Shay Mitchell To Attend Charity Skydive Event

The Somaly Mam Foundation will host a very special charity event in Santa Barbara this weekend that will see participants skydive from 18,000 feet to raise $18,000 towards the eradication of slavery.

18FOR18, the first annual Sky’s The Limit event for SMF, will be hosted by actress Serinda Swan, and also feature Pretty Little Liars’ Shay Mitchell. Other celebrity supporters/sponsors include Russell Simmons, Wilmer Valderrama, True Blood’s Mehcad Brooks, Avatar’s Laz Alonso and many more.

Serinda Swan recently went to Cambodia and visited one of the Somaly Mam rescue shelters as well as the Voices for Change headquarters. After hearing the stories, and seeing what these women and children face everyday, she knew that there was something she could do, so 18FOR18 was born.

Kirk Douglas will once again lead a host of celebrities as they feed the homeless at the Los Angeles Mission this Thanksgiving.

The economic downturn is evident at the Los Angeles Mission. More men, women and children are coming for assistance – looking for assistance like shelter, clothing and meals. That makes the Thanksgiving event even more necessary and special for people facing the toughest time of their lives.

For the past six years Kirk Douglas and his wife Anne, namesake of the Anne Douglas Center for Women at the Los Angeles Mission, have hosted the Mission’s Thanksgiving dinner. Volunteers from TV, radio and movies, political leaders and others will bring Thanksgiving a day early to thousands of homeless men, women and children. Los Angeles Christian Health Centers will provide foot care and exams at the event.

Rosario Dawson has brought together stars such as Eva Longoria, Wilmer Valderrama, Jessica Alba, Common, Amy Smart and Carla Gugino for a new PSA campaign to fight Arizona’s new immigration laws.

Dawson has launched the United We Win campaign through Voto Latino, an organization she co-founded in 2004. The new law – called SB 1070 – allows police to question any individuals they suspect are illegal immigrants, and all legal immigrants are required to carry registration documents at all times.

“I haven’t made it a secret that I’m strongly opposed to the Arizona law and I’ve been pretty vocal about it,” says Eva. "It’s unfortunate that this immigration issue has been on the national agenda for the past three administrations.

Celebrities Take Pole Position For Charity

You will not have to be a car enthusiast, racing fan, petrol head, or even an average, ordinary sports fanatic to enjoy the celebrity specticle that will take place next weekend in downtown Long Beach. The peaceful silence of Southern California will be ripped asunder as engines are revved and a host of stars take to the track in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at the 34th annual Toyota Grand Prix.

A field of 18 is primed and ready to vie for the checkered flag in the world’s longest-running and most successful celebrity racing event. The 10-lap race will trace a 1.97-mile street circuit, and will raise money for Racing for Kids, a program that benefits children’s hospitals in Long Beach and Orange County. Toyota has generously pledged $5,000 to the charity in the name of each celebrity driver, and another $5,000 to the race winner’s charity of choice.
