an opportunity to attend universities.

“I think the future of our country is education,” said Dr. Richard Merkin, President and CEO, Heritage Provider Network. “If we don’t provide education to our youth, we have a very limited future. I’m dedicated to ensuring these opportunities to as many young people as I can. We hope to raise over $1 million dollars tonight and I’m very pleased we will be able to help our youth.”

Maroon 5’s Adam Levine isn’t the only one posing nude to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer in Cosmopolitan UK’s new photo spread.

The singer got his gear off for the magazine feature this month, and has been joined by three members of the English cricket team – James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Alastair Cook. The stars are all appearing without clothes in the magazine for Everyman, a British charity that aims to stamp out male cancer.

James Bond And Friends Go Red For Heart Health

Former James Bond actor Sir Roger Moore has joined with a host of other British celebrities to support the British Heart Foundation’s National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 26.

“Red for Heart is a brilliant way to raise money for the nation’s heart charity – do your bit this February by going red,” said the veteran actor.

The star is joined by Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Gemma Atkinson, Jacqueline Wilson, Emma Thompson and many others for the campaign, which aims to raise awareness of heart disease in Britain.

British actor Vinnie Jones will reportedly donate some of his Celebrity Big Brother earnings to charity.

The actor’s 18-year-old son, Aaron, is set to head to Afghanistan as a soldier, and Jones is said to be donating a percentage of his earnings from the reality show to Help for Heroes.

“Aaron’s been in the army for two years now,” said Jones. “But him going to Afghanistan is one of those things you put to the back of your mind.”

Without A Trace star Anthony LaPaglia was the mastermind behind a celebrity soccer match held last week to raise money for victims of the horrific Australian bush fires.

Held at the Pacific Palisades in Los Angeles, the match attracted celebrity players such as House star Jesse Spencer, Simon Baker, Stephen Moyer, Vinnie Jones, Gracie Otto, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, Melbourne rock star Toby Rand, Love My Way star Damon Herriman and The Bachelor reality television show host Chris Harrison.

“Anthony rang me and said we’ve got to raise some money for these people and I said sure, I’ll see you there,” said Vinnie Jones. “The fires were so heart-wrenching. This was the least we could do get people involved and raise awareness.”

Beckham To Play Charity Soccer Match

Soccer star David Beckham is to play in a charity match to benefit those affected by the devastating wildfires currently causing havoc in Southern California.

November 4 will see Beckham’s Los Angeles Galaxy team, which he joined in July, take on a celebrity team – known as Hollywood United – with profits going to the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army.

“Everyone’s expected to play, including David,” said Galaxy General Manager, Alexi Lalas. “This is a great opportunity for our organization to do something positive for our area, our home, and for our friends and neighbors who have been impacted by these incredibly devastating wildfires.”
