Boyzone’s Keith Duffy is encouraging his fans in Ireland to get active for autism.

The singer and actor is raising awareness of the Offaly GAA Tullamore Summer 10K run, which will take place on August 13. Proceeds from the fun run will go to Irish Autism Action, of which Keith is patron.

Boyzone singer Keith Duffy cycled 320km through the Alps in Europe last weekend to help an autism charity close to his heart.

Duffy was raising money for Irish Autism Action, a charity of which he is patron, to help raise the quality of life of individuals and their families affected by autism. He has been involved with autism charities since his daughter was diagnosed with it – “As the parent of a child with autism, I know what a difference the right support can make” – and has competed in the London Marathon to raise awareness of autism.

It took Duffy three days to complete the cycle ride, which included a 28km climb.

Stars To Attend Fashion And Compassion Celebrity Charity Event

Boyzone’s Keith Duffy is one of a number of celebrities expected to attend a very special charity fundraiser in the UK next week.

Fashion and Compassion is a fantastic event to be held in Wigan, Greater Manchester, on Thursday November 18. The fabulous evening of fashion and performances will benefit local children’s charity Jacob’s Unique Memory Pot (JUMP), a Warrington-based charity that provides memorable packages and experiences for children with life-limiting health conditions.

Joining Keith Duffy (who is as yet unconfirmed) at the event will be Kerry Katona, Gail Porter, The Holloways, as well as famous faces from Emerdale, Coronation Street, Big Brother and more. Peter André has also been invited, but is still to confirm. Former Manchester City player Nicky Summerbee will host a special auction during the evening.

Against Breast Cancer served up a fitting close to London Fashion Week – blending designer fashion with rock n’ roll and a very English tea at the home of Bee Gee Robin Gibb at the charity’s ‘Splash of Pink’ Fashion Show & Couture Tea.

Staged at their Oxfordshire home on Saturday 25th September, the Bee Gee and his wife – a Patron of Against Breast Cancer – opened their doors to 400 guests. The designer Fashion Show & Couture Tea was topped off with a live performance by Robin and his band supported by Natasha Hamilton and Elan Lee.

In aid of Against Breast Cancer and marking the start of breast cancer awareness month in October, the Splash of Pink Fashion Show will help the charity reach its annual goal of £1m to fund its valuable research into breast cancer. A new blood test is being developed by the charity’s researchers to detect the secondary spread of breast cancer and they are working towards finding a vaccine.

Boyzone stars Ronan Keating and Keith Duffy laced up their football shoes in the weekend to take part in a charity soccer game at Manchester United’s Old Trafford.

The game – which featured United players such as Dwight Yorke and Jaap Stam, as well as stars such as Tinchy Stryder, Ricky Whittle and Olly Murs – was part of the United Relief Live: The Big Red Day Out event in aid of Sport Relief and the Manchester United Foundation.

With performances by Tinchy Stryder, The Saturdays and Tony Christie, the game attracted over 30,000 people.

Fans Remember Boyzone Star By Giving To Charity

Fans of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, who died last week, have donated over $15,000 to a British children’s charity in his memory.

 Gately was a Goodwill Ambassador for Caudwell Children, a charity that focuses on donations to special children for medical treatment, therapy, specialized equipment, and dying wish holidays. Gately’s husband Andrew Cowles had requested that in lieu of flowers, fans could donate to his favourite charity.  

“It’s an amazing gesture for the charity and it sums up Stephen – he always thought of others first,” said charity spokesperson Trudi Beswick. “We’re already up to an amazing amount and hopefully we can buy wheelchairs and equipment and therapy for kids. It’ll be a lovely memory for everybody to remember him by. He was a fantastic goodwill ambassador for us. We really want to give feedback to everyone – to everyone that’s supported us, to Andrew, the family and everyone in Boyzone and thank them by showing them the children we’ve helped in a couple of months time.”

Charity Mourns Death Of Boyzone Singer

The music and charity worlds are mourning the death of Boyzone singer Stephen Gately, who passed away on the Spanish island of Majorca on Saturday, October 10.

The singer was an ambassador of Missing People, a charity that provides support for missing children, vulnerable adults and families left in limbo.

“Stephen Gately was a compassionate man who was committed to using his popularity with young people to raise awareness of Missing People’s Runaway Helpline, and supporting families with missing loved ones,” the charity said in a release. "His support of the charity directly impacted many vulnerable adults, missing children and families across the UK. It is a very sad day for all those whose lives Stephen touched.

Celebrities Run For Charity In London Marathon

Tens of thousands of people pulled on their running shoes and sweated their way through the annual London marathon yesterday, including a number of celebrities who were competing for charity.

Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay was one of many who lined up at the start for his 10th time at the event. He ran once again for the Scottish Spina Bifida Association, an organization that supports, listens to and helps children, adults and families with spina bifida, hydrocephalus and related conditions.

“It’s time for a celebration,” he said. “We’re fighting a global credit crunch, and in terms of coming out and having fun, it costs nothing to come and watch.”

Boyzone Singer Speaks Out About Autism

Irish singer Keith Duffy from Boyzone is to run the London Marathon this year to raise money for the National Autistic Society (NAS) and Special Provision for the Education of Autistic Children (SPEAC).

“I’m really excited to be running for the NAS,” said the actor and singer, whose daughter, Mia, has the condition. “As the parent of a child with autism, I know what a difference the right support can make. I was fortunate enough to be in a position to get Mia the support she needed, but many other families aren’t so lucky.”

Duffy spoke to the BBC about his experiences in raising his daughter as part of the Cause Celeb series, in which stars talk about issues close to their heart.
