Roger Waters Supports Amnesty International On The Wall Live Tour

Amnesty International has announced that Roger Waters is supporting the organization’s campaigning on the Middle East and North Africa on his forthcoming ‘The Wall Live’ tour.

“It’s very important to me to have Amnesty along on this tour talking about the dramatic events in the Middle East and North Africa,” said the Pink Floyd legend. “In some small way, I want to ensure that people who come to The Wall Live take away a sense that human rights matter and barriers between people and their rights need to be torn down.”

Stars Remember Dan Wheldon With Charity Auction

On October 16, 2011, motor racing lost one of its favorite sons when Dan Wheldon was involved in a fatal crash. Now a bunch of celebrities and racing legends have come together for a special charity auction to raise money for the Dan Wheldon Family Trust Fund.

Among the items going under the hammer are a Pink Floyd commemorative disc and drum sticks signed by Nick Mason, a guitar signed by 3 Doors Down, a drivers fire suit signed by Dale Earnhardt, Jr., a helmet worn and signed by Juan Pablo Montoya, a signed stock car model from Danica Patrick and more.

Pink Floyd Reunites For Celebrity Charity Auction

Following the band’s one off reunion in London in May, members of Pink Floyd have signed a guitar to be auctioned for charity.

Surviving band members David Gilmour, Roger Waters and Nick Mason – who made a rare appearance together during a performance of The Wall in London on May 12 – have signed a specially painted guitar to raise money for Crisis.

David Gilmour Helps Pay Psychiatry Bills For Gary McKinnon

Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour and his wife, author Polly Samson, are paying psychiatry bills for computer hacker Gary McKinnon.

McKinnon suffers from Asperger’s Syndrome, and had all funding for assistance cut last month as a result of government cutbacks. He is currently fighting extradition to the US, where he would be jailed for hacking into NASA and Pentagon computers in 2001 to find information about UFOs.

“When I heard about the funding for Gary’s psychiatrist suddenly being refused I was incredibly worried,” Gary’s mother told Britian’s Sunday Express. “What will happen to other people with psychiatric problems if their funding is cut off? David and his wife Polly and Polly’s brother Joe are really good people. They never publicise the good things they do behind the scenes. They just do it and we’re so grateful for that.”

A host of some of rock music’s legendary guitarists and singers have signed a special guitar for a celebrity charity auction later this month in London.

Queen’s Brian May and Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour have added their autographs to those of Jimmy Page, Keith Richards, Roger Daltrey, Paul Weller, Eric Clapton and Gary Moore on the PUP AID Epiphone Casino Guitar donated by Liam Gallagher, which will go under the hammer at Bonham’s auction house on December 15.

Pink Floyd May Reunite For Charity

Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason has announced that the iconic British band could reunite for charity.

The group, who last performed at the Live 8 concert in 2005, have been inactive for a number of years – but Mason says the right cause could prompt them to put aside their differences.

“I think all of us would like the idea of repeating the Live 8 concept… something that’s not necessarily for us, but do something for the right reasons and enjoy doing it,” he said. “I think it would be a very nice way for a band to gently move towards retirement, by doing shows absolutely for charity rather than for more income.”

A star-studded line-up hit the stage in Oxfordshire, UK, on Saturday to raise money for Palestinian children.

The concert – which benefited the HOPING Foundation – saw performances by Tom Jones, Nick Cave (joined by Kate Moss on tambourine), and a reuniting of Pink Floyd legends David Gilmour and Roger Waters.

The Pink Floyd reunion was a highlight for many, and marked the first time the rockers have played together since the Live 8 concert in Hyde Park five years ago. And as a special treat for Floyd fans, the duo started their set with a rendition of Phil Specktor’s To Know Him Is To Love Him, a regular feature of Pink Floyd sound checks for many years that is rarely heard by the public.

The Nordoff Robbins annual star-studded 02 Silver Clef Awards is set to rock The Hilton, Park Lane in London as multi-platinum, multi award-winning Devon rock act Muse will be awarded the coveted 02 Silver Clef Award.

This year’s 35th infamous awards luncheon held to raise money for Nordoff Robbins will be hosted by British music mogul Sharon Osbourne. Led Zeppelin legend Robert Plant will meet and greet fans at a special gig to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

On 25th February Cancer Research UK’s Sound & Vision event will take place at the iconic Abbey Road Studios, celebrating rock, pop, the people who make it and the images it inspires. The event will feature champagne and canapés, access to the recording studios where The Beatles recorded, a stunning exhibition and auction of images featuring iconic musicians by famous photographers, the opportunity to purchase a piece of music history in a live auction, live performances, and the chance to rub shoulders with celebrity guests.

Plant will take to the stage with American singer-songwriter Beth Nielsen Chapman and the London Oriana Choir. Rockers Beat For Peace In Darfur

Joining the efforts to prevent any more bloodshed in Sudan, drummers from rock bands including Pink Floyd, Radiohead and Snow Patrol are taking part in the Beat For Peace campaign created by Faithless drummer Jamie Catto.

The Beat for Peace campaign is a film which calls for an end to conflict in the African country after millions died in the civil war which ended in 2005. The documentary, which is part of the wider Sudan365 campaign, features the musicians alongside other artists from Sudan, Australia and Japan.

“I wanted to be involved in this project because I think music is such a powerful way of bringing people together. Of course, I’m biased in thinking that what’s underpinning it all is always the beat – always drummers,’” said Radiohead’s Phil Selway, “Hopefully this film will show that together people can make a huge noise and through this film I hope people’s focus will be brought back to what is happening in the Sudan over this very important next year.”

Roger Waters Lends Voice To Wall Film

Former Pink Floyd rocker Roger Waters has lent his voice to a new short film which denounces Israel’s controversial barrier separating Israel from the West Bank.

The 15 minute film – called ‘Walled Horizons’ – made its debut at a United Nations function on the 19th August to honor the 5th anniversary of the International Court of Justice’s opinion that the barrier’s route through the occupied West Bank is illegal.

Roger Waters Wants The Wall To Come Down

Former Pink Floyd front man Roger Waters has spoken out against the controversial fence surrounding Israel’s West Bank.

The singer and guitarist – who last performed in Israel in 2006 – is disappointed by progress in the region since his last visit, and has offered to hold another concert in the area if the fence is taken down.

“It’s actually very, pretty depressing, coming back here three years later and seeing that the political situation has changed very little – there are more settlements, there has been more grabbing of land,” he said during a visit to the Ayda Refugee Camp yesterday, June 2. “This is a bad thing. This is wrong. This is not helping anybody, this thing. If they take this thing down, I would be delighted to come and do a concert here. In fact, I would insist on it.”

Legendary Pink Floyd front man David Gilmour is to headline a “hidden gig” in London this month to raise money for charity.

The concert is part of a series of gigs raising money for homeless charity Crisis, with bands such as Hot Chip playing concerts with a difference – the details of the gigs are withheld until the last minute to draw similarities to the situation faced by many homeless people on a daily basis regarding accommodation.

A founding member of Pink Floyd, Syd Barrett died of pancreatic cancer in 2006 after leading a life full of battles against mental illness, diabetes, and stomach ulcers. The Syd Barrett Trust was set up in 2008 by Syd’s sister, Rosemary Breen, with the support of Escape Artists, a charity with its roots in Cambridge that has been working in the mental health sector since 2000. The Trust exists to raise funds for arts projects in the mental health sector; extending to other individuals the enjoyment and benefits that Syd found in the arts.
