Female Celebrities To Build For Empowerment

Female stars of the stage and screen will be out-and-about with power tools this weekend when they take part in Habitat For Humanity's first ever Women Empowerment Build.

From May 22-24, stars such as Kate Linder, Molly Burnett and Arianne Zucker of “Days of Our Lives” will join the charity and the Entertainment Industries Council, Inc in California to build homes for the needy. Joining them will be Hunter Tylo, Alley Mills and Kimberly Matula of “The Bold & the Beautiful”; Cassidy Freeman of “Smallville”; Vanessa A. Williams of “Soul Food” and “Lincoln Heights” and Holliston Coleman of “Medium”.

“Many of our families have women as heads of household,” said Habitat for Humanity San Fernando/Santa Clarita Valleys CEO Donna Deutchman. “We wanted to do more than just have a day where women build.We wanted to help our mothers and their daughters realize they too can be active agents of change to make a better community for themselves and their neighbors. The women coming to this event are at the top of their professions and want to encourage others by their example, and by sharing their success.”

Eva Longoria And Friends To Rally For Kids With Cancer

Eva Longoria will once again rev her engine for charity this year when she takes part in the Rally for Children With Cancer.

The Rally for Kids with Cancer is where celebrity navigators and drivers maneuver through seven unique pit stops throughout the Miami area earning points in their quest to raise funds to help Jackson Memorial Foundation support the work of International Kids Fund (IKF) and Holtz Children’s Hospital and provide hope that one day the end to cancer can be celebrated.

Joining Longoria at the event will be Adam Rodriguez (Actor, CSI: Miami), Eva La Rue (Actress, CSI: Miami), Gilles Marini (Actor, Sex and the City), Vivica Fox (Actress, Independence Day, Soul Food), Vanessa A. Williams (Actress, Imagine That), Bai Ling (Actress, Crank: High Voltage), Lennox Lewis (Former World Heavyweight Champion), Sofia Milos (Actress, CSI: Miami), Elsa Benitez (Super Model and Sports Illustrated Cover Girl), Tiny Lister (Actor, “Friday” series) and many more.

Vanessa Williams Supports A Soul Food Fundraiser For A Call To Men

On Sunday June 14th, independent filmmakers Stephen McClain and Tony Lloyd of HitchHiker Entertainment put together a Soul Food Cookout fundraiser for their independent films and decided to give a portion of their proceeds to A Call To Men after learning about the organization through Look To The Stars.

A Call To Men is an organization with hopes to end domestic violence against women by instructing men to have a new mindset about how they perceive women. Less than 24 hours before their event, they learned that Soul Food Actress and A Call to Men celebrity ambassador Vanessa Williams would join them for a plate of soul food in support of the organization.

The filmmakers shared with Williams their desire to do a series of fundraisers for their film festival run with a portion always going to charity. Given that their short film “I’m Sorry” centers around domestic violence, the A Call to Men organization seemed to be a perfect fit.

Vanessa Williams Supports An End To Violence Against Women

It was Angela Davis, political activist and University Professor, who once said that domestic violence against women could not end without enlisting the help and support of men in our society.

Although there are many organizations, a range of legal remedies, a network of shelters, crisis centers and other sites where survivors are able to find support, none of these efforts or initiatives are aimed at involving men to put an end to their own violence against women. None except A Call To Men, a leading national men’s organization focused on the man’s role in ending violence against women.

Emmy Award nominated actress Vanessa Williams – best known for her work on Showtime’s hit series Soul Food – co-hosted an event at the ArtPeace Gallery in Burbank, California for A Call To Men last week. Williams is a board member of this nonprofit whose mission is to galvanize a national movement of men (and women) dedicated to eradicating this prevalent problem.
