Michelle Wie brings charity to golf tour

Teenage golfing sensation Michelle Wie has donated $300,000 to an endowment at two Korean hospitals that will help provide medical care to poor children.

The Hawaiian-born golfer made the donation a week before travelling to Korea for the Asian Tour’s SK Telecom Open, and was reportedly looking forward to meeting children at the Yonsei University Severance Hospital and Korea University Medical Center. Wie’s parents were born in Korea, and her uncle-in-law – a pathology professor at the Yonsei hospital – helped to arrange the donation.

With a big heart to match her 6’1" (1.86m) stature, Wie is already establishing a charitable background; after turning professional in October 2005 she gave $500,000 to the Hurrican Katrina relief fund.
