Beatles legend Paul McCartney was honored as the 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year at a special event in Los Angeles on Friday, celebrating his exceptional artistic achievements as well as his philanthropic work.

The sold-out tribute to McCartney benefits MusiCares’ emergency financial assistance and addiction recovery programs. Proceeds from the annual Person of the Year tribute — now in its 22nd year — provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that members of the music community have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.

An impressive star-studded cast will come together to honor 2012 MusiCares Person of the Year honoree Paul McCartney during a sold-out gala on Feb. 10 in Los Angeles, two days prior to the 54th Annual GRAMMY Awards.

Grammy winner Natalie Cole, who was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C in 2008, will meet with leading patient advocates in Washington, D.C., and discuss the Tune In to Hep C national public health initiative, sponsored by Merck and the American Liver Foundation, at a National Press Club Speakers Luncheon, Wednesday, October 19.  

“There is a stigma around chronic hepatitis C because it’s associated with IV drug use. But it doesn’t matter how you got the virus, it matters what you do about it,” Natalie Cole said. “That’s why I’ve joined the Tune In to Hep C campaign to share my story and motivate people to take the next step by speaking to their doctor. Doing nothing is not an option.”

Natalie Cole Raises Awareness Of Hepatitis C

Natalie Cole is adding her voice to healthcare company Merck’s public health campaign, Tune In to Hep C, with the American Liver Foundation (ALF) and rock legend Gregg Allman.

The goal of the campaign is to raise awareness of chronic hepatitis C virus infection. Cole will join Allman onstage at a benefit concert featuring The Allman Brothers Band and other special guests in New York tonight, July 27, the eve of World Hepatitis Day.

This cause is personal to Cole, who was diagnosed with chronic hepatitis C during a routine blood test in 2008. It was then that she realized she’d been living with the virus for more than 25 years – nearly half of her life. Cole’s experience is not uncommon. In fact, chronic hepatitis C is often referred to as the silent disease because – for many people – it can be in the body for decades without any symptoms. Cole is joining the campaign to encourage others with chronic hepatitis C to put aside fear and stigma and take action.

Dionne Warwick Performs For Hunger Project In London

Dionne Warwick headlined a special concert in London yesterday, January 9, for World Hunger Day in the UK.

The legendary singer was joined by Natalie Cole and Elaine Paige to raise significant awareness of the very first World Hunger Day and the inspiring work of the Hunger Project to bring an end to hunger and poverty, as well as to raise funds for the charity’s work in 13 countries across Africa, South Asia and Latin America.

Natalie Cole Named As Charity Spokesperson

Grammy Award-winning singer Natalie Cole has become a national spokesperson for the United Kidney Research Organization (UKRO), a non-profit group which supports medical research into the prevention, treatment and elimination of the disease.

Cole’s role as spokesperson will include raising public awareness of the various forms of kidney disease along with supporting the non-profit organization’s fundraising efforts.

Natalie Cole, daughter of singer Nat “King” Cole, received a kidney transplant in May 2009 after almost ten months on kidney dialysis.

Twenty-five years ago, the iconic recording, “We Are The World” generated millions of dollars to help ease suffering in Africa. With a contemporary version of the song being released today to aid the victims of the earthquake in Haiti, Coca-Cola will be doing its part to support the cause.

Quincy Jones and Lionel Richie have revamped the song “We Are the World,” originally recorded 25 years ago. More than 75 big-name stars got together on February 2nd at Jim Henson Studios – where the song was originally recorded – to do it again. The song will benefit aid relief in Haiti.

The long list of celebrities includes Bono, Jason Mraz, Akon, Wyclef Jean, Usher, Pink, Céline Dion, Natalie Cole, the Jonas Brothers, Tony Bennett, Barbra Streisand, Lil Wayne and many, many more.

Fifteen first ladies from African nations have joined a host of celebrities in attending a two-day summit in Los Angeles on health, women’s issues and HIV/AIDS.

The conference – organized by US Doctors for Africa (USDFA) and the African Synergy Against AIDS and Suffering, a nonprofit organization formed by 22 first ladies from Africa – will feature appearances by Hillary Clinton, Maria Shriver (wife of California Gov. The Band From TV To Light Up Christmas Tree

The Band From TV will be appearing at the annual “Hollywood Christmas Tree Lighting at The Grove,” on Sunday, November 23.

The charity band made up of television stars – including Hugh Laurie, Greg Grunberg, Teri Hatcher, James Denton, Bob Guiney – recently released their first CD/DVD, Hoggin All The Covers. The band was started in 2006 to provide funding for several worthwhile charities – Save the Children, The Art of Elysium, the Child Abuse Prevention Program and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence – and to raise money through music to help those in need.

Grunberg had the idea to establish the band after being asked to get a few celebrities to play together at the House Of Blues for charity. The event sparked a great amount of interest, and has led to a number of gigs in the US which have, according to Hugh Laurie, “raised a gargantuan sum of money for charity.”

The singer’s Lil’ Kim Cares Foundation has announced that Lil’ Kim is teaming up with MusiCares to raise funds through a silent auction being held at the Grammy’s On The Hill ceremony. The ceremony will take place in Washington, DC on September 5, 2007 at the Willard Continental.

The Grammy’s On The Hill ceremony presents awards to outstanding individuals who have improved the environment for the creative community. Among the award recipients are performers Missy Elliott, Natalie Cole, Gloria Estefan, Vince Gill and Kelly Clarkson, senators Lamar Alexander, Hillary Clinton and John McCain, representative Mary Bono, and congressman John Conyers.
